    I posted it when I saw you other Baltimore video - but I have to say it again. Your work is outstanding. Please share what software you're using for post production. You are very talented.

      Looks like you figured out how to change the settings, because I can reply now. :-)
      Thank you again for the kind words. I know I replied via message, but in case anyone else sees this comment and wonders about your questions:
      For this video I used only Premiere Pro. I usually also use After Effects for lens distortion correction, but for this video I wanted to do a quick turnaround and get it online so people would be able to see it shortly after the storm, so I opted to skip some of my normal steps and go as quickly as possible.

      Awesome! I'm working on a Nashville video right now (not snow, just regular). It's all shot, and I'm editing right now, so please be on the lookout for that in the next few weeks.

    Nice footage. Are you familiar with Dirty Bird? He's got some really good footage from all around Baltimore using litchi. are you a professional drone company? I am in Baltimore and I am just starting my own UAV business. Wouldn't mind getting a few tips or pointers. Thanks :)

    BlueMantleMedia Hi, what settings did you put your GP4 on to film at night?

  • @voltvisual
    @voltvisual 9 лет назад

    hello , my name is mariano
    very good shots.... great job
    my question is
    that you captured in 4K settings so that images come out sharp
    ProTune used?
    sorry for my English, I'm from Argentina and my English is not very good

    • @BlueMantleFilms
      @BlueMantleFilms  9 лет назад

      Bacata Dub Thanks, I'm glad you like the video. I did use ProTune, yes, and the reason for 4K is that I have more options to work with afterward....if I want to zoom in on the image I can do that and still get a good-looking full HD image.
      Not a problem about your English...esta mucho mejor que mi español.

    Great video! I'm getting the h4-3d this week. Did you have any issues installing it?

    • @BlueMantleFilms
      @BlueMantleFilms  9 лет назад

      Thanks!
      The one issue I had was that the first gimbal I bought wasn't calibrated correctly so the horizon wasn't level. Thankfully I bought from a local dealer, so was able to exchange it the next day and not have to deal with the infamous DJI customer service.
      The actual installation didn't present any problems...went really easy switching out the H3-3D with the H4-3D. When I made my comparison video I switched them back and forth several times, actually.
      Do you already have a gimbal or are you starting new?

    • @mikeisi

      BlueMantleMedia
      Thanks. I actually been using the H3-2D gimbal since I've had a phantom at the beginning of 2014. So this should be hopefully a step up. Looking forward to a little smoother video.

      @BlueMantleFilms  9 лет назад

      ***** for upgrading from the H3-2D, I'd say you can expect significantly improved results. Admittedly I only started droning in July, so I started right off the bat with the H3-3D, but from what I've seen of the H3-2D, it really does make a significant difference. Let me know when you've posted some videos you shoot with the H4-3D. I'd like to see them.

    Great video! What protune settings did you have on?

    • @BlueMantleFilms
      @BlueMantleFilms  9 лет назад

      I did have it set to ProTune, but kept the GoPro color space. I think ProTune is too flat (I know it's supposed to be, but still) and I've found it's hard to add saturation back into the compressed footage of a GoPro without starting to see the compression artifacts. That being the case, after a few weeks of shooting in ProTune with the flat color, I switched to ProTune using GoPro color and I haven't gone back.
      I left the white balance on auto...more for the sake of getting the shots quickly. Long-term I think it'd be good to develop a workflow that includes setting the white balance to match the situation, but I haven't gotten into that habit yet. We all have our vices I guess. :-)
      For the night shots I limited the ISO to 1600 to make sure there wasn't too much noise. I tested 6400 and wasn't pleased with the results, but sticking at 1600 has worked for me.
      Not sure if there were other settings you were wondering about, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head.
      I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Just uploaded one of Nashville, did you get a chance to see that?

    • @nightfireproductions2722
      @nightfireproductions2722 9 лет назад

      I just saw the Nashville film and dude...incredible piece of work. The cinematography is gorgeous and the music perfect. I hope to one day film my town like that.
      Couple of questions: What software do you use? I usually shoot in 2.7K30 M and it crops really nicely in Adobe Premiere. I'm wondering if you use After Effects or any other plugins to make the video look as sharp.
      Lastly, what FPV would you recommend? I recently got my phantom 2 and looking into a FPV setup.
      Great work man and Iook forward to some more videos!

    • @BlueMantleFilms
      @BlueMantleFilms  9 лет назад

      Nightfire Productions
      Thanks!
      I shot in 2.7k when I was using the Hero3, but when I upgraded to the Hero4 I started shooting in 4K 30fps. I edit in Premiere in an 4K timeline, so that the master video can be as high of resolution as possible...even though I know most people will be watching the video in 1080p or even lower.
      I usually also use After Effects to correct the lens distortion of the GoPro...I didn't do it for this snow video because I was trying to get the video completed quickly.
      FPV: I've only used DJI AVL58. It has problems with cutting out sometimes, but it's been decent enough. I figure since I'm happy with the results I've gotten, it's not worth upgrading to a more expensive FPV setup.

    Nice video. Any issues with the authorities flying around Baltimore? I've been wanting to do this but have been sticking to the parks along the water in Anne Arundel county and the Naval Station in Annapolis. I asked the Navy police if I could fly on the Naval Station and they said yes but recommended I avoid flying over the Academy.

    • @BlueMantleFilms
      @BlueMantleFilms  9 лет назад +2

      No problems. When I was shooting my other Baltimore drone video I had a police officer come up to me while I was flying and I thought he was going to tell me to leave, but he was just curious about the drone, even asking where he could get one from. :-)
      It's ironic...I've ran into more opposition in Anne Arundel County parks than I have in Baltimore. And when I asked the Naval Academy if I could fly over it, as I expected they said no.

    What is Octavia? Since when are winter storms named?

    • @BlueMantleFilms
      @BlueMantleFilms  9 лет назад

      I didn't know the answer to your question at first, so looked it up. I guess it's ***** that names the winter storms, based off of criteria that indicates the storm will have significant impact on a large number of people.

      BlueMantleMedia Oh well that's silly, I didn't know the Weather Channel had the authority to do that. Great video though.

    • @BlueMantleFilms
      @BlueMantleFilms  9 лет назад

      ***** They certainly don't have the same authority as the NWS, but they say since they're a weather organization that functions nationally that it allows them to track and report on storms across the United States more easily.
      The reason I used it in the title of this video was so people who were searching for the storm by name on RUclips, Google, Facebook, and Twitter, would all potentially be able to find this video. I didn't realize until following up on your question that it wasn't an official name.
      Thanks for the words on the video. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • @gothaggis
    @gothaggis 9 лет назад

    please do not use the senseless storm names the weather channel uses.

    • @BlueMantleFilms
      @BlueMantleFilms  9 лет назад

      Why not? (That isn't a rhetorical question...I actually am curious why you don't want me to use the name).
      It seems a good way for people to be able to look up a video about the storm and find something relevant to what they're looking for.

    • @blacktoy123
      @blacktoy123 9 лет назад

      I for one don't like the Weather Channel since they continue to ignore Baltimore's existence and their primary focus seems to be Atlanta.
      They tend to suck up to the markets that they regard as important or is worth the ratings.
      Since they ignore us, I generally don't watch them unless there's an emergency storm and when they ignore us over the other nearby cities, I switch the channel.
