Thanks for the great tutorial! My fiancé and I just found these at Target for $35! Huge post-holiday discount. For that price it’s a no brainer. Side note: Adam Savage did a teardown video for Lola on his Tested channel and the mechanics are honestly just astounding. Amazing feat of toy engineering - check it out if you haven’t already! Happy crafting y’all
Super cool. I saw that my Walmart has the "toy" version on clearance. Half tempted to snag one and see how it "grimes up". Thanks for showing off your technique.
5:28 - Believe me, making something look rough is insanely nerve wracking the first time you do it. I did a voyage on the Starcruiser where I was a mechanic with this jumpsuit. I got a great looking menchaics overalls, put star wars badges and greeblies on it and spent a great deal of time getting it looking JUUUUUUST right. And then I got to destroy it! Its a mechanic jumpsuit! If it were prestine, it wouldnt look right. So I wore the fabric around the buttons with sandpaper, I took a lighter to a couple of flaps and zippers, and splattered it with acrylic paint. Hardest thing I ever did, but it looks GREAT!
Bro, this was an awesome tutorial. Never even heard of that "Rub n Buff". I have this droid as well and the Yellow colored BD-1. Both could use a little TLC weathering.
I'm starting to get into weathering props and I've always been weird about starting a project. This video was great and I feel like I can do it properly now. Thank you!
Awesome Job my friend 👏 I weather all my Star Wars and other things, think it looks way better than the clean look 👍 you done a great Job 👍 Subbed and liked my freind 😁
Wow! Huge difference. I think I'm going to try this. I bought 2... one for the wife and one for me. I want mine more of an Imperial Looking droid however... what would you use to paint the red to say a dark gray color instead? Spray paint then some sort of top coat? Thanks for any thoughts.
Yeah just mask the white with painter’s tape and a regular rattle can should do the trick. I always hit anything I spray paint with light “wet sanding” to give it a slight metallic shine
@@StarWarsReplicas Thanks for the response. As I'm new to this, do you do the wet sanding prior to the spray painting, or after? Would you use 800 grit, and literally just wet and gently rub down the red ring, which I want to turn to either gray or black? Thanks again!
I really like what you did with Rub ‘n Buff under the wings. Do you have any ideas on how to muffle the clicking sounds that they make? The clicking drives me crazy.
Thanks for this! One thing, I read up on rub n buff, and it's supposed to be permanent. You mention it comes right off, so I'm hesitant to use it. If I apply it, I wouldn't want it to come off when people touch it. You said chlorox wipes take it right off, just wanted to verify
I want to do this so bad but mine jammed after awhile and stopped working. Im sending it back for a replacement but now im scared to risk putting this much work into it with the possibility to just break again on me
Muy buen video tutorial !!!!!! felicidades por tu coleccion Star Wars .... Pero me ha faltado ver en el video como envejeces los pies del droide!! Un Saludo desde España!! Espero tu respuesta!
Don't give Hasbro any more ideas please...they'll release Lola's repaint and sell it even more expensive. hahahaha. ....and there will be no shortage of stupid people who buy it again for that reason...hahahaha.
I live in Poland and I used PENTART Wax Paste. The effect is amazing. Brilliant guide. Thank you 😊
This thing remind me of the robots in a film called "Batteries not Included".
To me Lola reminds me of Webo from the movie Disney's Flubber
Yup first thing i thought. Heavly inspired from batteries not included i think

I loved the idea of the wet sanding. Very useful tip. Thank you for sharing.
A little dish soap in your wash really helps it run and find the cracks on its own.
Nicely done, Gabe! Very enjoyable & confidence-inspiring because you're a great teacher

I've never weathered anything before, but I almost feel like doing this to mine. Makes it look SO much more realistic!

Gabe, Thank you! We will be doing this to ours when it arrives! Love videos like this showing your process of how you like to weather!

Awesome where did you buy the Signature Plaque
I just picked up my preorder and I might try some of these techniques to give it a level of authenticity. Thanks.
just bought one of these, im going to give this a go!... Never done this sort of stuff before, but you have inspired me!
Incredible work! Thank you for this. I'll definitely be giving this a shot, soon.

I’m glad the video helped!
I found this my accident but I totally dry brushed mine as soon as I got it 😂 glad Im not the only one
great custom, one question: did you use a clear coating? i am planning on doing this myself and wanted to know whether you did this?
wow its just how i was pretending to paint mine.absolutly need for such an amazing toy. now that i have done mine its realy the peace i should be

The droid is great, I got mine for Amazon on a steep discount.
Very awesome! Great work!
Where do you get the silver and gold paint but I am scared of messing up the black paint too much so I don’t think I’d do it yet 😅

@@bobafett4ever after spray painting I usually do a very light wet sanding. 800-1000 grit should be good 👍🏼
So helpful! Thank you 😊
Looks amazing. 👍
Amazing work 👏

Idk if it’ll work but imma like the corners with felt.
Love this!! Did you use the Antique Gold Rub n Buff paint? (I saw there was also a color called Gold Leaf)
Thank you! I used gold leaf on this one!
Do you use a clear coat or something when you’re done to make sure the weathering doesn’t get rubbed off?
Thanks for this! One thing, I read up on rub n buff, and it's supposed to be permanent. You mention it comes right off, so I'm hesitant to use it. If I apply it, I wouldn't want it to come off when people touch it. You said chlorox wipes take it right off, just wanted to verify
It can be permanent if you really get in there and heat it up with friction. But it’s a wax so ultimately a solvent like alcohol will remove it
Literally just got mine delivered a few minutes ago, I'm a weathering novice, as in never weathered anything. But thinking of trying it on this.
Let me know how it goes if you do!
Wow you're skilled
Where can i get good reference photos of lola from?

Where can you get that rub and buff stuff
Dude good job
Thanks for sharing these tips
Just throw it in the dirt, no need to do all these tough stuff.
