I took ZUPCO Train in Harare, Zimbabwe Africa Ep12.
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 окт 2024
- The railway transport is managed by a company called ZUPCO which is an abbreviation for Zimbabwe United Passenger Company.
It has 3 routes Tynwald route, Ruwa city route and Western Route.
Today I shall be taking you to the
the Western service from city center to Mufakoze. It leaves the Harare station at 5:15 am and arrives at Mufakoze by 6:10 am. The return journey leaves Mufakoze at 6:25am and arrives at Harare station, city center by 7:20am. A good time to get to work!
These passenger trains operates only at Peak hours to ease congestion on roads . That means they only operate in the morning and evening
One thing I must appreciate from my experience is the timeliness of the train. Also on your way from Mufakoze you will have a beautiful view of Harare as you approach the city.

Great video showing the resumption of commuter services, Now they need to redo the interior and repaint the whole fleet.
We have to understand that National Railway of Zimbabwe [NRZ] is one of the companies targeted by sanctions imposed by the West.
Bulawayo - Illegal sanctions have hit the National Railways of Zimbabwe hard as companies in the West are refusing to supply spares for its broken down equipment.
NRZ general manager Retired Air Commodore Mike Karakadzai said the company was also failing to open letters of credit with international financial institutions to access the much needed foreign currency. 2008
The pastor's words are as follows... " May God guide the train driver and our conductors, who handle any complications that may arise. Join us together so that we may become one family. When you come Lord Jesus, may we all not be found wanting. When you come to take us home to rest... On a train that will not come to a halt nor break down, for all eternity."
Thank you for translating. This is such a beautiful prayer.
It's so beautiful that this pastor is praying for safe train journey for everyone and not trying to convert passengers to his church or religion ❤

Exactly this is not acceptable.
I feel you. But don't be. At least this is yours. Not like the ones being done elsewhere in Africa, with Chinese loans and contractors, where the trains have Chinese flags flying inside them.
Never feel embarrassed of progress. I live in the U.S. my town doesn't even have a commuter rail system. So, who should really be embarrassed? Certainly not you. :-)
@@qutieqouture6846 you can't really say that. Chinese even win contracts and build stuff in America, it's all about investment and a return on that investment. In my country Kenya, they have built one but it is not for free, we are paying for it and I can't start comparing the Zim to Kenya's even the old railway that was built by the colonialists.

Zimbabweans should stop settling for mediocrity. These trains are old from the colonial period. Go on Twitter and see how the youth are calling out the government for not building new trains. Africa will never develop if we don’t hold our leaders accountable for looting funds.
Africans deserve better. If the rest of the world are riding clean new fast trains why shouldn’t africans pressure their government to do the same?
This reminds me of going back to my grandma rural home after it was neglected for almost 30 years. We had to remove overgrown weeds and shrubs to get to the dilapidated buildings left at the mercy of the weather for decades. National Railways of Zimbabwe, I hope your efforts in Zupco train will continue until we have that train to Chitungwiza which was supposed to be constructed from 1986 but is still on papers, that is If they still exist. Good start, I wish you great success because the people need this serious work desperately. It’s long overdue

@@AFRICANTIGRESS i once visited Tanzania. So i know a bit
3:08 that is really cheap compared to the scenery you get, it seems they used electric train with electricity poles on the tracks. Enjoying the contents from Zimbabwe, hongera
The railway line from Harare to Gweru was electrified in the early 1980s, paid for by the UK Thatcher government (development aid).
During the hyperinflation, scrap metal, especially copper, was easily sold for cash, and all of the copper wire in the catenary above the tracks from Harare to Gweru for conducting electricity to electric locomotives, was stolen, a little at a time.
.
A one way ticket, second class, from Bulwayo to Victoria Falls used to be about ZWD$18, in the 1980s, from memory. Victoria Falls to Livingstone was something like 85 cents.
The NRZ had about 600 locomotives, and Botswana had about say 5 locomotives, at Zimbabwe's independence (1980). Zimbabwe now has less than 100 locomotives left in working order, whereas Botswana now has about 45 locomotives.
.
Meanwhile, more recently, the PRC has built / upgraded a railway line in Kenya !
