      Hi Thomas, Thanks for sharing the longevity of your E8. That's an excellent run. Any guess as to how many drinks you made in those 16 years? We get regular owner reports of >15,000 brew cycles with nothing more than routine maintenance for both Jura and Gaggia machines.

    Does the app work with milk drinks? It looks like you have to be at the machine to start/stop the milk (?). What Jura machine would not require that extra step with the milk?

    If you drink espresso mostly, would you recommend this machine or the gaggia magenta?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 года назад

      Hi Kara, Thanks for the question. If you drink mostly espresso I'd go with the Magenta Plus: www.wholelattelove.com/products/gaggia-magenta-plus-super-automatic-espresso-machine
      The Magenta has more flexibility and is a newer design than the E6 - also costs a lot less even if you go for the Magenta Prestige which has the attachable milk carafe for 1 touch drinks. You'll have more dosing range on the Magentas. If you select a double espresso on the Magenta it will do 2 grind cycles yielding a ground coffee dose of up to 23g at max strength setting. Select a double espresso on the E6 and the machine does just one grind cycle with a max ground coffee dose of 16g. Typical double espresso these days is made using 18g. Beyond that the Magentas do a true one touch Americano. A drink many espresso lovers (and former filter coffee folks) enjoy for larger cups which retains the basic flavor characteristics of an espresso. Hope that helps!

    So he used the same beans to make both a cappuccino and a regular coffee- what is he using- espresso beans or a medium/dark roast?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  Год назад +1

      Hi sf, Any beans can be used for any brew method. When you purchase beans some may be labeled espresso - that's just a suggestion. Beans labeled espresso most often consist of (especially Italian style) a bean blend containing some amount of Robusta beans along with Arabica. Also tend to be at a medium or darker roast level. But that's changed in the last decade or so with the rise of 3rd wave specialty coffee. Higher end specialty cafes often feature lighter roasted single origin (not bean blends) coffees for espresso.

    I like hot coffee temperature. Are such machines good at producing high temperatures

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  5 лет назад +8

      Hi KS, Thanks for the question. Jura machines produce a hot cup. Internally they brew at 195-205F (90.5-96C). As the espresso/coffee travels to the cup it does cool. I understand some are seeking the hottest cup possible. Do know that professional tasters and roasters prefer tasting at much cooler temps typically in the 130-150F (54-66C). It’s near impossible to detect flavors in very hot or very cold beverages. One reason why poor quality coffee is served very hot and poor quality beer/wine is served cold. The closer a beverage is to body temp the easier it is to detect flavors.

      Hi LV, depends on if you're going into espresso based beverages as a hobbyist or looking for convenience. Semi-auto machines like the Profitec GO are a much more hands on experience and for a semi-auto you'll want a decent espresso focused grinder as well. If seeking convenience, then look to a super-auto bean to cup like the Jura or Gaggia. I'm partial to the Gaggia Cadorna on a features/value comparison versus the Jura. But check it out for yourself in my videos:

    Hi Marc love this channel, and your reviews are a huge help. I'm trying to understand if brewing 2 espresso or 2 coffee simultaneously results in weaker strength. I read somewhere that the Jura won't double the amount of coffee ground, and only doubles the water used. I imagine that would make it rather weak. any idea? thanks!

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  Год назад +1

      Hi CT, Thanks for the kind comment. That is true for many Jura machines - a single grind cycle is used when 2 cups are selected. You might take a look at Gaggia machines. They all use 2 grind cycles when 2 cups are selected. The latest Gaggia Accademia is an incredibly good machine! Beautiful touch screen interface, Coffee boost function which adds a sweet ristretto using a second grind cycle, flow control and a whole latte more! I have a Jura E6. I have my espresso programmed for 2 oz and full bean strength. When I press it twice for 2 drinks, I’m getting the same one puck in the coffee collector bin as usual, but I’m getting 2 drinks, each 2 oz. So I’m basically getting the same amount of espresso but with more water to make up the two drinks? There is only one portafiller inside and one tamper? So if I want two full strength espressos, I should make the 2 drinks separately? Thanks so much.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 года назад

      Hi CS, When you select 2 drinks the Jura increase the amount of coffee ground for those compared to the single so you should be seeing a larger puck of used coffee.

    Can you confirm the settings for cappuccino please- is it still 1.5oz or more?
    Let’s say we are used to buying Venti size cappuccinos from Starbucks… that’s an enormous cup… how do we achieve the same amount of volume with this Jura? And if we do double shot, do we set it at 1.5oz and just run extra shot? Or 3.0oz?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  Год назад

      Hi sf, You can reprogram espresso volume to what you desire. The E6 will not do a second grind cycle for the extra espresso so it's more water through same amount of coffee. You could do an extra shot manually for extra large drinks. Or, there's a machine like the Gaggia Accademia which will do an extra grind cycle for milk drinks using the Boost function. The Accademia does have an XL cappuccino on the menu which can do a max of 3.4oz of espresso. If you use boost for that it will grind approx 23 grams of coffee split in 2 grind cycles. 23 grams is considered a triple shot. Milk for the XL capp can be set up to 10.3oz for total drink size of nearly 14oz. The Accademia is more expensive than the E6 but an excellent machine! It makes the best espresso I've ever had from an automatic machine and has an excellent user interface. Plus you can adjust/program the milk froth density to one of 4 levels on a per drink basis. Check it out in this video: ruclips.net/video/jZWS38_Jge4/видео.html

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 года назад

      @@yohvh Jura introduced PEP brewing (pulse extraction process) a few years back which is used for espresso/espresso containing drinks only and not larger coffees. To my taste the espresso made with PEP is better. It slows down the extraction and extracts more flavor. As a side benefit, one can get a good espresso and longer coffee without changing grind size. Without PEP you'd want grind set finer if drinking mostly espresso based beverages and coarser if doing mostly longer coffees.

    When programming for a cappuccino with the Jura E6, if I choose a volume of up to 2.5 ounces, I will get espresso using the PEP. Correct? But if I use a higher volume of water, 3 or more ounces, the coffee will not be PEP espresso; instead, it will be the regular coffee. Correct? I don’t believe espresso can be pumped with more than 2.5 ounces of water. Am I correct? Thanks.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 года назад +2

      Hey Ashley, You are welcome for the video. And thanks for the question! Although the packaging of beans from some roasters may lead you to believe otherwise, the truth is there's no such thing as espresso beans. You can make any type of coffee or coffee beverage from any type of bean. So, there's no need to buy separate beans for espresso. That said, there are bean types which are more commonly used for espresso. Classic Italian style bean blends are a good example and beans like Lavazza Super Crema are a good example. Lately I've been drinking a lot of our very own Crema Wave. It's a modern take on the Italian blend. It uses a specialty grade beans in the blend - something you do not get from the majority of beans roasted in Italy. I use the Crema Wave to make espresso, flat whites and Americanos and enjoy it in all 3. Check it out here: www.wholelattelove.com/products/whole-latte-love-crema-wave-whole-bean-espresso

    One more PEP question. In milk based drinks, if I set the volume higher than 2.5 ounces, say, 4 ounces for example for my cappacino, then the coffee in that cappacino will just be regular coffee. In order to get espresso in a milk based drink, I must program the volume to 2.5 ounces or less. Is that correct? Please explain.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 года назад +1

      Hi CS, Program volumes of espresso or coffee has no affect on using PEP. Use of PEP is determined by the drink being made. Espresso and milk-based espresso beverages always use PEP. Coffee does not use PEP brewing.

      Hi e, Trying some of my favorite beans? It's kind of a pain on the E6. I'd get out what you can by hand. It has that finger protection grate in the hopper which blocks. That can be removed with a star drive tipped screw driver and you can get more out. Other than that I often use a powerful vacuum to suck beans from hoppers - of course you're sacrificing those. Enjoy the Orphea!

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  Год назад

      Hi Kc, The E6 does not have a latte option. The machine only makes milk drinks with milk froth prepared first and then the espresso. That's a cappuccino prep order. For latte you want a machine that does espresso first then milk. Heads up, it's rare to find a drink labeled a "latte" on these machines. That's because in Italian latte translates to milk. There are a few machines which have a drink labeled "caffe latte". Those machines tend to run a lot more $$. But if you want what we call a latte in North America look for machine which does a latte macchiato or flat white. Machines that make those have the capability to switch prep order of espresso and milk depending on the drink being made. The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige can flip prep order, has a much nicer user interface than the Jura and a much nicer price: www.wholelattelove.com/collections/super-automatic-espresso-machines/products/gaggia-cadorna-prestige

I use a Jura ENA Micro 90 daily at home for regular coffee and it uses the same brewing process as this machine. Brewing into a typical 8oz ceramic coffee cup the temp is just right for me. Not burn your tongue hot and not chuggable warm . I understand some want a really hot coffee and that's not me. Can't taste the coffee when it's that hot.

      @@Wholelattelovepage Thanks for the reply, yes, I understand it is hard to define what is hot enough for some people and not others. I just like to start with it pretty hot as it does cool down fairly quickly so if I could hit 170F to start that would be great for a few sips and then more drinkable a bit lower temp. Speaking of the Jura ENA Micro 90, will it or the Jura E6, allow me to brew a 8-10oz cup of coffee and use approx. 18 grams of coffee? That is about the ratio I now use with pour over.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  Год назад

      Hi rp, The type of milk used can change froth quality a bit. We prefer whole fat milk for creamy texture but most milks including non-dairy should produce a froth. Frothing performance can degrade if frothing components are not kept clean or are assembled incorrectly.

      Hey James, Thanks for the question. The Jura E6 does not have a one touch flat white on the menu but you can make one manually in 2 steps. First, Make a double espresso of ~2oz/60ml. Hi Stella, The coffee strength setting controls a ground coffee dose range of 5 - 16 grams. So set at the lowest strength setting the machine will grind about 5g.
