- Smoking a Nigerian Dwarf goat (young buckling) on the Oklahoma Joe smoker - it's a beautiful thing! We raise all of our own meat and it's a blessing to have the ability to eat our own homegrown food.

Cute baby goat videos make me want goats but THIS is how I sell my husband on it 😂
Thanks - they are definitely fun to have. And yes, show him the smoked goat...I think it might help!

Thank you so much!
So happy to see you watching our videos much love ❤️ ❤
The best way to cook it is underground no spices just add salt after it cooked
That's definitely something we would love to try someday.

Now we know where your knowledge of BBQ smoking comes from: Kansas City, the most serious BBQ town in the world!
Dag, tho, if you're missing the boat in your sauce game - where's the Kansas City *Arthur Bryant's BBQ Sauce, Gates BBQ Sauce, or Jack Stack BBQ Sauce ??* 😋👍🏼
Thank you - we love Arthur Bryant's and Gates and do use both sometimes. We're pretty rural, so just depends on what the local store has or what we have on hand. Arthur Bryant's is hard to beat though!
I like Stubb's BBQ sauce. It doesn't have any corn syrup and it tastes great, especially the spicy one.
Stubbs is good, we have tried that one before too.
Looking good guys. We like rays also.
thank you!
Super yummy! Peace, love and harmony from your new friend.
Thank you friend!❤
Quick question, are y'all at the IRR? If you don't know what that means, I assume you're not. Lol. Just wondering because I've owned property out there for a little over a year. Planning on starting a cabin build this winter and then putting in a garden. The ground is SOOO full of rocks, almost all rock. Lol.
Nope, don't know what IRR is haha! We live in the woods, southern MO Ozarks. That's awesome though, good luck on your cabin and garden, sounds like a fun journey. It's definitely all rocks here, we totally understand that! Build up your topsoil with compost every year and weed out the biggest rocks. You'll do just fine!
@@zionsgateranch it's the Illinois River Ranch. It's in the southern most part of the MO Ozarks. There's a small homestead there with a couple cows. Thought it might have been y'all. Thank you.
Oh ok, nope not us. :-)
I'm Nigerian and love your videos!! We eat this goat meat weekly
Thank you so much! We love eating it also.
Hi, nice to meet you! Thank you for watching our videos! We will try to make some more about goats again soon.
Is that an electric Dutch oven?
Yes, we use the Instant Pot dutch oven and it's electric.
When you put the meat in the dutch oven, did you add liquid? Anything you’d do differently next time around?
I honestly can't recall if we used broth or water, but yes, we did add some to the dutch oven. And next time, we would just smoke it for 3-4 hours to get that smoke penetrated through the meat and then finish it off in the dutch oven with some broth - just until it falls apart. That should definitely help keep it more moist and tender!
How much meat where you able to harvest, were you able to weight it?
We didn't weigh it, it was probably a 30lb goat. I should do that on the next one.
have your tried pygmy goat meat? If so how is that compared to Nigerian dwarf meat?
no, we haven't raised pygmy, but from what I've heard I would think Nigerian Dwarf is better. Can't say for certain though.
ND is a dairy goat and it's a boney goat. Pygmy are meat goats and they're a meaty goat.
Do bucks that have bred have taint like they say pigs can? I know this one hadn't bred just curious of those that have
Yes, bucks will have taint when they are breeding. We butchered a mean buck that was breeding one time, and the meat was not good. The dogs didn't mind it though..
@@zionsgateranch does the taint go away if you wether them later?
Good question - I've heard of people doing that successfully with pigs, so I would think goats would be the same, but we have never done it.
Why did you put him on the ice for two days
We do it to quickly cool the meat and to keep stored in a cold container - same concept we have always done with deer as well.
From what I've heard, rigor mortis will make meat tough and stringy, so it isn't good to eat freshly butchered meat.
Yes, I should have mentioned that too. That's the main reason for the length of time. Some people hang them in a cooler or fridge, we just use ice most of the time for smaller animals.

Any idea how old this goat was?
trying to recall, definitely under a year old, I think 6-8 month range.
