Dr Karen Morton of Dr Morton's - the medical helpline - discusses Mirena Coil side effects.
She says that these are rare, and that it's a good IUD method of contraception for women. Women who have problems with hormonal treatments have no need to worry, despite negative media coverage about this topic. Don’t be put off by articles about weight gain and bleeding - side effects are rare.
Mirena Coil fitting and removal is also simple and quick, and a very reliable method of contraception. It especially appeals to women who'd like to use an intrauterine device, but who don’t like the idea that a traditional copper coil stops implantation rather than conception.

My side effects with the first time having Mirena was very bad vaginal itching during PMS, once it was removed after 4 years the itching disappeared . Last year I decided to inserted again and now I got very itchy eye allergy , acne , lower back and neck pain, constant spot bleeding , can’t loose weight, so I am removing it next week .

I had one put in Friday and I am so glad I did. It's didn't hurt at all, and my hope is that it will stop my heavy periods that I now have due to Perimenopause. One thing you should have mentioned is that it also can help to prevent uterine cancer.

When I become fertile once a month, my Mirena gives me frequent urinarion and a hormones like vaginal smell. I have just had my periodical ob controle, my pap and endovaginal. No infectation. Nothing wrong with my pap. It's something that I notice every month during that period of time. Could it be from the hormones that Mirena release from time to time?

I had my Mirena put in today. Its wasnt the coil. It was the one with hormones. I have 2 kids. For me it wasnt really painful. I felt pressure and 2 pinches. 1 when the applicator went in my cervix and one when mirena was released. I also felt pressure. A midwife at the obgyn did it. She had me cough right before insertion. I bled a good amount and had minor crampibg for about an hour. Wasnt really painful for me but im about to take a nap 😅

The mirena coil isn’t the end of pain at all. It’s the cause of pain. I had it put in on thursday as my endometriosis is out of control and triggering epilepsy. Don’t bother getting it.

Few side effects.. that’s absolutely rubbish.. I’ve had mine in for just a month I’ve put on 7lb my mood is awful, I’m bloated water retention & feel down .. I’m having mine out .. 3 months off this till it’s supposed to subside I’d probably be in deep depression by then ..
