The Rachel/Mac/Janice/Mitch quadrangle was AW's best story of 1980. Also, I like how AW depicted the characters and families from various social classes. Ada always felt comfortable with other characters (and put them in their place when necessary, even with Iris). Also, Rachel could navigate these different social "worlds": she could be the first lady of Bay City as Mac's wife and still help Ada with the dishes.
God that theme just gives me chills -- it's so beautiful...... I love that opening scene with Ada. So simple, in the kitchen with every day clothes on eating a simple home meal. Today's shows would NEVER have any scene look so normal and genuine like this. That's what soaps have lost and made them so good. Today, everyone has to be dressed to the nines ALL the time, look 20 and hot. So stupid - so unrealistic - and actually boring as well. Ha!
@adelgado75 The man having lunch with Ada was Charlie Hobson (Clarice's father). Charlie was one of Ada's husbands. Rachel's father was Gerald Davis. He was on the show briefly some time before this. When Rachel's father was on it was during the Racel, Alice and Steve triangle days. I also believe he was on during the brief period Rachel was married to Ted Clark. If I remember correctly Ada and Gerald were divorced from the beginning of Ada's time on the show and Ada was married to Ernie Downs, then Gill McGowan, then Charlie.
especially the dramatic background music. but, this really was the last year AW had any success. the next year was so stupid with new crazy charaters, writers and crappy storylines. This is also when AW decided to end the family characters of AW. The frames, matthews and cory ruled the show till this time
The Halloways added NOTHING to the show. As much as I love Judith McConnell (Miranda), bringing her on as an Iris substitute didn't work. Besides, the wealthy were already well-represented with the Corys, Gwen Parrish, Cecile, etc. I love the earthiness Ada & Charlie and Larry & Clarice represented. I would have preferred the show retained Rose & Angie Perrini, Willis Frame, and Mike & Marianne Randolph instead of hauling out the Halloways.
I think they were trying to make Miranda the new Iris -- and Craig and crowd were her entourage. They should have given Judith McConnell more time to establish herself. I think she was doing a good job. But the entourage was just confusing and not well done.
I agree 100% Patrick . But even I'm not a young and restless fan . I have 2 admit that they did show one of the female characters who is no longer on the show actually cooking. But 4 some odd reason . The fans of that show at least some of them made a big stink about it. I mean people in real-life cook what's the big deal ??? They don't mind victor the bully who killed Colleen or summer his granddaughter another bully. But yet 4 some very odd reason a person who cooks is a criminal. I wonder if you can respond 2 my comment I think it would be interesting to read your take on all this. Anyway another world rocks.
Susan Keith is a great actress but when they started to take Cecile in a different direction, she wasn’t the right fit. Nancy Frangione IS Cecile. Susan was perfect as Shana on “Loving”- headstrong heroine type.
Pat (Beverly Penberthy) left the show in January 1982. In my opinion it hurt the show. I guess they felt they couldnt write for her after john was killed off.

No. Ada had several husbands over the course of the show. Charlie was husband number 4, I think. Ernie was number 2 (died), Gil was number 3 (died). I once read that Susan Keith enjoyed her role as Cecile on another world then her role as samantha on one life to live. As far as shana on loving I. Perferd her another world role way more then her loving role ironically her real life husband james had also appeared on another world back in 1989. I do wish that someone would post Susan when she was on one life to live so I can compare her one life charecter as samantha to her far more superior role as Cecile on another world. I hope that there is someone out there that can make it happen also is there is someone out there who can post tapes of when Victoria Wyndham was on guiding light as. Charlotte another classic soap so I can compare her role as charlotte to her iconic legendary role as rachel cory on another world. Can someone please make it happen. It's so awsome that Victoria once appeared on 2 superior soaps both guiding light. And. Another world. Both far more superior then that soap general hospital a soap that told millions of soap fans that it's ok for men to brutally and violently rape women so she can fall in love with you. As many mistakes that both another world and guiding light have made and there have been some I think that the fans of those shows I'm 1 of them. Should cut those shows some slack because compared to AW and GL. General hospital made the worst mistake ever by patraying rape as harmless. It's just soooooooooooo sad that it was both AW AND GL. That got cancelled yet that pro rape crap gets to stay on the air a show that also promotes gun violence every day. Yeah I'm talking to you general hospital you suck
