Some parts (especially in the beginning) played out like baby’s first video game experience, though that toned down a lot when you got to the tower, otherwise pretty good
As a longtime fan whose interest has been waning after 5 years this fucking infuriates me, entirely because of the game. What you got to experience was for the most part butchered snippets of better stories that are not available in the game anymore stitched together into a new player experience that drops any kind of creative integrity for the sake of quickly throwing exposition at you. Forsaken, for example, was an expansion that they removed from the game two years ago that was at its initial release nearly five years ago considered the best expansion the game ever had. That story was gorgeous and well delivered and personal and you got this shitty cut-down version of its first mission with no background or attachment provided whatsoever. i could write an essay about this but I won't, because it's not worth it anymore, but just know that absolutely none of the confusion is abnormal and almost every positive you gave is a reuse of something they made so long ago that it was almost a different studio making it.
@@ShamefullyAlive thats the whole fuckin problem man, the stuff that made you like cayde so much simply does not exist anymore and what little does is a butchered mockery
this is a warning to anyone who makes it through at most 10 hours of gameplay. this is your life now. i was but a child when i began playing the original destiny at its very beginning... 9 years and 8,700 hours of gameplay across all platforms later and im still stuck. be wary
I concur with this, I wasn't a gamer. Then my wife showed me this. I love just finding a high place thats hard to get to and emoting and enjoying the view haha. Power hard cap and iron lord now adays 😂
@@Mr-atom55true but it’s only half his story, I feel bad for whoever didn’t get to do the Cayde quest after his death where he had recordings for each of his friends
The part where he talks about “talking to me like he’s known me forever” hurt my soul. He has known “you” forever you just haven’t known him 😭😭 bungle did that mfs character and history so dirty with the sunsetting of forsaken
I have 5000 hours in this game, played it since 2019, I have always felt like the new players experience was terrible since they removed the vanilla campaign
Not 'like free to try,' it is free to try. At its core it is a pay to play game, it just has a hefty trial mode that fools people into thinking it's free to play.
I’ve got over 3,000 hours in Destiny 2. I’m also a Destiny 1 veteran who’s been playing since before the first dlc came out. To this day, a lot of the time I spend playing the game is mainly dedicated to keeping up with everything going on in the story. There’s an entire in-game library of lore books you can access on your menu screen, and entire RUclips channels are dedicated to explaining what those lore books mean. And still, so many important questions are unanswered. I guess, for me, trying to understand Destiny is part of the fun. But it’s definitely a lot for a new player to take in.
I've been playing Destiny since 2014 i started in the Beta for D1. This was entertaining seeing the new player experience also it reminded me why i fell in love with the game to begin with. That being said you are a brave man for talking that much shit about Cayde-6. Thats the best way to make enemies of every destiny veteran lol.
This was very refreshing to see. I have a little over 4,000 hours in Destiny 2. I've had to spend a lot of time on RUclips getting answers to missing story features. There's a lot that was mentioned in Destiny 1 but I didn't play it much then. Your mention of how Ikora makes you wanna sleep, yeah, I felt that same way. I still do whenever I hear her dialogue. Regardless of all that, everything you mentioned and experienced, yeah, all valid. Something I immediately had in common with you was the mention of the cutscenes. They're what pulled me into the game.
As somebody who's played destiny for 7 years, I love this because it's nice to see that he's doing this without help and it really does seem so nice to see him play destiny.
the new light experience isnt great.. but man, it's so captivating... it's like starting up WoW making a night-elf character, joining a Dragon Soul raid.
For a game that us vets hate with a passion, we cant put it down. Honestly, the gameplay and everything is phenomenal. What’s not phenomenal is the other 98% of what Bungie does.
i've been playing this game for years, and while it has definitely become a lot more new player friendly, it's still quite confusing, both in the gameplay and lore. oddly enough, i think that's part of it's charm? it makes you want to play more to uncover its secrets and very confusing numbers. can't wait to see more destiny content from you!
They need to put the Red War back in to the game as a tutorial.. Red War was pretty damn good and I'm quite sure it would hold players better than what this "new light experience" is ffs..
@@elitereptilian200 I've never actually gotten to play it myself, but I always hear older players mention the same point, which just makes me sad cause I feel like I missed out on it lmao.
This is the fifth video I’ve watched about a new players experience in Destiny 2, and the same problem that I saw that was similar and all players that were new was that they don’t like reading the description then they get kind of upset at certain game mechanics when reading the description would fix all their problems
I personally think that they don't tell you how you die because they want the player to come up with their own backstory which I like it adds to the role playing element of the game. I also do think that new light is still confusing and does not explain everything well enough, light and dark are not just a coin like it used to be. most of the new light experience is gate keeping which really sucks. also when a character "disappears" that is transmating via transmate beacons which is how you fast travel in the game. Navota is a Hive witch who killed those guardians so she is an enemy of the city who is only relevant for that bit of New Light. Cayde-6 was the what Zavala and Ikora are to their classes but for hunters and was the comedic person in the story before they killed him in the Forsaken Campaign. I am not going to defend the season pass system. but the weapons and armor you get from it are ass and you can easily earn better items via playing the game itself. Jumping off the tower is tradition if you dont do it at least once you havent played destiny. the reason for most content for being dlc is because the game used to be a standard 60 dollar game.
It's also a lore tie-in. No Guardian knows the story of their previous life. And those who knew them in their previous life are forbidden from telling them anything about it. The point of your ghost resurrecting for the first time, is that it's supposed to be a fresh start. A second chance, without any of the baggage of your previous life to weigh you down. So why would the player get any different treatment from every other Guardian in-universe? It's not meant to be relevant what happened in your character's past; all that's supposed to matter is what the player does next
While the previous reply about the guardians arent supposed to know their past, its also lore that MOST new guardians are resurrected near the Cosmodrome in New Russia. Through out the entire campaign, you are learning about the light, and its purpose in the universe. You learn through the Witch Queen that she used uldren sov as a test bed, and when he got revived she figured out the Guardians creed of "Bravery, Devotion, Sacrifice" are the keys to becoming chosen by the Traveler. After learning about the Golden Age and the following collapse, and how the attack came from space, you can HEAVILY infer most new guardians were valiant warriors that died defending the cosmodrome and the traveler from the pyramids, considering Rasputin went dark after nuking himself on mars to keep the Hive God frozen beneath a nuclear tundra. All of that is in game, this next part is my head cannon. I think that can also be the reason Felwinter was born. The Traveler chose Rasputin because of his devotion to humanity.
I've been addicted for at least 6mths now, and still have no idea what's going on half the time. Am mid 50's and know how sad that is, but......well there is no 'but'.
I have played Warframe for years and have played Destiny since the very beginning of the first game. No regrets for either, but I have kinda put Warframe aside for now. I'm still playing Destiny though. I take breaks from time to time, but I always come back. I have played through basically every era of both Destiny 1 and Destiny 2, through the highs and lows. I have played casually and sweat...ily? Destiny has flaws, but it is still one of the best games out there. I will never forget the first time I played Destiny and the way it made me feel. My first raid, first time going to the Lighthouse, first time hitting Legend in Competitive are all things that left huge impressions on me. I encourage you to try everything this game has to offer. Good luck. And as always..."Eyes up, Guardian".
I've played Destiny since the alpha for Destiny 1. While it's fun to see someone play it for the first time, this game is designed to be addictive. That's why you can't stop.
You. Know, if you played thru D1 first, you’d have understood a bunch more, in a simpler platform including who Cayde 6 is. Unfortunately, they vaulted forsaken, the red war is gone as well. HHS info played this game intensely off and on for 10 years, the build system is complicated. The perks on weapons is a lot to learn, then they added aspects, fragments and weapons. There’s the PvP Crucible, iron Banner and Trials of Osiris. PVE is the real story line and it does require you buy the expansions to really understand both the story and the best builds. To get the best armor and weapons you really start in the seasons and then the end game content. Is it worth it? Yes, it is. Is it expensive? Yes. But most players have being playing since D1 and know more. I cannot imagine knowing nothing and starting now. Do I love it? It’s the only game I play like this. Starting at Lightfall, man, your near Final Shape which is the conclusion of 10 years of lore, build, weapon crafting and game play. So you know, seasons tell quite a bit about the story as well.
Yeah, everything is confusing in the beginning, it really is a "ya had to be there" kind of game, but it's really fun, especially with friends, which I recommend going after to play, either New Lights like you, or people that have been playing for years now... Maybe I should follow this advice myself, been a solo player since season 15 till now 😅
Nice video. As someone who started playing this game about 2 years ago, you should count your blessings though, because the new player experience was way worse and even more confusing than what you describe! I remember eventually having to plough through a 4 hour video by Byf which spliced together all the cutscenes going back almost to the beginning so the story made sense. And it took me ages to understand all the character stats, different subclasses, weapon archetypes etc. The good news is that the game has an active community and some excellent content creators who can explain this stuff in detail.
The lore in Destiny 2, is amazing. What this video shows scratches only the surface. What seems obviously black and white, turns out to be very Grey. VERY good story telling. Highly recommend going down the rabbit hole
Aug 2nd 2023 was my one year anniversary with destiny....Id never played an mmorpg in my entire life...I popped it in and was very confused as what i was supposed to do ... luckily my friend plays this game and he showed me the ins and outs of destiny and one year later I am the founder of a very successful clan "The servants of Yahweh" and i cant stop playing this game...Ive been playing rpgs since the 80s and this is the most addicting game ive ever played in my life....
As someone who's been playing this game for too many years, my advice for approaching things like builds and some advanced combat/ability mechanics and menus, is to just take it easy. What you did by focusing primarily on your overall power level number at first is great, and eventually you'll be able to more easily branch out and explore more complex systems, but don't stress too much about all that at first. Yes, there are countless tweaks, mods, fragments, and options that are available, and that can feel super overwhelming on its surface, but you aren't required to build into those systems to succeed early on. It's very likely you'll find options down the road that better suit your play style and preferences, but you won't be at a disadvantage running whatever starting subclass setup came "out of the box", and using whatever items you pick up that have a bigger number than the one you already have equipped. When you are more ready to explore these systems, they'll be there for you. I also would recommend not focusing too much on what could be "most effective" early on, as at the end of the day, there are very few situations in the game that you couldn't succeed in using any class, subclass, or weapon. If you wanna switch things up, just look for stuff that sounds like fun to you - oh cool, a throwing knife melee that explodes when you hit a target, badass! What's this about "scorch"? Oh, it can set enemies on fire if i use certain abilities... Well i like that, and this fragment says it makes scorch last longer, that sounds like a good thing! - have fun, and don't be nervous to try different stuff out any time you feel like, you can always switch back later if it isn't working for you 👍 Stay vigilant guardian 👋
I'm setting at around 12000 hours I think between Destiny 1 and 2. It's nice to have been with the game that long and it's easy to take advantage of just knowing things. I've never really considered exactly how much things have changed and how little you can actually do to reference it all even. It's a fun game, been an expensive and fun game, keeping up with all the DLCs and releases has been insane
To be fair, the cayde mission was advertised to be the end of cayde. We all knew he was dying going into Forsaken. Cant say it was really spoiled because the expansion wasnt about the death of cayde. It was about the revenge of the vanguard.
Bungie should take notes to improve the new light experience from this video. Great insight to the overall first impressions for new players all around!
I’m glad you discovered my favorite game ever.. the micro transactions are not giving you weapons.. expansions do.. unfortunately the expansions are kinda confusing to buy and.. expensive. Bungie already stated that they’re going to overhaul the expansions situation. Have fun.
Hey, some context. Cayde's death, is not a spoiler. That was the main pitch for Forsaken, its in the trailer for it as well. They kill of the favourite character and that starts the quest. Your confusion with Cayde is much lesser tha nwhat I had when I started in 2020 when timeline reflections werent event available. Cayde acts like he knows our character because he does, from Destiny 1. It would be weird if he didnt. Loved this video,.
Damn, a Destiny 2 and Transformers reference in one video? You're really trying to bring me in. Also i liked the video, my only ask would have been a live reaction to certain scenes and moments to get your raw reactions.
Amazing video man! It's awesome to see new people try the game for the first time. I couldn't convinve my friends to install the game, so I'm stuck as a solo player. If you need any help to do the Raids or dungeons, I may be able to help you.
Seeing all this from your perspective was eye opening since all of these things “I was there” for made perfect sense. No wonder new lights are so confused!
I love this game. Well over 50 full days in just Destiny 2, but I have to agree with others. This game although free to download and start is not entirely free to play. The game is the equivalent of an MMO at this point that just updates and sells you the story at full price. Ive bought every single expansion, watched every lore video, join Discord servers, used LFG, etc. It's a very fun game in my opinion, but it's so hard to get into if you dont have anyone helping you understand things as you go or spend money. The game is huge and has almost 10 years of content and story that you can't even experience anymore. For someone like me who played through D1 and D2 up to the most recent Expansion i'm in love with this game and I will support its continuation but i have such a hard time recommending it to people because of the money and time pit this franchise has become. Fantastic story, nice enough community, but the transition to its current state of the game, the vaulting of whole expansions that have released without allowing people to experience them is beyond frustrating. I love this game but I have my gripes with it.
The game looks so good and epic because it wasn't free to play when it was made, that happened years later, and the expansions with story aren't free either. All this stuff you're watching for free us hardcore players paid for at one point.
I also started playing D2 recently, and it's a very good game. I enjoy playing it, as there is always something to do. If the DLCs were much cheaper and if the game was more friendly for solo play, I would spend even more time playing it.
Yeah, the game has been running for so long it’s REALLY difficult to jump in now. But Destiny is for me one of the greatest games ever made. Truly groundbreaking when it first launched. Also Cayde 6 is one of the best characters in a game.
And came into destiny at probably the worst possible time if your confused now you're gonna be throughout the rest of the game no worries though there's still hope you have Byf he's our lore daddy he will catch you up
For any new players like this guy, be careful. I picked up D1 as a kid on 2014, and never put down the franchise until I literally had to a couple years back due to college. It’s addicting.
"I never knew you in life" opening was the OLD trailer before they pulled the ORIGINAL Destiny E3 trailer and slapped the 2 on it, but that opening just felt wrong, but to veterans of the game to hear the voice of the speaker again rocked us so incredibly hard. Sometimes players will delete characters to replay some missions, and we get the trailer, so many vets saw the NEW trailer and the older ones aswell.
Destiny always felt like the halo 3 mechanics to me, and i played alot of halo. Was no.1 for stick grenade and shotgun kills on halo charts for a while in the beginning. Been playing destinty since it came out, its still fun. The Joker Crew is my clan in destiny. All who consider themselves reliable are welcome to join, send me a request. Currently around 30 members
some tips 1 go into settings an turn on the auto fire for all weapons in settings 2 turn off your auto melee key or on take it off your controller and put on 1 for your abbility melee and one for your normal melee this should help greatly
Regarding the season pass, most of the weapons and armors in the pass have pretty bad perks and stats. You claim those gears so you can farm them with the seasonal vendor, they just unlock more gears for you to farm. Most people buy the season pass for the seasonal story.
It's worth noting the actual weapons and armor in the season pass are generally not great, so they're not a big deal. They're more like.. Samples of the seasonal gear you can earn much MUCH better versions of
The Cayde Mission you played is actually just half of the original one. It was the first Forsaken mission and also introduced you to a new enemie race. Sad how they changed it
im ngl its cool and all to see a new light actually get excited about the game, personally ive been playing since beta in destiny 1 and through all the crap people give this game because its somehow bungies fault that the people who play it arent enjoying it and believe me theres a lot of that crap, its cool to see at least someone is having fun with it as well :)
As a Destiny 1 Alpha veteran I can honestly say…. Destiny is the greatest game ever created. Yes it’s had its ups and downs and very very low downs but I always sign in every other day. It’s almost like a second job. It’s gotten me through hard times in my life. I’ve grown so much since I first started playing Destiny. I’ve even grown as a gamer. This game will always go down as my all time number one favorite game.
Nice video, I am D2 vet with like 7000 hours (its not an addiction I swear). So, if I am going to offer some unsolicited advice. 1) If, you are going to buy a campaign the current one, Lightfall is the most relevant and will allow access to it's story missions which are somewhat mid, the Raid, root of nightmares which is also considered mid by veteran players but is an excellent intro to raiding imo. Lightfall will also allow you to access the strand subclasses which has a fun grapple mechanic and excellent crowd control abilities which will be useful for higher difficulty activities like Master raids and Grandmaster nightfall strikes. 2) The best narrative and gameplay sequence in the game is the Witch Queen expansion on Legend difficulty, which also comes with access to one of the best boss encounters in the game at the final boss of the Vow of the Disciple raid. This expansion may or may not give access to weapon crafting as well, a useful system to getting personalized weaponry. Weapon crafting, however, still requires farming and RNG to unlock weapon patterns. Witch Queen, sadly does not have an associated subclass to unlock. 3) Beyond Light is narratively not great either, but allows access to the Stasis subclass. The only other selling point to this expansion is access to the raid, Deep stone crypt which has some fun encounters and great loot. 4) The greatest fun in Destiny 2 is raiding imo. Solving challenges with friends and shooting baddies while earning some potent weapons. 5) Grandmaster Nightfalls are extra challenging with bullet sponge enemies and champions. Champs require specific weapon or ability combos to stun, so that they take increased damage. Not the most interesting difficulty knob, but Grandmasters earn you end game upgrade materials and adept weapons (slightly higher base stats and access to a larger pool of weapon mods). 6) The crucible, PvP, is the most repayable content in the game since playing against different players makes each match feel slightly unique. The flipside of this, the meta for PvP is always well- defined, so about 1/3 to 1/2 of your lobbies will be filled with meta spammers. However, many players like me have been perfecting their PvP builds and playstyles for, no exaggeration, a decade. Running into those players can be very frustrating and sometimes downright toxic. If you have ever liked arena shooters, like halo of cod, and have an intrinsic motivation to get better when losing, it could be worth dipping your toes into the deep end. You will be rewarded with some crucible specific loot and cosmetics if you stick with it. 7) Some people's end game enjoyment comes from finding synergies with weapons, exotic armor and armor mods, and Subclass abilities then watching enemies melt in front of you. Others are here to max out their guardian rank. Still others are here to dominate other players in PvP. Find your niche, and importantly a group of other players who are playing the game for the same reasons you are. TLDR: Get some buddies and do some raids, Try everything else out. Witch queen legendary campaign is amazing. If you get a lot of dopamine when those purple or yellow items appear on the right side of your screen post-activity completion, be careful because this game already has a hold on you. Good luck, Guardian. I am looking forward to your part 2 Feel free to reach out with questions, I know you will have a lot of them.
If I was to make a analogy I'd say, think of warframe's Teshin, being someone tenno has interracted in numerous quests and being one of the most recognized characters within the playerbase. Then imagine him getting offed in a cutscene following after some futile gameplay, and now new players are, in the aftermath of that, constantly reminded of how well liked and influential and important he was, all without any context or emotional investment from a newbie's POV.
When he said he's played alot of warframe, like 500 hours I giggled shaking my head at my over 5000 hours on d2 and I've only played since halfway thru season of arrivals. Lol😅😂😢
I'm not sure if anyone else has said, but the reason why Cayde acts like he knows you isn't because the mission is just a sample of the expansion, it's because the game is missing it's original base story, not to mention you're missing the entire first game's context. Additionally, each of those expansion sample missions is the beginning of each expansion, so by doing them you're basically getting spoiled to some degree on what happens in the previous expansions. Not to mention that the seasonal stories (that also cost money) which bridge each expansion to the next are ALSO removed from the game after the year is over. I'm very salty about this, as a day one Destiny 1 player. They remove core plot all the time and it's ridiculous. If you are starting the game late and care about story, you are being done a massive disservice by Bungie, even if you pay for all of the available content. The game is probably the best FPS on the market, but it is surrounded by grind systems that I loathe and horrible mistreatment of the story's presentation. If you're coming from Warframe, you probably won't mind the grind, but you're definitely going to have to put extra effort (that you shouldn't have to) in order to care about the story.
Fun fact: the big Spider Tank you fought during the tutorial is actually scripted. You can even return to that area later and watch as new tanks spawn every 2 minutes or so whenever a new player gets to that part. The constant stream of Heavy Weapon ammo from the crate is nice for farming certain things, too.
12:09 You’re going to have to change your stance on Cayde. He brought us all back when he died, game almost got shut down the year before. He’s also bringing us back for Final Shape. He’s our buddy, our mascot, and a true hero 🤩 You didn’t even walk it back when you later learned. While it was a you had to be there moment, you’ll put a lot of people off ✌️
@@effortlessfury That’s an anecdotal fallacy. I’m plenty happy with the game. Those who aren’t have unrealistic expectations. Never forget, expectation is the root of all disappointment. Maybe it not Bungie’s fault, but thine own 🤔
Destiny is the best PvE shooter experience (the looting and seasonal content has its highs and lows) but the one thing I have always had told to me over the 10 years of playing it and introducing people to it is that the shooting, weapons, and abilities all feel masterfully consistent. Keep in mind, the intro mission in Old Russia/Cosmodrome was gutted from Destiny 1 into the modern version of their Tiger Engine, which has way better fidelity in terms of lighting. One of the main gripes people have with the game is that original D2 content (the Red War and its two mini DLCs Curse of Osiris [god awful BTW] and Warmind) were removed from the game even though you had purchased them. This also goes the same for the entirety of the year of Forsaken content as well... HOWEVER, the bright side is that when they bring back all the old content, it usually has VFX and actual story overhauls that either clarify or recontextual things for newer players, like: Some of the original D2 strikes were updated to match the current state of affairs in the world. Navota was originally Omnigul from Destiny The Dark Below but her strike was recontextualized for all the New Light players. The Arms Dealer strike was originally a D2 vanilla strike that got recontextualized into a Lightfall setpiece (it still results in the same ending, but there are new mechanics and paths instead). Lake of Shadows was also another D2 vanilla strike (for Playstation, until Forsaken) that got recontextualized when the Pyramids invaded our Solar system and includes some new lore and interactions with the Witch Queen and Lightfall expansions (this also fundamentally plays out the same, but keeps newer players up to date). Almost all the Destiny 1 raids that were stuck in 720p and on two console generations back are now ported for FREE to all players. These raids got mechanical and graphical updates as well as loot overhauls as well. Recently the old Destiny 1 Crota's End was integrated into Destiny 2 and it was given a lot of love and the loot from it is really good. They also brought back Destiny 1's first expansion raid King's Fall back earlier last year which was also really nice with all the new graphical upgrades and being able to be played in 60+fps. All the old content that was removed and vaulted gets repurposed and rolled out better than it was in its earlier state... at least so far anyway, but a lot of the complain comes from players who are disatisfied by Bungie's practice to remove content, which they have stopped doing but still do for season pass content (this has always been the case on a year to year basis from its implementation anyway). Every year, they tend to take the most favored parts of the experiemental seasonal content and make permanent adjustments to add to the game like one season introduced the concept of longer, more enemy dense PvE environments called Battlegrounds which all have been integrated into the Strikes playlist instead of being taken out for new content cycles. Systems like Legendary Lost sectors which were season specific and limited to only a handful of lost sectors were then implemented across all lost sectors and were given target farming (you can run them solo to focus farm for specific slot exotic armor pieces). A lot of the complaints about the game comes from the management of playable content rather than the quality of content itself (though obviously that is to personal preference). Since you are a new player and are fascinated with the game, you'lll definitely have a lot to do, but that train will slow down just as much as any other looter game. But if you want a game that has a lot of extensive lore and atmosphere, the game will do wonders for that inner chidlike exploration you have been craving.
I would also like to add that the DLC purchasing/entitlement confusion isn't as bad as the Steam or any of the console marketplaces makes it out to be. The reason why there are so many options is that Bungie wanted people to hop into the game at any given point with the seasonal model so they make people buy things a la carte (or if you have the money, a package deal which saves a lot of money in the long run). As for why Shadowkeep was not a main story beat in the timeline, it was mostly a remix of old content given to us with upgrades (it was also Bungie's first expansion after they split with Activision Blizzard). This was considered the true precursor for the Darkness' revival into the story (cause Activision Blizzard forced Bungie to cut our the nebulous concept of capital D darkness, which is why the intro cutscenes go so hard on the concept for new players now). The Light and Darkness saga begins with Shadowkeep because Bungie never intended to produce Destiny 2 as a sequel story or follow it up with Forsaken; Activision wanted more player retention and a dramatic story/shocker value of Cayde dying to have a revenge story to draw in players who dropped off for sentimental value (funny cause Cayde is somehow coming back next expansion)... so Activision funded them, was disappointed even though Forsaken was seen as a success, which in turn disgruntled Bungie and made them split. The true progression for the original vision for Destiny was supposed to be Destiny 1 with expansions rather than split into two separate games. The natural progression was supposed to be D1, Taken King, Rise of Iron, Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, The Witch Queen, and Lightfall into next years finale. The implementation of D2 as a reboot sequel as well as the above story about Forsaken were likely not a part of Bungie's original vision because we learned about Activision's shitty business practices about throttling player XP, changing all the loot systems of the original game, and implementing different dev teams (Vicarious Visions and High Moon Studios) into Bungie's dev space which led to mixed results. It got to the point where Bungie had to reintegrate original story beats from the alpha version of the game AROUND the context of the story that Activision made them make. A lot of the characters like Rasputin, Crow, and Osiris had their stories changes in response to the build of the game dictated by Activision, but now a lot of these characters are back with actual stories to tell in the seasonal structure. People loved the new seasonal drip fed content Bungie implemented because it felt like the world was moving forward with progress on a weekly basis, but we have all now grown tired of it because of burnout and he lack of having real tangible results (hopefully with Final Shape we will get a satisfying resolution to the saga). Bungie has had to do a lot of course correcting to fix a lot of the problems that Activision molded into the game's foundations... but that isn't to say that Bungie does not share blame for a lot of other things wrong with the game like the current expansion's god awful pacing/story telling (they fired some of the writing team who made it apparently), but hey, at least the new darkness powers called Strand (the green ones) are actually really fucking fun to use and the people who made them are fucking amazing at what they do.
This is a really high quality comment I really enjoyed reading it. I do agree the game did indeed spark that childhood wonder and intrigue, and i have had a few people comment about destiny 1 footage being used that really confused me considering I have never played it. I also never consider Activision’s play in all of this, you explain it extremely well thank you !
@@kol4o1000 Yeah, you'll be shocked by how much Activision made Bungie change the narrative direction of the game, which also has to change the systems implemented for the game as well. Originally in Destiny 1, we had a similar class customization system to that which we have now. You could go into your character, pick their elemental subclass, then pick all the functions/abilities from a tree (similar to the seasonal artifact), but Activision requested it to be gutted to streamline the player experience when Destiny 2 launched for all platforms, especially for the completely new PC players. This was because at the beginning of Destiny 2, the big bad Cabal Red Legion comes and blocks out the Traveler and basically we lost the light and earned new powers instead (so the old system was gone similar to how Metroid makes Samus lose everything). It wasn't until Beyond Light (the blue expansion) that introduced us to the use of Darkness powers of Stasis, the ones you used in the video (the ice vortex kama sickle things) that we got a revision to the ORIGINAL subclass system but ONLY for Stasis. Literally every player loved the reintroduction of this system, and going forward through the seasons past it at the start of Witch Queen, each elemental subclass got overhauls with that system in mind AND we even got some new abilities and super for free because a lot of the original D2 supers were so similar that they could be combined into 1, so they needed to add in stuff to compensate (some changes were WAY better, some argue are worse). This new system introduced the "verbs" system... that is, when you look at your subclass and see the tooltips that pop up, those are "verbs", effects/debuffs/buffs that occur when using abilities (things like Cure, Restoration, Jolt, Devour... etc etc) as well as gave perks on weapons more variety and flexibility through implementing subclass synergies that interact with those effects (this was completely new, and is one of the reasons why Witch Queen's year of content was considered amazing).
You are supposed to fight the spider tank. But it also is a random public event. It just puts you into an instance where its about to start when you walk out to it.
This is interesting cause I love Warframe But I tried destiny a while back and I honestly didn’t enjoy it after 15 or 20 hours of play. Maybe I’ll try again, the intro is definitely different from mine, I remember the whole beginning being sooooo boring
At 6:00 you mention how good the graphics are and that its a "Free to play game", however you might not know as a new player that the game wasn't always free. Destiny 1 was a full $60 game and so was Destiny 2 when it came out. It has only been "free to play" for a couple of years now, but has been funded by the DLCs for a long time, as well
I put in over 500 hours into D2, which is nothing compared to many players but it’s the most I’ve ever put into one game. Anything can be addictive, but D2 is VERY addictive once you get into it. I don’t play it anymore, none of my friends do either, but if you enjoy it, great. Just… be wary.
Bungie spoiled Cayde's death in the marketing for the Forsaken expansion. It was the first thing said in it's reveal, so the selling point was getting revenge for his death.
Started d1 2 months in and at this point I am a guardian who wields the light and darkness.I took a break from curse of Osiris and came back during beyond light and I’m back to my same ways
You gave me and my pals such a good laugh when you said MASTER RAHOOL SHOT CAYDE! That was great lmao, I loved this video, thanks for the enjoyment :) Edit: Also, Welcome to Destiny Guardian 👍
LOL. 4 years ago my sons were visiting me and were playing a new game DESTINY 2. THEIR ENTIRE VISIT THEY PLAYED THIS GAME. When they left I decided to “play around” …. That was 4 years ago and I’ve been playing everyday. I need help! LOO😂lll
11:25 Ikora Rey, Master of Staring in the the distance. Throughout the vanilla campaign, that is what she did. Just looked at stuff from a distance and even now, that's what they do. Ikora and Zavala just stare out into the city bored out of their minds, hoping our guarding invites them to kill a god or two with them.
Good video, but for the season pass portion, theres really only 1 thing in the entirety of it thats unfair to free to play and its the deepsight harmonizers. Harmonizers can ONLY be obtainied via the pass. The rest of it is pretty much useless or very easily attainable.
I've been playing since D1. almost 10 years man. honestly probably over 10k hours of gameplay if you include waiting at the tower or in orbit... Do not BUY the game at full price. wait for it to go on sale. DO NOT order from their merch store, the customer service is atrocious. DO NOT get into it if you have an addictive personality. they had lead scientists developed their gameplay patterns, loops, and reward system. (John Hopson) The community is 50% chill and casual and the other 50% is sweaty, no-life try hards The battle pass and in game currency system is literally criminal. They will remove content you already paid for and continue to charge more for each expansion (seasonal sunsetting) As a veteran player, If you have friends that play and you can afford it (in more ways than one) then for sure get the game and have fun As a consumer I find their choices to be completely anti-consumer with the battle passes, EVENT battle passes, cosmetic bundles that are pay to win, and horrible un-dedicated servers, no core updates to Gambit and a limited space for you to put your gear. This is just my personal opinion ty for reading this.😅
Let me know what you think !
The only thing i have to say is i will not take cayde-6 slander😂

It’s sad new players can’t get to know Cayde-6 like myself and many other vets know him. He’s easily my favorite character in all of Destiny.
You could technically go back and play Destiny 1. Cayde is still alive there
@@Mr-atom55true but it’s only half his story, I feel bad for whoever didn’t get to do the Cayde quest after his death where he had recordings for each of his friends
The part where he talks about “talking to me like he’s known me forever” hurt my soul. He has known “you” forever you just haven’t known him 😭😭 bungle did that mfs character and history so dirty with the sunsetting of forsaken
I think I miss him more than anyone in my real life. Lol
At least we get him back in final shape
I have 5000 hours in this game, played it since 2019, I have always felt like the new players experience was terrible since they removed the vanilla campaign

This game is more like a free to try, there is so much locked behind a paywall. Ive been playing since the 1st game released and i cannot stop 😂
Not 'like free to try,' it is free to try.
At its core it is a pay to play game, it just has a hefty trial mode that fools people into thinking it's free to play.
Destiny has a free trial, it's not even close to be a free to play game lol
Bold of this man to assume this is a free to play game
I’ve got over 3,000 hours in Destiny 2. I’m also a Destiny 1 veteran who’s been playing since before the first dlc came out. To this day, a lot of the time I spend playing the game is mainly dedicated to keeping up with everything going on in the story. There’s an entire in-game library of lore books you can access on your menu screen, and entire RUclips channels are dedicated to explaining what those lore books mean. And still, so many important questions are unanswered. I guess, for me, trying to understand Destiny is part of the fun. But it’s definitely a lot for a new player to take in.
Welcome to Destiny! You can’t leave now…
I've been playing Destiny since 2014 i started in the Beta for D1. This was entertaining seeing the new player experience also it reminded me why i fell in love with the game to begin with. That being said you are a brave man for talking that much shit about Cayde-6. Thats the best way to make enemies of every destiny veteran lol.
This game is the first time i have ever fully engaged with a community, you truly won’t get another game like destiny. It’s truly special
What’s not phenomenal is the other 98% of what Bungie does.
i wouldn’t say hate the game, more like bungie. the game is amazing, the monetization and some of the updates are just… bad
I have 12000 hrs only idiot vets hate it
i've been playing this game for years, and while it has definitely become a lot more new player friendly, it's still quite confusing, both in the gameplay and lore. oddly enough, i think that's part of it's charm? it makes you want to play more to uncover its secrets and very confusing numbers. can't wait to see more destiny content from you!
I agree, i think thats a big part of why i got so obsessed with it!
Welcome to the community dear sir.
It’s also a reason why they avoid your character from making certain choices and speaking just like Nobel 6
Maybe I should follow this advice myself, been a solo player since season 15 till now 😅
Cayde’s death was actually spoiled by the reveal trailer for Forsaken, so everyone knew he was going to die. Forsaken was more of a revenge story.
Bro is so easily impressed, I'm jealous
I really urge you to try raids, specifically King’s Fall once you get some more gear
Will try to include it in the second part
@@kol4o1000 Don't recommend it unless you got a team of regulars at your side, LFG can be toxic and quite many clans are toxic as well.

seeing a real new light after years of playing the game is so wholesome
I was 15 when this first came out now 24 and a dad of two avoid this game😂
it sucks that they took out every campaign pre shadowkeep, must be so confusing to get put in the middle of the story
My guy is a Blueberry
You've touched less than 1% of the game, enjoyyy!
It's pretty cool to see a new players perspective, it's tough to get into, but once you're in it's a ton of fun 😊
IDK why but hearing you call Shaw Han "Shawn" had me dying. Great video!
Cayde's death was actually used in the marketing for that expansion. He dies in the commercials. So it was an intentional spoiler for everyone.
And came into destiny at probably the worst possible time if your confused now you're gonna be throughout the rest of the game no worries though there's still hope you have Byf he's our lore daddy he will catch you up
love your stuff dude. very legit. good humor, interesting points. imma sub :)
For any new players like this guy, be careful. I picked up D1 as a kid on 2014, and never put down the franchise until I literally had to a couple years back due to college. It’s addicting.
“So I guess shadowkeep doesn’t matter then.”
So uh, yeaaaah. I think bungie even forgot they made shadowkeep.
They just added a new tutorial for crushing ghosts to that mission. Not going to say its because of this video. But its a hell of a coincidence.
“Could he always do this?” Took me out 😂
"I never knew you in life" opening was the OLD trailer before they pulled the ORIGINAL Destiny E3 trailer and slapped the 2 on it, but that opening just felt wrong, but to veterans of the game to hear the voice of the speaker again rocked us so incredibly hard. Sometimes players will delete characters to replay some missions, and we get the trailer, so many vets saw the NEW trailer and the older ones aswell.
Despite player destiny’s for years now I can really relate to this even now! 😂 love your content my guy! Thank you
Sad thing is, they just don't do cutscenes like this anymore. They've really cheaped out on them
Destiny always felt like the halo 3 mechanics to me, and i played alot of halo. Was no.1 for stick grenade and shotgun kills on halo charts for a while in the beginning. Been playing destinty since it came out, its still fun.

some tips 1 go into settings an turn on the auto fire for all weapons in settings 2 turn off your auto melee key or on take it off your controller and put on 1 for your abbility melee and one for your normal melee this should help greatly
Half an hour to understand destiny 2’s story, yeah. *nervously looks at 2-4 hour videos*
Regarding the season pass, most of the weapons and armors in the pass have pretty bad perks and stats. You claim those gears so you can farm them with the seasonal vendor, they just unlock more gears for you to farm. Most people buy the season pass for the seasonal story.
we're all a bunch of self aware zombies protecting the fallowers of the light!! I'm glad you're enjoying the game from a Destiny day 1 vet!!
I have played this game for 2 years, all up to 1000 something hours. THIS IS A WARNING. THIS IS YOUR VIDEOGAME NOW. YOU CANNOT ESCAPE
Ive got almost 5000 hours in this game & I'll have many more! Its a great game, especially with friends!
I always said Ikora is a boring character. People get mad at me for this but as a new player you confirmed it.
I am looking forward to your part 2
Feel free to reach out with questions, I know you will have a lot of them.
Glad to see even new players know how to be around the vanguard
6:08 lol ye i remember being a new light and being scared to go underground in the cosmodrone.
12:09 You’re going to have to change your stance on Cayde. He brought us all back when he died, game almost got shut down the year before. He’s also bringing us back for Final Shape. He’s our buddy, our mascot, and a true hero 🤩 You didn’t even walk it back when you later learned. While it was a you had to be there moment, you’ll put a lot of people off ✌️
I mean, he doesn't HAVE to change his stance. The game as it exists today does not give a player any reason to care, and that's Bungie's fault.
@@effortlessfury That’s an anecdotal fallacy. I’m plenty happy with the game. Those who aren’t have unrealistic expectations. Never forget, expectation is the root of all disappointment. Maybe it not Bungie’s fault, but thine own 🤔
@@SilverCyric did you play Forsaken when it was still in the game?
When he said he doesnt care for cayde, i shed a tear
fun fact, the introduction area to destiny 2 is a ported over copy from destiny 1.
You are supposed to fight the spider tank. But it also is a random public event. It just puts you into an instance where its about to start when you walk out to it.
This is interesting cause I love Warframe
But I tried destiny a while back and I honestly didn’t enjoy it after 15 or 20 hours of play.
Maybe I’ll try again, the intro is definitely different from mine, I remember the whole beginning being sooooo boring
Warframe is so much better
Bahha"that was the last time I saw my family " thats hilarious agreed!!
Fun fact: the guns in the season pass are given to you through the seasonal expansion far before you unlock them in the pass 😊
You gave me and my pals such a good laugh when you said MASTER RAHOOL SHOT CAYDE! That was great lmao, I loved this video, thanks for the enjoyment :)
Edit: Also, Welcome to Destiny Guardian 👍
Destiny 2: The Whale's Paradise
LOL. 4 years ago my sons were visiting me and were playing a new game DESTINY 2. THEIR ENTIRE VISIT THEY PLAYED THIS GAME. When they left I decided to “play around” …. That was 4 years ago and I’ve been playing everyday. I need help! LOO😂lll
free to play game
oh, you sweet summer child. run.
14:48 Don't worry man, falling off the tower is so common its referenced in lore. Have fun with your travels new light!
My favorite game of all time
I've been playing since D1. almost 10 years man. honestly probably over 10k hours of gameplay if you include waiting at the tower or in orbit...
Do not BUY the game at full price. wait for it to go on sale.
DO NOT order from their merch store, the customer service is atrocious.
DO NOT get into it if you have an addictive personality. they had lead scientists developed their gameplay patterns, loops, and reward system. (John Hopson)
The community is 50% chill and casual and the other 50% is sweaty, no-life try hards
The battle pass and in game currency system is literally criminal.
They will remove content you already paid for and continue to charge more for each expansion (seasonal sunsetting)
As a veteran player, If you have friends that play and you can afford it (in more ways than one) then for sure get the game and have fun
As a consumer I find their choices to be completely anti-consumer with the battle passes, EVENT battle passes, cosmetic bundles that are pay to win, and horrible un-dedicated servers, no core updates to Gambit and a limited space for you to put your gear.
This is just my personal opinion ty for reading this.😅
