Not Trove Chest upgrade pack. So I completely missed it. it's also $30. I guess hopefully they add it to the store page? A little annoyed there wasn't just an option or something to say you were a backer of the original chest.

I like the idea but preordering one gearloc for $35 plus $15 for shipping gets expensive. $50 for a single gearloc? I’m going to have to wait until I can combine an order and that will be tough to plan for if this is going to be a random thing
Ghillie answered this already somewhere else but it's an attempt to recoup costs on other areas. Things like the flat rate shipping during unbreakable was a big loss for them so some product lines like this are a way to get those funds back. At the end of the day it's a matter of do you like CTG enough to keep their lights on or not.

@@prototypep4 about 50/50 on this. At the end of the day they do try to work on a smaller margin to keep it as affordable as possible. However that’s the model they chose. I can see how upcharging for something like a gearlocs is harder to swallow. In my opinion all the non game content should be where that up charge happens so the people who don’t care about coffee or plushies can get the content as cheaply as possible and those with disposable income can make up for it with coffee and plushies.

Riffle will remain a website exclusive. Because CTG is not in distribution, it's part of an ongoing effort to help drive interest and traffic to our webstore. We have been eating a ton of hidden shipping costs over the course of the last year. Promotions like this help us recover some of that as a business. Apologies if that seems harsh, but we do need promotions like this on occasion to help drive webstore visibility and allow us to be very generous with crazy flat rates across our other sales channels.
People will complain, and I am admittedly annoyed as I went all in on Too Many Bones Unbreakable (including the Trove Chest), but I think this is genius. It will drive people to the web store. And I applaud the creative marketing!
But it could also annoy loyal old customers. Whether in the long run and whether it was worth it remains to be seen. Unfortunately, it is becoming more and more common that existing customers are treated like a negligible quantity. This is the first time I have seen CTG behave in a way that could be understood as such. So far, this company has been absolutely exemplary in terms of customer friendliness.

We're definitely planning to forecast the next arrival of Riffle ahead of time now that the initial reveal has happened. This model is also unique to Riffle and not the beginning of a new sales model.

Canada here, backer of every campaign, mostly group buys so we can huddle and support the shipping together, flat rate shipping was a gift! I'm always on the cheering wagon when it comes to CTG, However I feel a little hurt by these news and mode of release as I added the Automaton when it was announced, on the Unbreakable PM and now the 'surprise' was not only dismissively 'ruined' for us but also prohibitively released. I understand promos and offers to entice webstore traffic, but this crosses into actual expansion :( Sounds like only the people who got the book direct from the store were in on the puzzle hunting and also they are the ones this is meant for. I'm pretty sure that is not the intention. Like Ret, if in the future we get lucky to see it as an add-on, I'll get the last gearloc to fill my magnificent Trove Chest.

To clarify, I added my comment as a fellow Canadian who is not only still waiting for her Unbreakable group buy to deliver the Automaton book, but also, like Ret, really don't want to be paying C$70 for 1 gearloc...but you can add other things to make it worth it, some may say, sure, except I back every campaign so I have all the things already. But you can huddle with others to save on shipping, nope, no flat rate and also it would be tough to organize this in 48hrs now and 24 hrs in the future.

Yep, we understand there will be folks who feel that way. However, because we are not in wide distribution, we need initiatives that drive interest and traffic to our webstore. We also subsidize shipping massively in nearly everything we do. Initiatives like this allow us to continue to be extra generous in those ways in other places like crowdfunding campaigns and such.

We'd also just note that in most cases we eat a tremendous amount of that cost on behalf of the customer. Promotions like this are a way for us to make a little of that back in order to continue to offer generous and aggressive flat rate shipping across the rest of our line.
(But also just to be clear, this *is* what it costs to ship this stuff. We're not pulling these prices out of thin air. It hurts, but it's reality with the current state of global logistics)

However, P Zwackelmann has already pointed out that you could have employed the economies of scale to lower the delivery costs for those who backs your crowdfunding campaign. Or you could have got rid of the ridiculously lavish and beautiful but oversturdy and unnecessary boxes that the expansion gearlocs are packed in. It's both cost-effective and eco-friendlier-ish. Instead, we have this 48 hr FOMO marketing.

Understand the higher cost of the product. Am definitely annoyed because of the 48 hours limited time to order. And it will only get easier to miss in future runs when it is only a 24 hours window. This sucks - would be the last time I ever support Chip Theory Games after going for the $1,100 completionist pledge in the unbreakable campaign
