Making Visby Gauntlets

  • A little bit ago I made a pair of Visby style gauntlets based on the ones found at the mass graves from the battle of Visby. Ultimately these were made for my new suit of armor I am building, and I will eventually make a more in depth video for these, but I thought it would be nice to just toss this little video out as a trailer or something I guess.

    I used this to make my own brigandine gauntlets, so far I have only finished the left hand, and I still have to make the wrist protection, but it came out looking just like the video! Thank you for making great instructional and educational video's, it really helps me out as someone who is just starting to get into making my own equipment.

    The design on these is somehow fascinating. After seeing this video I went to learn about battle of Visby and looked sights on Gotland with google maps. Damn, I get carried away easily... I'll probably try to make these at one point, thanks for the video!

    What steel do you use and where do you get it from

      I ususally use mild steel because it's easy to obtain and subsequently work with, it also can be comparable to many historical examples. Though I did get a bunch of stainless steel a while ago which is a little different to work with, but a bit tougher. I tend to get the mild steel from a local machine shop that sells large sheets of steel in varying thicknesses.

      Hey man sorry I didn't respond earlier, must have missed the notification. Now that you mention it making a discord might not be a bad idea, I'll do that and make an announcement at some point.

    Just wondering: R u still doing this or did you grow out of the hobby?

    • @LivingManuscript
      @LivingManuscript  Год назад +1

      Still very much doing it! Unfortunately, my situation in life at the moment prevents me from making as much armor as I used to do, which is sad, but I've made a lot more friends who do this as well and have been doing skirmishes with them. They all want armor so I'll definitely be finding the time to make more :)

    How did you attach the actual gauntlet part to a glove? Did you sew it on or did you use little straps of some sort?

    • @LivingManuscript
      @LivingManuscript  6 лет назад +3

      I sewed each finger on. On each finger I left a tiny little bit of leather on the edges of the plates so that I could spiral stitch them onto the glove, the thread can be seen pretty easily on the thumbs of these gauntlets here

      I hope this helps some, eventually I'll be putting a video together of a more in depth process of making these.

    Ok, I HATE this song, but playing during a gauntlet making video is hilarious.

      Well today is your lucky day! Since you asked, I put together a little video of the gauntlets. (ruclips.net/video/kld1mhrccmc/видео.html)
      Or, alternatively, I usually post a bunch of images of my projects to the Living Manuscript Facebook page (facebook.com/pg/LivingManuscript/photos/?ref=page_internal).
      I hope you like the video!
