  • Despite making up only 0.4% of India's population, Jains contribute a staggering 24% to the country's Income Tax collection and own more than 28% of Indian property. Popular names include Gautam #Adani, Dilip Shanghvi, Rajesh Mehta, and several more.
    This video delves deep into the cultural, religious, and historical factors that have propelled the #Jain community to prosperity. Uncover how principles like Ahimsa (non-violence), Aparigraha (non-possessiveness), and an inherent sense of community play a key role in the Jains' impressive economic prowess.

      You will find charitable Jain hospitals and schools in every neighbourhood. In Mumbai, 85% eyes and 95% skin is donated by Jains and Gujaratis (Source: timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/in-mumbai-85-eyes-95-skin-donated-by-gujaratis-jains/articleshow/19299085.cms)
      And although I could not find verify the sources, there are claims that they run 12,000 Goshalas in the country and contribute 62% to overall charitable donations.
      I am sorry that was your experience.
      While exceptions are always there, Jains truly are one of the most charitable communities.

      @@gauravjain183if you are talking about Mumbai then you will find that only Gujarati Jains are rich and good in business but Marathi Jains are middle class and not that good in business.
      In North India more than 90% Jains belong to the bania caste and we all know that Hindu or Jain all baniyas are rich and good in business.
      So it is the cast and the ethnicity which make them good in business not the religion.
      I am a Bengali OBC and if tomorrow I become a Jain then I will not become good in business but if a Marwari becomes Jain he will be good in business because he was always good in business.

    One thing you did not talk about is the north and south Divide of jains. Jains can be categorised mainly into 5 linguistic groups: Gujarati, Marwadi, North Belt (UP, MP, Delhi), Marathi and Kannadigas. There are also negligible numbers of Tamilan and Bengalis (Saraks). Gujarati, Marwadi and north Indian jains have a good inter community relationship. And marathis, Kannadigas, and Tamils have inter relationship. The north and south don't actually intermingle with each other. You don't see North South jain marriages. But you see bania jain marriages, or south Indian jains marrying groups like lingayats, gowdas, Marathas etc.

Second Jainism's basic principle is ahimsa, which stops many for joining defence, but there are still many Jains such as Abhinandan Varthman, MAJ. SK jain, Vice Admiral Atul Kumar jain, Neeraj Jain, Maj Gen Yogesh jain. You can just type jain and defence and you'll get many results. Sports I can agree Jains have not produced many people, but the fun fact is India's first marathon runner to participate in foreign was Jain, anju jain female cricketer. I appreciate the explanation and it makes sense. Though the nature of the economy itself, is extractive and profoundly imbalanced leading to great inequity. This is rooted significantly in how the monetary system works and how money has been conceived of.Thus the institutional structures are working against the core principle of Ahimsa. The world is a testament to this.

    Your statistics of 24% tax, own 28% of Indian property is a wild outrageous guess (or whichever news paper makes that claim).
    I know many Jains who are normal middle class folks, the biggest mantra for their success in my opinion ( which you have correctly pointed)
    1) Joint family living amicably, this gives a tremendous psychological support and security, and allows one to take risk because they have a safety net to fall back on knowing they will have roof, food and their children will be taken care of in case things go wrong.
    2) They have a tight community network by which getting credit, loan, preferred partnership is very easy.
    3) They are not so much distracted by material trapping and vices and super focused on their objective. They take pride in charity not splurging money on extravagance or show off.
    4) Lastly Satvik food may also be a factor as they say in business 'never make a deal when you are extremely happy or extremely angry or any such emotional extremity ' .Satvik food apparently keeps your mind in a balanced state of mind as I have heard.

    • @unravelled_shankar
      @unravelled_shankar  10 месяцев назад

      While I am no expert on the subject, Marwaris are not a classification based on religion, but on region. They are usually people who originated from the region of Eastern Rajasthan, and were involved in trade and commerce. So while some Marwaris might be Jains, it is not true that all Marwaris are Jains.

    • @unravelled_shankar
      @unravelled_shankar  11 месяцев назад +3

      Farming is not Ahimsa for them, but uprooting plants is. If you eat the fruits of a mango tree until it dies on its own, it is not Ahimsa. But if you uproot a plant in order to eat it, as in the case of onions or garlic, you are killing the plant BEFORE it's natural death - that is Himsa
      I hope this answers your question.

      This is the most stupid reason given but this is not his fault. He just picked up what he got from internet & our education system without going deep. This is what all youtubers do. Our education system will make you feel your religion is illogical and make you subconsciously hate it.
      There is no truth in this statement that jains are not into farming as it is himsa.
      1st tirthankar of Jain is Rushab dev and his vahan is bull ( just like Shiva or my be he is same as Shiva. Check similarity of Shiva and Rushabh). He is said to have taught agriculture and changed people from nomads to agricultural societies.

      To the best of my knowledge Rishabhnasth Bhagwan was the First Teerthankar of Jains which is also mentioned in all Hindu literature. Rishabhnaath ji taught this world about 6 acitivities These were: (1) Asi (swordsmanship for protection), (2) Masi (writing skills), (3) Krishi (agriculture), (4) Vidya (knowledge), (5) Vanijya (trade and commerce) and (6) Shilp (crafts).[34][35][36] In other words, he is credited with introducing karma-bhumi (the age of action) by founding arts and professions to enable householders to sustain themselves.Even Acharya Vidyasagar ji who is the most reverted saint of Jains belongs to farmer family.Even all Teerthankar bhagwans of Jains are from Kshatriyas. So i don't think that jains don't do farming or work in army for protection of nation. in

    All Jain billionaires in Mumbai are Gujarati. And we know that all Gujaratis are good in business.
    Same thing in North India. More than 90% North Indian Jains belongs to bania cast and everyone knows that all buniyas are good in business.
    So it is there baniya cast or their Gujarati ethnicity which make them good in business not there religion.

    you have to do deeper research..... very very peripheral thoughts.... Jainism was the major religion in Tamil Country before Bhakti movement brought Hinduism... your thoughts are limited to current day Jain's... No problem if you limit yourself to the last 300 years... Longevity in life needs to be attributed to availability of Medical Care rather than only on diet... Don't glorify unnecessarily.... there is a great difference from Tamil Jain's who were predominantly into agri to marwari and Guj Jain's into trading..... Very very peripheral thoughts.... stick to what you know for sure....

    • @unravelled_shankar
      @unravelled_shankar  11 месяцев назад

      Sorry, but I never said whether Hinduism or Jainism came first in Tamil Nadu. That is largely debatable even among scholars of the subject.
      Moreover, the kind of medical care available to people today is largely the same, and the data clearly shows that Jains are living longer, so the other factor has to be diet - research confirms the same, too.
      The population of Tamil Jains is estimated to be 25,000-35,000: blogs.lse.ac.uk/southasia/2015/12/11/the-tamil-jains-a-minority-within-a-minority/
      The total population of Jains per the 2011 census is 4,451,753. So, Tamil Jains are about 0.78% of the total Jain population of India.
      Yes, Tamil Jains were predominantly in Agriculture, but since the majority (remaining 99.2%) of Jains did not practice agriculture, I feel I am right when I say that the majority of Jains do not practice agriculture :)
