Midoriya's goal is to be a hero, being a hero is about saving people not winning a tournament, he didn't want to show himself good by beating 100% todoroki, he just wanted to help/save todoroki from his father even if it meant the end of the tournament for him

I fully belive that Deku would have hated it if he had won because he didn't get through to Todoroki

12:50 what's the final goal here? To be a hero right? He is saving Todoroki while trying his best to win. That's what a hero is, trying to win the fight while saving others.
Every character in this show has got it's to moment to be in limelight, so it's way too early to call a character favourite or hated.
We can see midoriya's right arm after the last hit was not broken. So, that raises the question did he put 100% in his right?? But it didn't break?

I think the fact Midoriya looses is what makes this fight so good to me ^^ First because at this point Midoriya clearly shoulodn't win against Shouto lol besides if Midoriya won he coudn't even have fought the finals with his condition lol xD

He saved Todoroki´s soul, it´s more important than winning, he is a hero to the core, always saving people. This episode was the one that hooked me to this story.
Midoriya wasn't trying to Just help him, he was trying to save him from his anger and resentment against his dad 😭 thats why I love this episode.
In the manga it's implied the burn is actually from frostbite. You can see her using ice on the burn in one panel. Essentially She realized what she had done after pouring the water on him and panicked, using her ice quirk to try and cool it down, giving him frostburns instead. It's a sad situation.
Idk if that’s true but it makes sense considering you’d think ‘Roki would be fire resistant on that side of his body

Endeavour is a number 2 hero for a reason, he can stomp both of them easily
Hmm he would've been hurt probably since it was a surprise attack. But I don't think they can beat Endeavor during this episode. He will beat the leaving shit out of them.

Yeah and imagine at that moment,to counterattack, Endeavour releases a full power prominance burn at them and sends them straight to the gulag
This fight is a testament to Midoriya's character, what does it mean to be a hero? Is it beating your opponent or saving someone who needs help?
To give context: Todoroki's mother didn't intentionally burn him. Endeavor was abusive, physically harming his wife and pushing Todoroki too far in his training from a young age, to the point that she became psychologically scarred and mentally unstable. She became frightened of anything resembling Endeavor, including the physical traits of their children. That's why she was sent to a mental hospital after the incident, and why Todoroki doesn't harbor any anger towards his mother and only Endeavor.

I don't blame todoroki's mom but when Suzy was calling her "bitchy" I don't like that basically endeavors the one to blame.
@@Frankie_Uzumaki the mum is 100% to blame, you don't physically harm your own child regardless of what she went through, there is zero excuse for it.
the whole thing is ridiculous and not how it works in the real world, it's a cartoon. if it was real life the mother is 100% to blame and would be in prison for a long time.
todoroki is no ordinary child, he wasn't just abused, the whole reason he even exists is because endeavor wanted the perfect quirk for his child to surpass all might, todoroki is an experiment and endeavor basically married and made his wife have so many kids, for her quirk.
A redeeming fact about endeavor since his wife doesn't completely resent him is that he probably built a relationship with her... albeit she was forced into it. All I'm saying is that prior to todorokis training she at least liked him and it was endeavors manic side that tried to surpass all-might that put a rift between them... is my interpretation from reading the manga. Oh and one more incident it seems but spoilers

I still don't understand why everybody was just complimenting todoroki in this fight. Yeah he won but like nobody realize that izuku was like flicking those ice spikes? One of the only people who recognized how powerful both of them are was cementos.
@@blazing5634 But Midoriya had no control over his power that's why it was overlooked, his powers were good, his abilities were good but of he has not got control of his quirk why would someone want to praise him

@@xmant8842 ofc midoriya, todoroki is so strong with both of his quirk, but deku is more powerful with OFA and also he's so smart with strategy, deku's move is also more flexible than todoroki.
The point in the show is to be a hero, midoriya saving todoroki is the true essence of that

What I am disappointed in, is everyone always missing that it wasn't even about using 100% of his power. Midoriya may have lost the match, but he won something far more important.
I think one of the main reasons Midoriya was trying to get Todo to use his fire, wasn't because he wanted a fair fight, he wanted Todo to realize that he is allowed to be his own person. Midoriya was being kind as always, even if it meant he was sure to lose the match.
Midorya was trying to help him to free him from his past, because deku is a future super hero
It wasn't just about Midorya wanting to fight Todoroki at his 100%. It was his heroic spirit reaching out to Todoroki's heart and trying to save it from his own darkness.
This shows Dekus character. His goal.was winning the tournament and showing the world he has arrived. But he saw todoroki thought of half his quirk as his father's and was hurting because of it and in "the heat" of the moment Deku wanted to save him from that. That instinct is the exact reason Allmight chose him and it's the true essence of a hero. Deku is interesting because he has the mindset and the power to be the strongest hero but his body cant use it yet, so he needs to figure his way out of certain situations but he won't compromise that will to save people.
"How do you have sex with someone who is always on fire?" ... the ED of the fourth season answers that question, and the last episodes of the fourth season brings that answer to the surface.
It’s more like Midoria’s nature to save people, both mentally and physically. So it’s not for proper fight, but to save Todoroki.😇🙃
So you can consider Midoria the winner in that sense.✊🏼

It's still kind of her fault tho.. Sure she had a crappy life and lost it but she still literally poured boiling water on her child.
Yeah and also the scar isnt form the water its form her using her quirk to cool the skin down. She poured the water.... realised what she had done, tried to help todoroki but it ended up causing him that scar.
She still chose to use her ice power on Todoroki's face after holding him down and burning him.
tunderdiamant she wasn’t thinking straight, in the manga it shows she regretted it and tried to put it out with her quirk which is what caused a frost burn or something like that

I wouldn't say his goal was to have todoroki fight with all of his strength but rather he wanted to save him from his sadness and how he rejects half of his own abilities. 😅
It was about saving young Todoroki from his own demons. He succeeded in his goal. Winning was optional.
Meddling when you dont need to, is the essence of being a hero^^ Its always true for midoriya, his heart is that of a true hero and always has been :)

you trying to justify a mother pouring boiling water on her child is the most ridiculous thing i have read, there is zero excuse for physically harming your child, no matter how abusive her partner was. the mum would be locked away in prison for a long time regardless of what she went through if this was the real world. i think the kids in these comments seem to forget this is an exaggerated scripted fictional cartoon lmao.
am i the only one that happy when midoriya loses?...haha...idk sometimes i get sick when the mc always win and when they loses it always feel so satisfying..haha...i mean, i love midoriya but i cant help it...it felt so satisfying seeing him lose..
Todoroki’s mum is not a bad person. She was so emotionally and mentally beaten down from Endeavor’s abuse that the incident with the boiling water was an accident and she was completely unable to think rationally in that moment. She was devastated by what she did.
yeah it's a scripted cartoon, because is the real world there is zero excuse for physically harming your own child. regardless of what she went through. the mum would be locked away for years for pouring boiling water on her childs face. todoroki's mum did one of the worst things a parent can do and that's physically scarring your own child, i don't care what she went through, it was her fault for staying in an abusive relationship and not putting her kids first, but like i said it's a scripted cartoon.
A true hero doesn't fight to win, a hero fights to protect the good and better themselves.

you need to understand, there are people like midoriya who put someone else before them even if it's bad for them, you probably never did it before....that's why you would never undersatand
It wasn’t actually the boiling water that gave him the scar. Shoto’s mother froze that part of his face in a panic. Putting ice on a part where there’s hot water is what gives you scars
what boiling water for sure gives you scars whethere you use ice or not.
Yep, a freeze burn, that's why you should never pour ice water on a scalding, always use room temperature water!!
beka Betsunaidze shoto has fire control and that allowed for him to not get hurt by the water. His mother ,unintentionally, freezing his face, causing the freeze burn, is what caused the scar

she had a psychological and emotional breakdown from all the abuse she got from Endeavor. that's why it happened. Trauma does things to people.....it's not that she didnt want to. she said she couldn't raise him. she was implying she felt she might hurt him. in which case in the end she did.
EDIT: you seemed really down and disappointed at the end. i feel ya. but no worries. it turns around for him later and gets a lot better. i really look for ward to seeing you watch season 3 and ESPECIALLY season 4......my god i think season might actually break your brain a lil bit xD
It's not just "Midoriya wanted Todoroki to use his 100% to have a real fight between equals", Midoriya wanted to save Todoroki from his past, his father, because that's what a hero does. Even All Might said that.

But Midoriya isn’t that way, for him the focus was to safe Todoroki, to free him from his past and to free him from the terror his father gave him.
No matter how many times I've seen this episode, I always get chills and drop a tear of emotion, never watched the dub before though, they really did great

todoroki's mother, rei, was mentally unstable and pushed to her breaking point from endeavor's abuse. seeing something that even just *looked* like endeavor triggered a fight or flight reflex so intense that it caused her to (without thinking bc she was panicking) lash out at whatever had triggered this, which, unfortunately, was shouto. she immediately realized what she had done, broke down, and tried to help him. shes not winning any "parent of the year" awards, but shes not a horrible person either. i dont want to be rude but how do you miss the point of "endeavor abused his wife so badly and caused her to become so unstable that even seeing the resemblance in her son causes her to break" THAT BADLY.

In the long run it didn't matter who won this battle, Midoriya was being a hero helping Todoroki, he didn't care about actually winning this fight, he wanted Todoroki to realize that it didn't matter who his father was, that the power he has is his and no one else's.
he won by saving Todoroki. That is just how Deku does his thing - wins by saving people.
you don't know what deku was up to if that is why you think he got todoroki to use his fire it was becaue deku is a hero and a hero like what deku want's to be is one that gets involed with everything

I think All Might had the most on point take, figures as Midoriya is just like All Might :) Above all he wants to save people, winning is important but he just can't help himself and try to save others. He was one of the few who noticed Shoto's deep suffering and as the fight progressed he felt his pain more and more and eventually just couldn't bear it no more and shouted at Shoto in a desperate attempt to free him from pain. It worked but it cost him the match

Ya know, todoroki' real power comes out when he uses both his sides in succession. Its like...using too much ice gives him frostbite(it lowers his body temperature dangerously) and using too much fire threatens to do the opposite. So giving a break to one side and using another can counter the sideeffects of other side. Fore example if his right side gets frozen due to excessive use of ice, he can just use his left side for some time and in the meanwhile his other side will get thawed out and body temperature regulated, thanks to using flames.

Great scene and all. and no matter the outcome. What "triggers" me is that they declared a winner after outside interferance. Where Deku is more of a power type and Todoroki mainly uses elemental forces, the Cement walls would seemingly be more of a hinder for Deku since he would have to power through the walls while Todorokis pressure would continue to grow untill he got there. Just seems like cheating, correct me if im wrong.
Please go back and watch more of Sword Art Online. I think you’ll really like it and I know for sure we’ll love it!
The students can get very excited and competitive to use their quirks and they may hurt each other to win the festival and get trained to become better heroes but they definitely would not kill each other or hurt each other to the point for them to live without a possibility to recover ......... they are not villains also they have teachers on professional hero levels who will use their quirks to prevent big accidents and protect them from harm

(Deku ) helped (Todoroki ) because he is a true selfless hero , because (Todoroki ) deserve to be proud of his quirk and everything he can achieve and because his opponents deserve respect no matter if he agree with them or not
