Looks good. Have one question. By loading the samples from 2023 first, did the computer cache them somehow so that when you went to 2024 they were pre-cached? What would the result be if you hit the 2024 version first, then 2023? Just curious, not being critical of your test.

that was exactly what did come to my mind when seeing the results. As much as I want On1 2024 to be way faster that seems to be faster than possible even if the use the inbuilt previews from the file instead of generating new ones.

Good point! I would like to know what video card and processor Scott is using too as his rendering speed in 2023 is much slower than mine (i7 8700K, rtx3060).

TL;DR ON1 Photo RAW 2024 is *MUCH* faster
Great question! And I did do that experiment, visiting an unbrowsed folder in PR 2024 first, then the same folder in PR 2023. PR 2024 showed the photos in the blink of an eye, while PR 2023 still chugged along a bit generating thumbnails. For folders with dozens of images, PR 2024 took perhaps a second or two to show thumbnails, barely a beat.
I’ll also note that in PR 2023, once I’d visited a folder and the thumbnails were fresh, they are cached. I could navigate away from the folder, then back to it, and PR 2023 showed the thumbnails almost instantly. Tells me PR 2024 is doing something different. It’s just faster.

It's a MacBook Apple M1 chip (original)... so it's the GPU built into the M1.

It is always good if you say what your equipment is doing any speed comparisons and since you only looked at cataloged files not really the browser you might change the title, laughs - What do you think of the new UI?

      It's noted in the video ... a 2020 MacBook w/ the original Apple M1.
And while not in the video, I've also done browses to non-cataloged folders... 2024 is much faster. Maybe 1 second beat in a folder with 50+ images on my aging laptop. :)
The UI ... I've been a *long* time user of ON1, so some of my muscle memory needs retraining. I need to work with it some more (it's only been a day since I got the pre-release)

I've just installed Photo Raw 2024 on a Macbook Pro and compared to the speed of lightroom it is a disaster. It runs at half the speed of smell. Calling it blazingly fast is a serious misnomer.

Was fast until the last update.2025.5. The first couple of photos are fast but after that they are minutes loading. It's quicker to close down and start again..

You must have pre-loaded those thumbnails in the background, in the new version.

Well my PC is way faster that your laptop. ON1 2023 is almost instant for me. Even If I open a folder with 50 plus photos in I can scroll down and look at then all within an instant 🤔

Guess I need to upgrade my hardware! :) Not surprising, I suppose ... it is a laptop (and 3+ years old at that). When I'm mobile, I know I'll appreciate the speed increase.

Speed has always been my largest issue with On1 from it's beginning; long, long ago.
Even with the lag, I found the results worth the time (still faster than if I had done everything myself in Photoshop).
Really looking forward to this release!

Looks like some pre-caching is going on in 2024; yes! (Or at least some background independent loading threads running.)

Replied to this via another comment. Even in the reverse direction, PR2024 first, then PR2023... PR2024 is _much_ faster.

Those were catalogued pics. What about new folders that have not been catalogued? Those take quite a bit of time in 2023

    • @ScottDavenport
      @ScottDavenport  11 месяцев назад +1

PR2024 is faster for sure. I use cataloged for my stuff... did a quick test pointing to my Downloads folder (which tends to be a dumping ground for temporary images on my system). Took about a second on my MacBook for ~50 images to load. I expect it'll take longer for more images (of course), though the point is PR2024 is _much_ snappier than PR2023.

On 1 and "Blazing Fast" hahahahaha. For how many years have they been peddling that bullshit.
