Actually the idea came to the mind of Mehmood. This is the Street Ballet. This type of song & dance was there in a film - West Side Story" - Natali Wood & Richard Beymer was the starrer. Dir. Robert Wise. Classic movie , in my School days I watched this movie not less than 5 times in 1963 or' '64 probably . Mehmood was so obsessed about this & expressed his wish to RDBurman. Panchamda was delighted . He composed it next day but only Kishore is suitable for this song & Kishoreda immediately accepted it for a totally new of music. But he requested Panchamda for slight change in Antara & RD accepted it & we listen this unforgettable classic even today with same attention & mind. What a great people were they!
