To understand the various perspectives, you can study mathematics...or you can read various autobiographies, meet new people, cultivate meaningful relationships and read great literature. In my opinion they both cultivate abstract thinking. Mathematics as well as what i just mentioned. Mathematics does it much more logically though. The other one, just intuitively.
Mathematics and computer sicence are the most imaginative art forms ever? This presentation was just sloppy. At one point, it seems like it was all an excuse to say "Hey, I think mathematics are awesome and I think you should agree with me". He basically forced a link between the ideas of empathy and mathematics. His ideas were all over the place: "If you take a number and represent it with lines, it's possible to create these cool images. That is a change in perspective, just like when we have empathy for other people, which is an awesome thing to have. Therefore, mathematics are super incredible (can I have my government funding now?)".
Simply Amazing

Nice perspective you are taking - Gregory Bateson & Arthur Koestler would have liked it a lot, and Gilles Fauconnier & Mark Turner, too.
Somebody should tell Boeing's designers of the 737Max about this.
