When to bring a back up turkey...Family decides to go to Aunt Dee's who cannot cook. She serves a 40 lb while turkey, still frozen and stuffed with guacamole. Gonna need that back up turkey.
Happy Thanksgiving. I just watched a video you made 3 years ago and thought wow y'all talk like I do, I'm originally from Tennessee. Love to listen to you talking and thought I have to check out your channel. Your family is like mine up till early 90s till when momma passed away and everything changed, our glue was gone. Make sure you tell everyone that you love them, and share the Love because Love is the glue that holds everything together in our Universe. I've said that for years. I will share your channel and subscribe to help your channel grow. Also, I wish y'all a very Merry Country Christmas. I truly miss the old days and still have to play Elvis Presley Christmas music every year just like my momma did back in the 70s. Love y'all and stay positive.
This takes me back to being a child in the Appalachia area of Kentucky in the 1950's. Mamaw and Papaw didn't have electricity . Mamaw would cook the dried apples and add the spices. She rolled out the layers that had sorghum in them and bake them in her kitchen stove that used wood. The house smelled like old timey Christmas. She put the layers and apple mixture together. She put the stack cake in a large tin lard can and let it marinate for 2 days, and it was wonderful. That was a Christmas tradition and it was looked forward to and always enjoyed. Thank you for the video Tipper, and was so loving of you to made this for Granny. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. ❤ 🙏
Tipper, As a young girl I would stand while my grandmother made layer after layer for her applesauce cake & that batter was soo good. She had gifted hands in the kitchen & at her sewing machine. TY fo sharing this video... you are a gift to us too. God Bless.
If we happened to be visiting our Grandparents in Tennessee, at the right time of the year, as youngsters we got to being in charge of overseeing the outside table where the apple slices were drying out. Good memories. I especially loved the fried pies.
My precious Mother always made apple stack cakes.. and I can honestly state.. I never tried them one time. 😔 I was a butterscotch, chocolate fudge girl.. she made at least 5 desserts for 22 of us. The bouquets look pretty but Tipper you have to add water then fill them up (a teaspoon of sugar) helps too. Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Good seeing you and Katie baking together. You’re teaching her the tradition of making the Apple Stack Cake. Building memories together. The cake turned out so pretty and I have no doubt it’s going to be delicious! All your arrangements look lovely!
I bake my applesauce cake as one big layer, patted out in my biscuit pan. After it bakes and cools I trim off the crusty edges and cut the cake into 4 rectangle layers.
Matt and Tipper... Y'all both must to be so proud of Cory and Katie for.helping and learning, and most of all, continuing the old ways in their lives. Praise be. Happy Thanksgiving to you all! 🦃 Hugs 🤗 and God bless 🙏
Tipper, you are so right about the difference in flavor between applesauce and reconstituted dried apples. Your cake will be specially delicious. No other way to get that flavor.
I’ve lived in Appalachia all my life and heard about this classic dessert, but this year was my first time actually trying it-and it was a huge success! I used my Mama’s recipe, which is similar to yours, but since she’s known to leave out a step or two in her handwritten recipes, your RUclips video was such a lifesaver. I thought about pairing it with the custard you mentioned but decided to stick with my Mama’s buttermilk sauce, and it turned out absolutely divine. Thank you for sharing your recipe and tips!
Beautiful flower arrangement! Almost as beautiful as your family! You’re all so loving and kind to one another! So wonderful you’re making apple cake, Granny’s request 💝
Happy Thanksgiving to you all. We went to my Aunt Fanny and Uncle Lum’s house until he passed away and she got too old to live on her own. I miss those times. I know you will be sharing stories, music and great food. God Bless you All! 🙏
Happy Thanksgiving Pressley family! Nice job on the cake and with the floral arrangements. So many things that I'm incredibly thankful for. At the top of that list is Jesus and His goodness and faithfulness. But also thankful for family and friends. And the Pressley, Graddick, and Wilson families are all part of that list. So thank you for sharing your lives with us and allowing us to be part of your extended community.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your beautiful family! I’ve watched you all for almost 2 years. I’m thankful for all I have learned from you all. I really enjoy Katie and Corey’s devotions I could listen to Corey all day. ❤️🙏
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Your arrangements you made from everything from the outdoors were so pretty Tipper. You have a talent there for sure. Enjoy watching you and Corey making the apple stack cake. Yum. Looks delicious.
Happy Thanksgiving. Some of my favorite fall memories as a child was helping my aunt make stack cakes. She however made chunky applebutter for hers. They are delicious. I bet vanilla ice cream would be yummy with it.❤❤❤❤❤
Happy thanksgiving Tipper and Matt and Austin Corie and Katie and those sweet boys love ya all the cake looked delicious I know that will be a hit❤️ Shelby
I counted 15 cups dried apples, but with the generous cups it was more like 17 or 18! I would use a large batter bowl with the cup markings for this much--they have 8 cups (2 qt. bowl), because I can never keep track especially if I'm talking! I do that when making Chex mix with all the cereal. It might be easier to roll the dough out on the parchment and you won't have to pick it up. Just move paper and all onto the pan and bake.
The flower arrangements are lovely….Granny made apple stack cakes when I was young. I didn’t appreciate all the work that goes into making them until I got older. Happy Thanksgiving 🍁🍂
We had a wonderful day with my family! Tomorrow we’ll be with my husband’s family! Your cake looks delicious! I love your floral arrangements! I decorated with my crocheted pumpkins! Love your sweet family! God bless y’all! 😀♥️🙏
Happy Thanksgiving. My mother made apple stack cakes while I was growing up. She used her homade apple butter instead of dried apples. They were delicious. We are from eastern Kentucky.
Hi Tipper, I do mine a little different, try this, instead of rolling the dough what i do is divide it in 7 or 8 pieces, then pat each one into a 9 inch layer cake pan, I usually can bake 3 at a time, then repeat, its much easier than trying to roll it out.
We have our "Thanksgiving " on Saturday. We started several years ago with having it on Saturday because several of us worked in retail.(Black Friday) lol It has become a traditional celebration that friends and family know they can stop by and share in our bountiful feast or play games or just visit. This year we are expecting around 40 people. We are playing Rummycube, euchre, go fish, and whatever games people come up with. And so much food.
@celebratingappalachia I was listening as I'm prepping for our Thanksgivong on Sunday, but I had to stop when I heard you say "dried apples." It's been forever since i saw a cake using dried apples but it was my daddy's favorite and that's what he asked for on his birthday each year. (Jan 2nd). He was born in 1919 and grew up the kind of poor that people today dont understand. Mom's layers were thin and not highly flavored like yours...., but more like shortcake than cookies. But they dried apples in the sun every year, and she stacked five or six layers with spiced dried apples in between. She left the sides visible like you do. I think it's so beautiful and it made me cry to see it. My people were in Southern Kentucky, where Lake Cumberland is now. Thank you fir sharing this and all you do to help us remember.
Tipper, I hosted thanksgiving for the first time yesterday. Among other things, I made ahead the oatmeal roll recipe you shared last year. Took them out to defrost and rise in the morning and baked them up hot and fresh right before the meal. They were a big hit. Thank you. I hope your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Blessings to you and yours.
I've had the stack cake one time. Someone else made it and it was delicious! The arrangements were lovely. Thanks again for sharing and have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family. Matt had a spurt of sweetness and brought you some corn bread with butter.
Happy America 🇺🇸 Thanksgiving. I hope to meet and exchange the American thanksgiving in person. Love to experience the difference from us Canadians 🙌🇨🇦🙌🇺🇸✝️🇺🇸✝️🇨🇦🙌🇺🇸🇨🇦
Tipper, your apple stack cake looks so delicious! 😋 It was so sweet watching Katie helping you make the cake. 💕 Granny will be so happy that you and Katie made the cake for her and your family to enjoy. 😊 Your flower arrangements were lovely. 💐 Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your family! Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you for sharing with us today Tipper. I was making spiced apples today, but for an apple raisin crisp. The spices smell so divine.😊🦃🥧🕊️ I'll be tuning back in on Sunday. Bon appetit ❤
Happy Thanksgiving! We won't have ours until Saturday, then it will be ALL my children & grandchildren! We had one of our grandsons overnight and took him out to eat at a restaurant today. It was fun. Family reunion tomorrow night. I will be all cooked out when all is said and done! Your fall arrangements are beautiful! I like things like that, too. I like to also use dried grasses, weeds, teasels, and red berries or rose hips. Not sure if I could find anything with leaves on it now.
Thankful for you and your family, Tipper!! Most of all Thankful for Jesus who paid our debt so that we can spend eternity with Him!! Hope you have an amazing Thanksgiving with your sweet family!!
