This game has serious potential. If the devs stay focused and commit to a clear content roadmap, it could genuinely become one of the GOATs. It captures that sense of adventure Minecraft has always lacked. Terraria fans are diehard loyal, but Terraria 2 will probably never happen-the original's success casts too long a shadow. Hytale is honestly perfectly positioned to scratch that itch. All given if they play their cards right and actually push content that fills in the game.

Tried the game and it worked on a laptop that isn't necessarily designed for gaming and more for computer science college work. I'm impressed with the team. I have not found a single game-destroying flaw yet and this is supposed to be an early access. I really look forward to the modding community, this will make modded Minecraft in multiplayer 10 times easier than the typical way in which it has to be done.

From what I heared, Hytale is made in Java, and Java itself imposes a challenge since it’s not as optimizable as C++ or other backend languages. To see it run smoothly, as well with greater render distances is impressive.

The lag-spikes on Java when generating chunks are pretty costly compared to Hytale. It’s an old game, none of this should surprise you.

Man I'm so happy for this game is what I wanted for a while it may look like Minecraft but it plays more like terraria with goals and progression. I'm not a fan of the art style but is meh at worse. My biggest complain is people calling it a Minecraft killer instead of talking about what makes this game different. The combat and how evil some enemies are it reminds me of the enemies in bilewater in silk song.

Terraria was a masterpiece, Minecraft as well and Hytale has everything in it's favor to do the same. And reminder, Hytale is made by the people who own the biggest Minecraft server, there's clear inspiration but calling it a copy because it has blocks, you mine and is a sandbox sounds like a stretch since minecraft isn't a pioneer.

Hytale is far more similar (and will get even close to) a game like Valheim where the purpose of it is strong RPG mechanics (likely eventually a skill/talent tree and classes) and a large variety of enemies throughout the world and various biomes that pose a real threat to you. Minecraft's "difficulty" period is legit farming enough wood before the first night to make a small shack and dig down. Once you have a sword and even 1 piece of iron armor Minecraft stops being a game with realistic threats that can kill you and becomes a game where you drop 30,000 torches everywhere to prevent mob spawns around your base and farm for full diamond armor and set up an exp farm for enchants.

How is BOTW slop when Genshin relies heavily on in game transactions? I'm not saying Genshin is a bad game, I actually enjoy it quite a bit. But why can't just two games be good games even when game studios take inspiration from eachother? Like, the same way that just because Minecraft exists it doesn't make Hytale a worse game. I immediately thought of several concepts for a Minecraft series that also spans into hytale. I could make a Minecraft series where they play hightail on the computers, I could also make an ARG series because hytale will eventually have mods I could make the hytale world be just another dimension, i’m also thinking about making some mods to blend some of these concepts. I just never thought hightail would ever exist so that’s why I’m very excited.
It's crazy this build has been out there for like half a decade they started completely over. Imagine the amount of content updates we'd have by now...
People should put their phones down if their idea of fun is clowning on a game they know nothing about, specially when its a self funded indie game that released against all odds (and a promising one at that)
I miss the days when people said "This could be one of the next greats." Instead of writing something off as slop or a copy when they hardly understand it. In the toxic wasteland that was the live chat this stream, I saw chats from people who gave up without even giving it 20 seconds of attention at the beginning of the stream, and given that this game took 8 years, to develop, (a good portion of that time spent on getting fucked over by Riot games.) it's heartbreaking to see that the majority of people don't remember this game, and want to hate off principal because it's different from their comfort game. This is not to say that this game doesn't have problems like enemy balancing and glitches. What I'm saying is that positives like the gorgeous art style, fluid movement and animated and other massive quality of life features should never be glossed over in favor of hating because it's easier. I'm gonna remain steadfast and hope this game succeeds. Because it deserves too.
I agree but with that being said it does seem to just be Minecraft with graphics mod. It could of course end up being the new minecraft but I am not sure there is enough difference between this and Minecraft for it to happen.
Modders have been apart of it. Plenty of people in the MC modding community have spent the last few months building up mods and there's already a ton out as of launch day. This is a game that leans extremely heavily into the modded community so it's gonna be good.
Brand recognition. Biggest block game in the world are Minecraft and Tetris so people would immediately use that as reference to form a basic idea of what Hytale is.
@Dreamer218 im not saying Hytale cant be better but it wont reach minecraft massive 16 years of history and over 300 million copies sold. No GTA released to date has sold as much as Minecraft. But there's no denying that Minecraft has stagnated for audiences who want more. and yeah, Hytale will sell millions of copies, but it doesn't have to match Minecraft to be a success. If it manages to maintain a solid base of loyal players, it will already be a great victory. I really hope Hytale is successful. Simon and his team deserve a break after so much effort to revive the hype for the game after its cancellation and sorry the massive text, just wanted to say that

Dude, I LOVED SurvivalCraft! It was an explosion of content that pocket edition simply didn't have at the time, so I poured as many hours into that game as I did MCPE, and Terraria! I might have to play that again for nostalgia's sake, along with Hytale.

The way they handle tree felling is super smart. That way your world isn’t filled with floating bushes. I like that

Man I'm so happy for this game is what I wanted for a while it may look like Minecraft but it plays more like terraria with goals and progression.
I'm not a fan of the art style but is meh at worse.
My biggest complain is people calling it a Minecraft killer instead of talking about what makes this game different.

I don’t know man fps is such a large category. People say that because Minecraft was the first in a genre that didn’t exist. The concept of a block game is at least heavily inspired by Minecraft and its success. We have way better graphics and computers and people are still making block games … it’s not disingenuous at all to say it took massive inspiration from both games, idk why that has to be a bad thing
@davidhanft5927 I'm not sure if you'd know but minecraft was inspired by other block based games like infinifrag or infiniminer, i don't remember correctly, but that was the first block mining sandbox type game. Sure we got better graphics and whatever but considering how nowadays the actual good game's don't have the best graphics, I think grasping that nostalgia feeling is just fine. Terraria was a masterpiece, Minecraft as well and Hytale has everything in it's favor to do the same. And reminder, Hytale is made by the people who own the biggest Minecraft server, there's clear inspiration but calling it a copy because it has blocks, you mine and is a sandbox sounds like a stretch since minecraft isn't a pioneer.
COD has an identity, and if those identifiers were used to make a game like COD, it would be fair to say that game is like COD.

Let it be known comments like this guy are legit the same people who say Terraria is 2D minecraft when the two games could not possibly be any more different but simple minded people see blocks in a game with pixel graphics and their simple brains cannot distinguish them when there is clearly aspects of core design and systems designed to focus on different strengths. Minecraft is a sandbox game about being a block hoarder and building cool structures. Hytale is far more similar (and will get even close to) a game like Valheim where the purpose of it is strong RPG mechanics (likely eventually a skill/talent tree and classes) and a large variety of enemies throughout the world and various biomes that pose a real threat to you. Minecraft's "difficulty" period is legit farming enough wood before the first night to make a small shack and dig down. Once you have a sword and even 1 piece of iron armor Minecraft stops being a game with realistic threats that can kill you and becomes a game where you drop 30,000 torches everywhere to prevent mob spawns around your base and farm for full diamond armor and set up an exp farm for enchants.

How is BOTW slop when Genshin relies heavily on in game transactions? I'm not saying Genshin is a bad game, I actually enjoy it quite a bit. But why can't just two games be good games even when game studios take inspiration from eachother? Like, the same way that just because Minecraft exists it doesn't make Hytale a worse game. It's the same with every other game that takes inspiration from another (as long as it's not a blatant copy, which I don't think Genshin is of BOTW).

I immediately thought of several concepts for a Minecraft series that also spans into hytale. I could make a Minecraft series where they play hightail on the computers, I could also make an ARG series because hytale will eventually have mods I could make the hytale world be just another dimension, i’m also thinking about making some mods to blend some of these concepts. I just never thought hightail would ever exist so that’s why I’m very excited.

Thats not quite true. This version is based on the engine seen in the 2018 trailer, but it incorporates multiple features from 2019 - 2023.

I miss the days when people said "This could be one of the next greats." Instead of writing something off as slop or a copy when they hardly understand it. In the toxic wasteland that was the live chat this stream, I saw chats from people who gave up without even giving it 20 seconds of attention at the beginning of the stream, and given that this game took 8 years, to develop, (a good portion of that time spent on getting fucked over by Riot games.) it's heartbreaking to see that the majority of people don't remember this game, and want to hate off principal because it's different from their comfort game. This is not to say that this game doesn't have problems like enemy balancing and glitches. What I'm saying is that positives like the gorgeous art style, fluid movement and animated and other massive quality of life features should never be glossed over in favor of hating because it's easier. I'm gonna remain steadfast and hope this game succeeds. Because it deserves too.

Modders have been apart of it. Plenty of people in the MC modding community have spent the last few months building up mods and there's already a ton out as of launch day. This is a game that leans extremely heavily into the modded community so it's gonna be good.

@Dreamer218 im not saying Hytale cant be better but it wont reach minecraft massive 16 years of history and over 300 million copies sold. No GTA released to date has sold as much as Minecraft. But there's no denying that Minecraft has stagnated for audiences who want more.
and yeah, Hytale will sell millions of copies, but it doesn't have to match Minecraft to be a success. If it manages to maintain a solid base of loyal players, it will already be a great victory.
I really hope Hytale is successful. Simon and his team deserve a break after so much effort to revive the hype for the game after its cancellation and sorry the massive text, just wanted to say that

Dude, I LOVED SurvivalCraft! It was an explosion of content that pocket edition simply didn't have at the time, so I poured as many hours into that game as I did MCPE, and Terraria! I might have to play that again for nostalgia's sake, along with Hytale.
