See the image in the description. It's not a very common method. Most people hold the controller normally, then quickly move their left thumb over to the D-Pad right after starting the sidehop.

Kurt Viehdorfer Correct, except the "even harder trick" is easier than this. Since the Fishing Rod is used to gain access to Snowpeak (with Reekfish Scent) you need to find another way. If you try to scale the mountain without the scent you void out and end up back at the bottom. To get around this issue you need to remove loading zones so the game's unable to punish you for not having the scent. The speedrunning legal and easiest way to do this is to perform Map Glitch and later re-enable loading zones using the howling stone, which you can learn more about here: ruclips.net/video/HCd00XrpRG8/видео.html (6:10)

Nice Skyreon. Most of these glitches are in so crappy quality on utube but this on the other hand explained things very good.

When I tried this (GCN) I keep reseting to the beginning of the game screen, any tips?

I tried doing it but I’m stuck on the right foot on rope. After i get my root foot on rope and (hold x, start, then b) do I reset the system?
Holding X, Start and B resets the system. Make sure you wait a second before adding in B.
