Honeybees will not typically collect from plants right in front of their hives. They normally fly out of the hive and defecate, so will normally collect pollen and nectar from further away. Moving the hives might help.
This is a 1acre orchard and they were not on any of the haskap plants, even the ones 200 feet away. They do hit the white clover in the alleyways though.
Interesting about the bees. In the UK my haskaps flower March-April and I too noticed that all the pollinators seemed to be bumble and not honey bees, I wondered if it was because the bumbles wake up earlier but I'm not sure, our honey bee population has took a big tumble in recent years. First harvest next week from my 2018 planting, only a hobby orchard of 250 plants so I'll be happy with a few pounds/kgs!
I’m wondering if a honeybee has a long enough tongue for the haskap flowers? The bumblebees have long tongues and can reach into flowers that other bees can’t.
Really enjoyed seeing where your new plants are at this year. Where do you get those plastic attachments on the top of your posts? I'm doing bird netting this year and have been designing my own system, those caps look really convenient.

Lookin nice. Rabbits chewed my boreal trio over winter down to nubs. Happy to see some life popping up from the remains but sad to wait till at least next year for any fruit. Do you think composted chicken manure would be too hot for the haskaps?
Some of the best haskap plants that I have ever seen have been mulched with composted chicken manure. We use a pelletized composted chicken manure that we spread over our entire orchards with a broadcast spreader.
@@lahaveriverberryfarm2347 thanks, I heard they are sensitive to fertilizer so I just wasn't sure on the chicken stuff( composted, pelleted). I'll give it a try to help them recover. 👍
@@79PoisonBreaker I have not used commercial fertilizers on haskap. Everything that I have used to date is a slow release fertilizer, so I really am not able to comment on how sensitive haskap are to strong commercial fertilizers.
@@79PoisonBreaker I've got a bunch myself which I grow in grow bags, and this year I fertilized them each with used coffee grounds from Starbuck's and a handful of Berry fertilizer and mine have all done really well (at least with new growth). I just threw it onto of the mulch; didn't bury or mix it.

Doesn't seem to be an issue. Although honeybees appear to visit a dandelion before they will visit a haskap flower.
