I am looking forward to seeing the first of Jodie's episodes. Now that we have a female Doctor for the first time I hope that in the future the role will go to the best actor who is both available and willing irrespective of gender, colour or age.
Paulafan5 The quick answer would be no but I will attempt to give a more detailed answer. In the case of Wonder Woman being female in a integral and essential part to he character (the name is a bit of a clue for a start). As member of the Amazon race who are all female and being brought up on an island on which no man is allowed to set foot it would make no sense at all for Wonder Woman to be male. When it comes to other characters I can see more room for experimantation when they have a literary origin. There have been discussions of a 'Jane Bond' and a female Sherlock Holmes and in some presentation of Shakespeare's plays genders have been altered, so you may have a Queen Lear or Hamlet, Princess of Denmark. In all these cases I would be interested in the possibilities because the original charaters remain untouched. By this I mean the original works, i.e. the novels of Ian Flemming, the stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the plays of Shakespear remain unchanged and available for everyone to revisit. I would view a tv show with a female Sherlock Holmes in the same way I approached the Benedict Cumberbach Sherlock which moved Holmes in to the present day as an interesting experiment and would I hope judge it with an open mind. When it comes to Doctor Who there is of course no ilterary source to be revisited, the tv show is the only source. At the start back in 1963 we only knew that the Doctor was male and was an alien. A viewer would assume that this would remain constant. I would say that when the first regeneration occured then that assumption was altered, yes the Doctor was an alien but now he was an alien who could change his body and nothing said those changes had to produce another male. Later when Michelle Gomez did such a brillaint job of playing a female master it set the stage for Jodie to be the first female Doctor. As I said I am looking forward to her first series.
Paulafan5 theres a difference. Wonder Woman is a woman. She doesnt change. She is who she is. And the fact that she’s a woman is arguably an important part of her. The Doctor’s gender is irrelevant. The Doctor changes
I am fine with a female Doctor, but i don`t think it was a need for it. I would be just as fine with a male Doctor as i am with a female Doctor. I guess you could say that i don`t really care what gender the Doctor is as long as the actor or actress who plays the Doctor is the right choice for the role and i think Jodie is the right choice.
If not now, when? Every time a female Doctor was introduced, you would have said the same thing. I too would be just as happy with a new male Doctor. But now ... when Jodie's had enough ... they will double their talent pool for the auditions next time. All of the modern Doctors have been superb though ... but we could now have terrific females in the running with terrific males. Now that it's clear that the Doctor was simply hitting "Man" 12 times in a row on the regeneration roulette wheel [very possible] ... finally, "Woman" came up. It would have been a gaping plot hole if "Missy" is allowed to regenerate from "The Master" ... but Doctor Who must always be male. [and the female Master was terrific - Michelle Gomez was born to be the female reincarnation of The Master] Well ... that's been sorted out now.
You suggested that there "was no need for this right now". Well ... it's happened. Doctor Who is a beautiful female with a Yorkshire accent. A female crossbreed of Eccleston and Tennant. A chromosome must have got changed to X in the regeneration process .. typical after the 12th regeneration of a male Time Lord. (Missy will tell you that!)
8 Tennant is an incredibly popular Doctor anyway, definitely the most popular of the new era I'd say. It's not much of a stretch to imagine Tennant would be Jodie's favourite too.
Well I feel a bit sad because one thing that I liked about doctor who was that some old characters could come back at any moment but if this season is a sort of "new beginning" for the serie well I'm sure that I will not see those characters anymore and we will maybe not speak about them either....
I grew up with him - he was great. I followed up with Davidson and Colin as well. I've seen a few Troughton and Pertwee episodes, and only the first couple of Hartnell's episodes. [UK Gold/RUclips] But .. for me, Eccleston is the best. His speech to Rose in the middle of London .. "the world is spinning at 14000 miles an hour, and we don't notice" made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. This was no ordinary Doctor Who ... he had a Northern accent ("lots of planets have a North!" ... surely one of the best lines the Doctor has ever said in 53 years) ... and wore a leather jacket, instead of some poncy scarf or shirt with ?? marks on it! Not that I mind the overly smartly dressed Tennant and Smith with his "cool" bowtie at all ... but the Doctor can be anything his/her new regeneration chooses to be. Jodie's going to be superb - she's never given a bad performance.
*unfortunately welcomes you to my Tardis that you just stepped into* Whether he was comfortable doing the light humour or not, Eccleston gave a great performance ... he relaunched the show, now in its 13th year SE (Since Eccleston .. a scientific unit). I agree that the scarf is iconic and not poncy ... but a leather jacket vs Colin Baker's "??" on his shirt collar? Come on. I like Jodie's costume - straight out of the Tardis wardrobe :) This is going to be fun :)
Great quick panel you posted. As a casual Doctor Who fan, and a huge fan of the 12th Doctor (Peter Capaldi.....still haven't let HIM go..❤...ahem...as I were....) this will be a great first year for Jodie Whittaker's 13th Doctor, and her new companions Ryan, Yasmin and Graham. The interview was fun, bright and electric..... that's it!.... I got it! 12 said it's been rock and roll , it sure was, now let's make it rhythmic, electric and magical..... like a Non-Stop Electric Playground in Full Effect....and after seeing the full Season 11 Trailer, the rhythm of 13 will get us rocking and rolling and.... just a breath of much needed fresh (er) air. Enjoyed the video tremendously.
He has "The Chase" gameshow five times a week - where really thick contestants take on an ex-Mastermind champion in the forlorn hope of winning thousands of pounds.
what a beautiful cast we have for the next series.... Jodie is a beautiful woman; Mandip is also stunning. Tosin is one beautiful man..... his skin is freaking flawless.
The saddet thig is that the people in charge of making this never actually tried to reassure the fans who are worried about this change. They were pushed aside and called sexists. I expect nothing good coming out of this incarnation
Quiet Demon Well thats a pretty nasty opinion. You dont like how the showrunner is treating the show, so now you dont deserve to call yourself a fan? Thats very ignorrant and very sad. Your not the authority to determine whos a real fan or not or whos a bigger fan. Theres a distinct difference between fan and fanatic.
Mai Nem No... the Doctor is a guy in the body of a girl. Thats the thing we dont want the writters to forget. Thats why many are very against this since right now the wolrs is sufferin from slme very nasty politics and clearly docotr who will be affected by them. So we dont wamt the same Doctor weve known to become an SJW. No fam who view the Doctor's as a single character instead of many who share the same name. Also if the writters had been quiet or atleast civilized then maybe there wouldnt have been such an outrage but instead they labeled fans who were worried about where the show was heading sexists and then ignored them. I dont know if youd be ok getting insulted and treated like crap for simply being worried about something but I for one am not a masochist.
it may have bewen time, but it wasn't needed, yet... and too many older fans are totally pissed off by feeling a complete lack of respect... without them, there'd be no character to reassign as female.
Well, they were casting a female role, why wouldn't they? You wouldn't audition Vin Diesel for the role of Wonder Woman. Yes, the Doctor's previous 14 incarnations have all been male, two of them exactly the same, but this newest incarnation is female. Personally, I think she'll be the most important actor to take the since Patrick Troughton (my favourite). More important, perhaps, as this opens the door for any actor to take the role, which can only be a good thing in the long term.
"..You wouldn't audition Vin Diesel for the role of Wonder Woman..." Sexist pig. Wonder women has always been played by a woman. It is NOW TIME for a man to play the role THE WORLD IS READY for a male wonder woman. Stop being so stuck in the past. For too long women have dominated female roles in movies. It is time to let the men have a go at playing women's roles. Feminism.
I'm not a Doctor Who fan, and this isn't going to make me a fan. However, my question is: how are they are going to explain that all previous doctors had been males, but all of a sudden the doctor is female? Does continually not matter? Also, noticed that both of her traveling companions are a woman of color and black british.
Monique J I think it was also originally stated in lore that the doctor could only regenerate 12 times but something happened in these newer episodes and now the doctor can regenerate alot more than that now. I guess this is a new unexpected discovery that comes with this new regeneration that originally wasn't possible because this new doctor is the Thirteenth Regeneration.
"...Does continually not matter?.." No. Only feminism matter. All of them are openly feminist. The BBC is openly feminist. The show has been openly attacking men and masculinity for several years now with loads of derogatory lines about men that would have gotten the show taken off air if they had been said about women or black people. But to be fair they are just as bad with the female characters, who are only shown in a positive light if they mimic male traits. You see under feminism men have to be effeminate and women have to be macho. And everyone has to be like a child (as you can see from this interview). The feminists and SJWs will destroy DW just like they destroyed Star Wars.... and just like they are destroying society. They just made She Ra (children's female cartoon character) into an androgynous little boy (before she was an Amazonian adult woman). These people hate gender and want to destroy it.
Edward West-Summers a.k.a. CrimsonWitch26 you must not know much about the show. Every question about the Doctor's regenerations situation was answered in the eleventh doctor's very last episode.
I mean, that's how you refer to the different doctors. Like when we discuss the 50th special we say "then 11 pulled out his screwdriver and 10 had the most hilarious look on his face"
Chantelle lockwick love you blake bosschaart mission accomplished girlfriend home taken care tomorrow morning tickets tiffany along alone singing voice commands
Joel McVeagh I know and people were complaining about that, but how does flipping it the other way improve anything? Surely the best way forward would be to audition men AND women so you know you've got the best person for the role. I love Jodie and I'm sure she is going to do brilliantly, I just find it hypocritical. So even if a male had absolutely smashed the audition and was the clear standout performer, they wouldn't be chosen purely because they weren't a woman? Can you see where I'm coming from?
Yeah I get you, I feel like Chris Chibnall had a woman in mind for his first Doctor so I'm not surprised, I would imagine after Jodie that they would audition all...hopefully..
Perhaps only women were seen for it because Chris Chibnall specifically wanted this Doctor to be a woman. It's not hypocritical at all, it's how casting works. You have an idea of the people you want to consider for the part and you audition them. There wasn't a single man who missed out on anything. They've had their chance to shine for the last 55 years on this show.
New Doctor Who looks like a forefront for LGBTG, Feminist, inclusion agenda with jokes against everybody who’s not in that group. Just like in recent seasons, but more aggressive... I wonder if Jodie wonders, did they chose her because she is a women or a great candidate for a Doctor?
Chib has lied about so many things if the casting was only open to women. If (when?) this fails, it will be such a setback to women not to cast a stronger actress (they were available!). Women I know are boycotting a female Doctor. I’m afraid for a show I love.
What a pile of bullshit. You lost me at "cast a stronger actress" ... Jodie is awesome. I can't think of a stronger actress than her; at least not in her age range. [yes ... there's Dame Helen Mirren, and Dame Maggie Smith ... who have 180 years between them] If you can't take a simple sci-fi premise - that the Doctor becomes female - then you should have left long ago.
Mai Nem It seems your ignorance of current Brit actresses is epic. Many are far better than JW. My wife is a Broadchurch fan and dismisses JW as a poor actress after 3 series. If you can’t deal with diverse opinions without cursing, you may need to expand your horizons...
Danielle R.B Oh, I’ll be watching alright. I became a fan before many NuWho fans were born. A poor actress used for a new starting point won’t drive classic fans away. Poor viewing numbers, dropping Blu-ray sales, and eroding merch sales? That’ll hasten another hiatus for the show. Getting a young and pretty cast won’t be enough without solid acting and exceptional stories...which survive the course of time. I don’t want to watch a train wreck...but boy, it feels like one with makeup on.
Even in this interview the narrative goes down the female road, why did you not tell your father? All the other doctors did, all the family knew who were close like mother and father... This is going to be fun
Time for a female doctor? There is no reason to have a female doctor. Im not against it. And if jodi earned the role and kills it then great. I dont care if we have a female doctor or not. Just do a good job. Its annoying to hear, its time! Or we need this! You dont. We dont. It makes you wonder do people not have condidence rhat they cant make an original female character that will sell with people? Why piggyback off of already existing female male chractera, replace or gender bend them. A female character cant build a dynasty? Whats up with that?
You're the Nazi. "Anyone who does NOT have ze same accent as mine vill be SCHOTT! ... and get zer TV show CANSULT!" "Only zose born indt London are off pure blood! - only zey are allowed to be ont ze TV!" Her accent is Yorkshire - but Eccleston's was Manchester ... this rebooted version of Doctor Who would have been cancelled before it started if you had your way. [I assume you wanted Capaldi to be thrown out too - being Scottish, like Sylvester McCoy [well Tennant is Scottish too, but he brilliantly played the posh London accent for 4 years]) I draw the line at Birmingham though ... they all sound constantly depressed. [would I still watch a female, brummie Doctor Who? ... without question .. I would want to see where this was going to go! ... quite exciting actually] A Welsh Doctor? Well I would have said no - but Torchwood convinced me that it could work. The main female character was Welsh, and I hardly noticed after 1 episode. The moral of my story is GIVE HER A CHANCE! Only Nazis dismiss something based on looks, or accent, or race without letting them show what they've got.
They’ve all done so well in the interviews. Jodie is bubbling with warmth and they all seem to have a great bond and shared humour.
Never watched the show. Started this season with the new doctor and I absolutely loved it !
Mandip and Jodie got mad chemistry though😭
1:05 the audience was ready? Are you sure about that 😂 😂 😂
There shouldn’t be a “time” for anything, just cast The Doctor and get on with the show, done.
Garry Izzard umm that’s what they did and have been doing
Quiet Demon Along with all the pointless extra stuff.
“I said you could have it” LOL
They all have such lovely smiles!
And then there's Jodie's witchy laugh xD
i knew the comments were gonna be a trainwreck and lo and behold! They are!
yeah it's a train wreck, just like the show
Hahaha I love Mandip!
They should have cast Joanna Lumley back in the 80s.
"I mean I'm sat here!" Haha
Oh that makes me wanna see their onscreen dynamic more haha
"For the first time in the 55 years history the 13th Doctor is a woman". Didn't know there was another 13th Doctor
I am looking forward to seeing the first of Jodie's episodes. Now that we have a female Doctor for the first time I hope that in the future the role will go to the best actor who is both available and willing irrespective of gender, colour or age.
Would you be fine with a male Wonder Woman? Just curious.
Paulafan5
The quick answer would be no but I will attempt to give a more detailed answer.
1:05 what is this thasmin moment tho like where did it come from😂??
Cool interview but damn that volume was REAL low!
Eccleston is my Doctor, but I hope to fall in love with Jodie too!!!
She'll bring in that Northerner charm like the great Chris Eccleston.
she seems to have the childlike innocence of Tennant's first series ... mixed with the gravitas of Eccleston.
She's a Teccleston!
Jodie seems reminiscent of two fan-film Female Doctors: Barbara Benedetti in The Wrath Of Eukor and Lilly Nelson in The Ginger Chronicles. 👍🏻
7:00 Like Series 7. Oh boy, that was most definitely my favourite part of that series, so I can not wait.
Mandip ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I am fine with a female Doctor, but i don`t think it was a need for it. I would be just as fine with a male Doctor as i am with a female Doctor. Feologild 100% Agreed

[and the female Master was terrific - Michelle Gomez was born to be the female reincarnation of The Master]
Well ... that's been sorted out now.
Yes i would.
Also as i have stated i have no problem with a female doctor but of course you seem to ignore that part.
It wouldn't have been a plot hole if The Doctor didn't regenerate into a woman
You suggested that there "was no need for this right now".
Well ... it's happened.
Doctor Who is a beautiful female with a Yorkshire accent.
A female crossbreed of Eccleston and Tennant.
A chromosome must have got changed to X in the regeneration process .. typical after the 12th regeneration of a male Time Lord.
(Missy will tell you that!)
It's such a joy to see this wonderful positive energy emanating from Jodie.
atta nabil she could be just being polite since Tennant has been her co-worker for years
8 Tennant is an incredibly popular Doctor anyway, definitely the most popular of the new era I'd say. It's not much of a stretch to imagine Tennant would be Jodie's favourite too.
That sonic screwdriver is gonna need charging a lot more.....
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Well I feel a bit sad because one thing that I liked about doctor who was that some old characters could come back at any moment but if this season is a sort of "new beginning" for the serie well I'm sure that I will not see those characters anymore and we will maybe not speak about them either....
Matt is my man
cassie earle Matt was one of the best, probably my favourite (Patrick Troughton a close second!). Excited about Jodie taking on the iconic role :)
Rowan Atkinson did the best interpretation of the role.
I also like McCoy as well and Tom Baker. Peter also did an amazing as the 12th too. Those are my faves.
I grew up with him - he was great.
I followed up with Davidson and Colin as well.
I've seen a few Troughton and Pertwee episodes, and only the first couple of Hartnell's episodes. [UK Gold/RUclips]
But .. for me, Eccleston is the best.
*unfortunately welcomes you to my Tardis that you just stepped into*
Whether he was comfortable doing the light humour or not, Eccleston gave a great performance ... he relaunched the show, now in its 13th year SE (Since Eccleston .. a scientific unit).
I agree that the scarf is iconic and not poncy ... but a leather jacket vs Colin Baker's "??" on his shirt collar? Come on.
I like Jodie's costume - straight out of the Tardis wardrobe :)
This is going to be fun :)
4:51 - "What did i JUST say?"
Enjoyed the video tremendously.
Is the volume really low for anyone else?
synapticflow Yes and I think I'm gonna need subtitles for Jodi's Yorkie accent!
yeahbut, no subtitles here.
not too bad ... quieter than other videos though
If you’re alone he says we had a choice of all amazing actresses, so there wasn’t a mail being tested was there?
If my friends offered me so much excitement like in here... A red flag will start blinking like: "yeah.... Right. We will see." . Can't wait
Jodie really comes across as a leader even during these interviews. Bodes well for the series.
Benn Eden not really she seems racist and a sexist
THASMIN AF.
I can't wait for October!!
Honestly I haven’t really liked the show since tennant and I want to see if she can change my mind
And ....
(... waits to give her a chance)
Dr Who is dead & never will be the same again.
i'm happy for Jodie Whittaker
I miss Peter Capaldi already...
Where's Bradley?!
Simon Beaird he’s working on a different project in the UK
Quiet Demon Thanks!
He has "The Chase" gameshow five times a week - where really thick contestants take on an ex-Mastermind champion in the forlorn hope of winning thousands of pounds.
My childhood
what a beautiful cast we have for the next series.... Jodie is a beautiful woman; Mandip is also stunning. Tosin is one beautiful man..... his skin is freaking flawless.
Hang on... TEN little movies? Have they reduced the length of the season AGAIN?
Stephen Birchard umm yeah that info has been around for a while try to keep up
Chris kinda sounds like russell T davis
why the hell does the show / world have to be "ready" for a female doctor
seriously come on people get some common sense
After watching the series ,these people have killed Dr Who I don’t watch it any more.
Can’t wait they sound so proud of it it’s just gunna be amazing
'discluded' - !
Chris Chibnall's wig is pretty bad.
You do know that's his real hair, right(?)
@@pateganulo As bad as his episodes.
L o w E n e r g y
The saddet thig is that the people in charge of making this never actually tried to reassure the fans who are worried about this change. They were pushed aside and called sexists. I expect nothing good coming out of this incarnation
what could they have done?
Doctor Who is a girl this time ... there's no way they can soften the blow!
Deal with it.
White Knight if they don’t accept it they don’t deserve to be called whovians it’s that simple
it’s your job to reassure yourself. The show runners aren’t responsible for prying open people’s closed minds.
Quiet Demon Well thats a pretty nasty opinion. You dont like how the showrunner is treating the show, so now you dont deserve to call yourself a fan? Thats very ignorrant and very sad. Female Doctor: most dumb idea of all time.
it may have bewen time, but it wasn't needed, yet... and too many older fans are totally pissed off by feeling a complete lack of respect... without them, there'd be no character to reassign as female.
they are all a little uncomfortable
So they went with female only auditions

theawecabinet I know right, anyone can be a woman these days🙃
Kind of hope they return to overarching stories in the next series.
YES< NOT SERIALIZED.
BLACKED...bisexual edition.
who are the two gay looking ones at the back???
I'm not a Doctor Who fan, and this isn't going to make me a fan. However, my question is: how are they are going to explain that all previous doctors had been males, but all of a sudden the doctor is female? Does continually not matter? Also, noticed that both of her traveling companions are a woman of color and black british.
Allen Knott the Doctor is an alien from Gallifrey. We've already known this. That's all the explanation that's needed
There's a third companion: Graham, portrayed by Bradley Walsh. He is a white, British, middle-aged man.
Monique J I think it was also originally stated in lore that the doctor could only regenerate 12 times but something happened in these newer episodes and now the doctor can regenerate alot more than that now. That's how they are all refered to its because she's the new one it's got nothing to do with gender. And she's 15 anyway really
Yous are seriously not counting that fucking Tennant doppelgänger from series 4 that they call a finale? 😂
Fuck no...
I am so happy. I wanna cry
Hmmm...

That’s how casting works...
"looks like"
Why don't you just wait and watch?
Or fuck off if you don't want to see it.
[yes ... there's Dame Helen Mirren, and Dame Maggie Smith ... who have 180 years between them]
If you can't take a simple sci-fi premise - that the Doctor becomes female - then you should have left long ago.
Mai Nem It seems your ignorance of current Brit actresses is epic. Many are far better than JW. My wife is a Broadchurch fan and dismisses JW as a poor actress after 3 series.
If you can’t deal with diverse opinions without cursing, you may need to expand your horizons...
Kenneth Conklin your wife has a very narrow and pathetic view of actors
give her a chance buddy 👍🏾women you know may be boycotting, but women I know are saying they will begin watching again. It works both ways :)
800th like
Even in this interview the narrative goes down the female road, why did you not tell your father? All the other doctors did, all the family knew who were close like mother and father... This is going to be fun
Time for a female doctor? There is no reason to have a female doctor. Im not against it. And if jodi earned the role and kills it then great. I dont care if we have a female doctor or not. Just do a good job. Its annoying to hear, its time! Or we need this! You dont. We dont. It makes you wonder do people not have condidence rhat they cant make an original female character that will sell with people? Why piggyback off of already existing female male chractera, replace or gender bend them. A female character cant build a dynasty? Whats up with that?
Feminism. Thats why lol
Yes! Awesome.
Yup, BBC “Equally” agenda strikes again. Spend the views lic fees on more crap.
dmwait don’t worry there are still *many*!shows with a majority white male cast for you to watch
Thirteen straight white men in a row isn't an agenda. But a woman? How dare!
Danielle R.B not one that as targeted at men for 50 years so fuck you
SMH. Pathetic.
woman power1!!11/
That accent ruins the magic of Doctor Who, god, please get cancelled
you should get cancelled
Mai Nem why, cause my opinion differs from urs?? U a nazi??
N C That’s a bit petty mate.
You're the Nazi.
"Anyone who does NOT have ze same accent as mine vill be SCHOTT! ... and get zer TV show CANSULT!"
"Only zose born indt London are off pure blood! - only zey are allowed to be ont ze TV!"
Her accent is Yorkshire - but Eccleston's was Manchester ... this rebooted version of Doctor Who would have been cancelled before it started if you had your way. [I assume you wanted Capaldi to be thrown out too - being Scottish, like Sylvester McCoy [well Tennant is Scottish too, but he brilliantly played the posh London accent for 4 years])
I draw the line at Birmingham though ... they all sound constantly depressed. [would I still watch a female, brummie Doctor Who? ... without question .. I would want to see where this was going to go! ... quite exciting actually]
A Welsh Doctor?
Well I would have said no - but Torchwood convinced me that it could work. The main female character was Welsh, and I hardly noticed after 1 episode.
The moral of my story is GIVE HER A CHANCE!
Only Nazis dismiss something based on looks, or accent, or race without letting them show what they've got.
N C bitch Capaldi had a Scottish accent yet you complain about an accent which is easier to understand ha fuck you
