"You Had No Idea Were Sampled" ... come on man.. rofl
Nicky Nada had no idea take on me
I believe a lot of people who just listen to music and don't really think about it, probably don't realize that these songs have samples. I have a lot of videos on my channel where I show what songs were sampled by what artists. Nicki Minaj, Jay-Z , Fergie and many more.
I didn’t know
Who still says ROFL
rOfL
it hurts me that you didn't know that a-ha sample
I knew both songs, but I never recognised the sample
Benjamin Ljunggren I love A-ha Take On Me and I'm glad my dad showed me the song
Lichy Guevara you're not very bright
Things is I never heard of Aguilera's one but i heard of a-ha lol
How can you NOT recognize the sample?......

Me: No shit...?
Same lol
Headphones Girl I be seen comments from people who just have no clue.... blows my mind but the kids out there then some ignorant others are so narrowed they don't realize what's around them
Came here to say exactly this.
Hahaha! Well aware of that! Baby Got Back was top of the charts when I was in high school, and they played it at EVERY school dance.
Headphones Girl I thought everyone knew anaconda was sampled
in "run the world" is practically the s a m e lol
Also those songs are only 2 years apart so idk how you could not know that one.
+James D just because is recent i had to know? i have no ideia it was major lazer before lean on, so yes, as i said, sound exactly the same for me :)
Switch produced Pon de Floor with Diplo when he was part of Major Lazer project and then Switch produce "Run The World" by Beyonce and use the same beat maybe that is why sound the same. sorry for my english
don't fucking forget afrojack :/
In Jamaica, the producer has the right to the rhythm and invites artistes to voice on it. This is not uncommon at all here. Nelly Furtado did the same thing with Turn off the Lights actually.
You might be living under a rock if you didn't know Baby Got Back was sampled in Anaconda.
Edit: Thanks for all the likes! For you serious folks, it's obviously meant as a joke; I know not everyone has heard the song. It's all in good fun, I'm not hurting anyone. Plus I said *might be* living under a rock, doesn't mean you are :P
same with Take On Me and Feel This Moment
sweethaze _ I checked twice, made sure I don't live under a rock even though I never heard that song
sweethaze _ ikr
Buzda good thing I said might be
In my opinion, this goes for every song in that list lol
We Can't Stop isn't really a sample, as much as it is just referencing the song.
init I was thinking that, not sampling at all
Taking a beat or a hook off the original song is a sample, taking bar out of a song and making your own version is just copying there shit. Take dead presents by jay z, that's a bar out of a song but still using the original sound, if jay had of said it that would just be him saying the same shit that nas said. Not a sample
+FaintVFX is it foook
slick rick is way better than miley though.
Aaron Strahm I mean...it's hard to compare two totally different types of music, but if you think that, that's cool.

I met this guy two days ago who went on tour with major lazer and produced their videos, and I got to see the unreleased video of their tour ! it was amazing
Viva La Vida wasn't sampled, it was accidentally ripped off, Joe Satriani sued Coldplay, and then they settled it out of court.
RedTV8888 yeah sure. "Accidentally "
analysing both songs really just lead you to a slightly similar melodic contour on only a select few phrases
RedTV8888 accidentally?! With word manipulation like you must have gone to law school! 😂😂
Neshawn Ghavamian Accidentally writing something that you don't know already exists as a song simply because you have never heard it before is very possible and quite common. Billy Joel has even admitted that the original version of Movin' Out was pointed out to him as sounding exactly like another song that was fairly popular and well known by his drummer and he didn't even realize it until it was pointed out to him. It's extremely likely that Coldplay wrote the song, recorded it, and released it without ever hearing the not very popular Joe Satriani song. Same goes for the fans that made it famous by buying it. How many people do you really think thought "Wow, that sounds JUST LIKE that one part from that one Joe Satriani song."?
RedTV8888 Me bit i listen to a lot of Joe so that may be the only reason haha

I'm reading these comments and just realizing how many people overuse the term "ripoff". Sampling is part of music.
yeah, or "copying, "stole". Most beats are regurgitated again and again. People need to get over it lol.
*****
that is an extremly ignorant comment. Reusing the beats is different from real sampling. Sampling is to take a very little piece of the original and incoporate it in a innovative way, like Kanye sampling basically 3 seconds of King Crimson in "Power". What Ariana Grande did with that Big Pun song, for instance, is the typical example of an actual "ripoff"
Tom Lv ripping off would be Miss.Grande not crediting the orginal artist or not crediting the writers. Ariana did however credit the samples in her album liners and wikipedia references.
aaron tsukino
I was just looking at it in the artistic perspective (which is just my objective opinion), not legal
There is a line between sampling/re interpreting and out right copying. some of these cross that line. Also, when you don't credit the original work, you cross that line.
I feel like everybody knew about Baby Got Back and Anaconda

She is so overrated
Fun fact: when you “steal” a song you actually pay respect, pay tons of money, and have a tribute for the creator! So she’s giving the creator respect!
Not stolen. You have to pay the original artists to sample from their songs
@@TheHuskyK9 search “Countdown Beyonce Imitates” and see for yourself
@@TheHuskyK9 you can just try stealing it changing it up a bit and hope it doesnt get noticed.
A lot of these aren't technically samples, though. They're just like stolen ideas.
+Dan Yuleo what even is your logic behind this at all
Loraine Kelly
The Logic is A doesn't equal B haha. Pretty simple, really. To take ideas isn't sampling. Sampling is using a blip of audio in a new song. Many of these weren't samplings at all, but just reiterations of older ideas.
Do you have "logic behind" disregarding that? Not trying to antagonize, just don't understand what you don't.
"idea's"? chord progressions and melodies can be copyrighted. these were blatantly stolen
Leon Herperger
I can definitely get behind that stance (regardless of everything being "a remix" of something that came before, as Kirby put it).

TJ Trashboat no trash. Viva was not a parody. Fallen Kingdom was. Everybody is doing this but I whoosh all of you who don’t even know. Fallen Kingdom parodied Viva La Vida, which won against a lawsuit over Joe Satriani’s If I Could Fly. The melodies are *i n t e r p o l a t e d*. Listen to it
@@peytondoesthings they settled out of court with Joe.
@@peytondoesthings oh my god are you serious?

I don't think you really got what "Sampling" means.
Yeah and the Coldplay song was dealt with in court, straight up stolen :P
Lol, are the windows in your house always very clean? :/
Well then, unlicensed remastering.
57 Year Old James Bond not when you give it a different name and claim it as your original composition. :P
Sampling is when for example in Dubstep where they take a small audio clip and put it before the drop. But most of these weren't sampled they were just stolen
There's a difference between sampling, interpolation, referencing, and then just plain ripping something the fuck off. Most of these are the latter.
LOL Anaconda
what is interpolation
Neji Nii-san Actually, Anaconda is one of the few songs that isn't ripping off the song because it's clear that she didn't create that part.
victoria I mean, true, though it doesn't change how she straight up copy pasted.
Neji Nii-san if you actually listened to the song you know she only used the my anaconda part and didn’t even use the same hook
It's funny how when One Direction does something like this theres people who just freak out and say they stole someone else's music, but when artists like these do it most people hardly even notice it.
Exactly!
Exactly!!
Thank you!

Yes ikr i was like thats was the wrong song
For the Coldplay one I don't think it was sampled there was actually some kind of lawsuit involved I believe.
If I am right, the Viva La Vida melody is from a classical song and Coldplay told that they made the song all by themself etc etc. But I am not sure about it, correct me if you need to
The Satriani/Coldplay one was not a sample. They just happened to sound alike. Remember the lawsuit?

@@milesbeining Just wondering, but who do you say are great artists than?
I love your pfp lol
Some of these songs aren't sampled, they just ripped off the idea. Someone needs to learn what sampling is..
+RunrigFan He/ She is right. Most of these weren't sampled. Sampling is literally cutting parts of an audio and re-using it. This does not include taking inspirations from older songs or having similar melodies.
yeah this not sampling lazy producers maybe they got no inspiration
Ripping off melodies and ideas is NOT sampling.
Sampling means to use a part of a composition extrapolating the audio file from it and use it in a brand new arrange for your own composition.
Plagiarism isn't sampling cause the idea/sound (or both) have been reproduced with some equipment, instead of being directly recorded and used with or without modification.
You posted a few examples where both things accrued... Maybe you don't care, but now you know the difference ;)
I`m going to rip off all the Beatles and Michael Jackson songs and become world famous. And why not? Kids today don`t know their music.
But legally, you can get away with practically stealing entire beats and call it sampling. How else would every song on the radio sound exactly the same somehow?
+Jordan Well that's the thing with licensing. There are lots of sites that offer sample packs and you can make music with them. When you buy them you have a license to use them in your own compositions. Lots of producers buy these packs and that's why there are sometimes same loop or sound being used in different songs. Music production isn't really that based on originality, that's why these packs are being created for producers; they're good business. When there is an exact same melody from an old song being used in a new song, it is licensed from the original writer of that old song. If the melody sounds similar, it is most likely inspired by that old song.
Dude any kid who has watched back to the future has listened to a chuck berry song
Adren Graff good
How do people not know Take On Me? It's such a classic.
I actually thought everyone would know that one tbh
It doesn't mean they don't know the sampled song, just that most people wouldn't notice the similarities.
Or the song sampled from I mean
"Take on Me" is classic 80's, and should never be touched!
its impossible to recongize
Well, most of these isn't Even sampled, there just copied lol
Do you not know what sampling means?
Funny Moments yes, but ‘feel this moment’ didn't sample that song, they just stole the melody, same with gangsters paradise and many other songs On this list. STUPID!
Magnus Andresen that’s what sampling is... they pay... to “steal” or use the exact melody. You. You don’t know what sampling means...
mintytree aka rosecharm5 no, sampling is taking the exact audio clip and putting effects on it or chopping it up. Using a melody or lyrics is different, you just have to give them songwriter credits
The only one that was stolen was viva la vida
I knew about half of these. I would be really disappointed if no one knew that about "Anaconda" though.
And for the people out there who are getting mad at the artists who are sampling from different artists, just remember: they have permission to use parts of the song. Also, it's not like they are completely copying the exact song. They are taking snippets and incorporating it into their existing song to create something new.
ikr I saw the vid (on a dare) and I was like OOOOOOOMMMMMGGGGGGG I know who this is!!!
I like how you put it :)

Very few of those were actually "sampled". There's a huge difference between sampling music and ripping off music.
It's sampling if the artists' producers paid the rights to use the particular sample, therefore acknowledging the origin of the sample.
how do you know they weren't sampled?
None of these would ever exist if they didn't have permission from the producers to use the material
Depends on how you define the word "sampled". Usually it means that the artist litteraly takes a piece of the original song and plays it on loop or incorporates it in to their song while adding their vocals and other instruments to the mix (a great example is Ice Ice Baby). In that case most of these songs weren't sampled, they just reused melodies and/or chord progressions.
It was a rip-off, but that doesn't mean that Vanilla Ice didn't sample Under Pressure, he did, just without permission. Most of the songs on this list however are not samples per se, they're just ripping off melodies and guitar/synth riffs and whatnot.
I knew all of these, however, Pitbull's songs are ALWAYS so blatant. As for the Beyonce's run the world, Diplo gave her permission and suggested she use it.
+100Stratusfiedx also it was produced by Switch who is part of Major Lazer
+100Stratusfiedx Sampling is always done legally.
wow seems like beyonce isnt really original
+Slayonce 1 si porque su fama se debe a esas muestras, por eso no es original
+Lara G Also, she stole If I Were A Boy from its original composer. Well, technically, it's not her who stole it but her manager. Anyways, the writer/composer/original singer of If I Were A Boy sued Beyonce but she got away with it.
+Lara G its not realy the artist fault ,they are told what to do by the mi. so you will never know if they have real talent, real music fans dont listen to commercal pop music at all as it is the lowest form of music anyway, deviod of any originality and containing no virtuosos,do yourself a favour and listen to prog ,jazz,if u have attention span,or open mind
Regardless of wether anything by Beyoncé is sampled or not, she doesn't even write her own music anyways. So your issue should be with the originality of the producers writing for her lol. I bet Beyoncé couldn't write produce and mix down a song for shit
+Lara G okay, yes this is your opinion but just because beyonce sampled some songs doesn't mean she isn't original. also, its not beyonce's fault, it is her manager, so stop hating on her since you know you do like some of her ORINGINAL songs.
Bruh sir mix a lot was literally in both songs😂😂
People should know Anaconda was sampled.
I hate Pitbull for what he has done to such an iconic song as "Take on me"
oh god. This comment was only written a year ago, yet back then we were so fresh, so innocent. AND WE HADNT HAD TO WITNESS PITBULL DESTROY TOTO - AFRICA YET! FFS pitbull!
That last one made me laugh tho.
Sampling doesn't mean using the same lyrics :D
That's actually also called sampling
@@carlemilfgreve No, reusing lyrics is not sampling, sampling is using parts of a song and adding new elements to it, not using lyrics from another song.
wait... gangsters paradise... i never knew oh my.
I knew most of these. *gasp* THE TITLE LIED TO ME
Dude... "La Di Da Di" is one of if not THE most sampled song in music history. Miley was far from the first person to bite it.
Laeric Thomas I'm pretty sure Beyonce also used it for her song "Party"
Glad Drago never heard that song, but it wouldn't surprise me. That song has been sampled COUNTLESS times
thats so painfully wrong the most sampled song of a all time is funky drummer. since it was used for most rap and hip hop beats
RaF KiNs I'm so painfully wrong for saying "La Di Da Di" is ONE OF the most sampled songs? No, I'm not. There are several songs that have been sampled way more than "Funky Drummer." I guess should have said "La Di Da Di" has the most LYRICAL references in other songs, along with the beat. Either way, YOU are painfully wrong, both in saying it's the MOST sampled song, AND in saying it's beat is used for MOST hip-hop songs. Most would mean the majority, and that is absolutely false.
oh ok do you have a diploma in music and studied music for two years? also lyrical referencing is NOT sampling . just curious what songs use la di da di?
About the "We Can't Stop" one..... that's not a sample.
Why not?
@@MIMH32 It’s a reference, not a sample. Lyrics aren’t sampled unless it’s part of the beat. Taking someone’s lyrics and putting it in your own lyrics is referencing

I freaked out with Joe Satriani and Coldplay
+Teh Madafacas no fucking kidding...I didn't want to believe it.
+Teh Madafacas Satriani samled it from "Enanitos Verdes - Frances limon" listen and see.
Julio Alfonso Cervantes Gonzalez It seems that they all "sampled" it from an Italian composer back on the 18th century, as his music is now in public domain... I wonder how many artists actually make their own songs and don't steal music from others...
+Teh Madafacas Actually this wasn't a sample, Coldplay claimed they just happened to make up the tune, they had never even heard Satrianis song. It went to court and everything…
Hip Hip Heredia Well, it could be, but I find it hard to believe that Coldplay made the tune on their own, when there were other 2 artists before them who seem to have the same tune as a 17th century composer... Did all of them go to court to prove they hadn't copied anything? And what kind of proof can assure in a court that you didn't take a certain melody from a composer who is defunct?
Fall Out Boy sampled the Munsters theme song in Uma Thurman
I'm pretty sure everyone knows Anaconda sampled Baby Got Back....
I think EVERYONE knew Nicki Minaj sampled Sir-Mix-A-Lot
A lot of these seem to just sound the same or use a little bit of the same lyrics but not be sampled.

+Harrison Yeah I could've sworn sampling meant taking an actual snippet of a song and putting it into your own. I was confused with some of them that just had a similar melody and were called samples.
the people who made this aren't really tracking
+Harrison Yes they are. A sample according to copyright law is taking an actual snippet of a song or replaying a melody or lyric of a song that is not yours and using it for your own work. You can get sued if you do either without their permission.
A bunch of them are though

btw sampled doesn't mean ripped off, it's means they got permission- most of of these aren't that similar so they're still some creativity/talents involved!

DalyDoesMC Other times...But i also feel like Stevie Wonder's song was just waitin' to be what it should be..."Gangsta Paradise". But i grew up with that movie, not in the 70's
Well yeah there's something about Stevie's voice which somewhat makes it better. But me growing up and as a 90s kid, I'm more profound to gangsta's paradise
But then we've gotta admit, Amish Paradise is better
Anaconda? Lol y'all think we didn't know? Plus you failed to mention Lady Gaga's Venus that has a Sun Ra sample.
Lady Gaga's Venus was intentional, actually she bought the rights for the song.
David Seoane yeah she listed it on the credits too!
the last one is just a troll
Ganstas paradise isn't sampled it is based off of pastime paradise
It samples the chorus of pastime paradise.
beyonce copied the beats almost to 100% i kinda think its not ok. about the britney one i was very suprised
Nooo! Switch was part of Major Lazer and produce "Pon De Floor" then he produce Beyonce's "Run The World". Is the same producer. He just sampled hes own song.
i see beyonce alot time copying inteprets. no shade just my ears and eyes told me this after see her in her solo caree
Feride Dogan it's called sampling. She got permission to use it. Don't get it twisted. And you wanna mention Beyonce but not Coolio? Okay then.
Aisha yes thats why people bring her all time to court because she got permission. i didnt said is something wrong. just the original inteprets get much less attention
Feride Dogan okay
Wait- people don't know Anaconda sampled Baby Got Back? Really?
Literally the most obvious thing in the world
Sampling can be used really creatively, most commonly in electronic music and hip-hop, to give new context to a sample, and still manage to add something new.
I have a question on that.. If i wanna make a song using sampling.. I have a perc base for example and then i add a sample with some chops of another song. I can make this remix? I need the Copyright of the original artist? it's enought to change the tempo or the tune of this samples? thanks :)
The coolest one was the Gangstas Paradise sampling the Stevie Wonder song!
Ariana grande break your heart right back also sampled a song
What song is sampled to that?
SydniAnnCummingsx13 "I'm Coming Out' By diana ross
That was the point of it.
Jake Nguyen yes, I'm pretty sure we are all aware of that :) I don't know why people are making such a fuzz about samples, the artist pays for the copyrights so they can use it on their songs. I don't see a problem with that :)
The best one was run the world
Weird Al: I have a great idea for a song parody
Coolio: No, I don't want you to use my song
Stevie Wonder: Whose song we talking about?
I don't think the "viva la vida" one was sample. they just happen to be the same chords.
Satriani's melodies have been used before. "Right through me" by Nicki Minaj was using a similar one as his intro lick from "Always with me, always with you"
Let's put it this way. At the very least, one song is the other's inspiration.
I think sometimes it happens by accident so they just credit the original artist to avoid a lawsuit xD
Icha Cicilia yeah they dropped the lawsuit because the similarities weren't bad enough
Do people really not know the Nicki/Sir mixalot one....?????
xXTheBuddXx I MEAN ITS LIKE IN THE TITLE
I didn't know the A-ha one was sampled, but I knew they were similar.
Its the same melody but if ones being pedantic its not a sample its a recreation! the synth sound is totally different to the original recording
Meh... a ha has been sampled and remixed to death in the last 20+ years by numerous djs. I doubt that the pitbull song was even inspired by the bare original song.
Arvark When Pitbull and Aguilera performed Feel This Moment at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, the lead singer of a-Ha came out and sang the second verse and chorus of "Take on Me" instead.
sugarcone
Yeah, it's called avoiding a lawsuit.
How about all the references in the music video? C'moon, with all the squares and and shit
Not an accurate title for 99.9% of people
why would someone take a list of songs that everone knows they are sampled and call it "You had no idea they were sampled"?
