  • In episode 27 we go through the Kaskaskia Lock and Dam to get topped off on fuel. From there we filet and cook the Asian Carp fish (aka Silver Fin) and share our thoughts on if it is any good, or if it is truly a trash fish. You might be surprised!

    About I’m on Vacation:
    I'm on Vacation is about freedom. Freedom from responsibility. It's an "out of office" auto reply on your work email. It's a beer on a Tuesday at lunch just because the weather is nice. It's a laissez-faire mindset. Throw caution to the wind, because anything can happen when you’re on vacation, and nothing else exists but the present moment.
    Bradley and Margaret McCoy have made their home in New Orleans and are living this "I'm on Vacation" mentality. From dancing in the streets in full costume during Mardi Gras to buying a vintage houseboat to travel down the Mississippi River, there’s no telling where they will end up next.

    Kink the waterhose, fill it with the pump , take off the pump then siphon

    • @ImonVacation
      @ImonVacation  2 года назад +1

      That was the original plan, but we really wanted to ensure we had something pushing it in case we had to run hoses over a levee, etc.

    I've done Asian Carp tournaments in the Kaskaskia where we had so many of them in the boat, we quit early because we were worried we might sink the boat. Didn't eat one of them. They are VERY invasive and a nuisance/dangerous when they jump in the boat. good videos

    • @ImonVacation
      @ImonVacation  Год назад

      Thanks! Yeah, I read about tournaments where people put on baseball catchers gear with helmets and would ride around netting them. I bet that's crazy! The Carp was really good though. You should try it next time you get a chance.

      Thank you! We've been working hard on them. We think you'll enjoy some of the ones coming up as it's a part of the river most people haven't seen and we meet up with several guests along the way.

    I live by the river in Ky. We just cut the ribs out and skin them. Then you just have 2 rib bones in your piece of fish. These were about 20 Lb size.

    • @ImonVacation
      @ImonVacation  Год назад

      For Asian Carp? What about all the little wish bones? Are you just eating those?

    • @4069ish
      @4069ish Год назад +1

      @@ImonVacation I haven’t eaten an Asian Carp yet but they are just like white Carp that I am talking about. You just take a hatchet or cleaver and take the whole sides of the fish. Then you cut out the ribs and discard the rest.we just didn’t want to deal with the bonesYou skin the rib pieces and then slice them with 2 rib bones in each piece. One rib bone if it’s a real big one. They are very good.there are no y bones in the ribs, only the one bone and it makes a great handle to hold when you dip it in your sauce.

    Garden hose for fuel line? 2020 was a different time 😄.

    • @ImonVacation
      @ImonVacation  5 месяцев назад +1

      LOL! Yep. We knew it was for a 1 time use and were trying to save money. (Definitely didn't use it as a fuel line though, just a cyphon hose.)

    • @historyv350
      @historyv350 5 месяцев назад

      True, the only issue is part of the inner rubber lining probably ended up at the bottom of the boat's fuel tank, as its not meant to hold up to gasoline. But it worked and ya'll made it thank goodness.

    Doesn't gas melt garden hose rubber and plastic?

    • @ImonVacation
      @ImonVacation  Год назад

      There are specifications for the type of rubber and plastic to be used when transporting gas. I believe polyethylene is one. I actually researched this when we ordered the fuel barrels. I don't think a garden hose meets the specs, but wasn't a concern for cyphoning fuel. Definitely wouldn't use it as a fuel line or long-term plan....

    Sometimes, I have the impression you only run 1 engine, wouldn't that damage the transmission of the other by spinning the prop with no mechanical lubrication?

    • @ImonVacation
      @ImonVacation  2 года назад +1

      We probably ran 1 engine 90% of the time for fuel purposes. We have 2 Ford 302 merceuisers with TRS drives so they actually do have transmissions, but each engine and stern drive is completely separate and independent from the other. So running only 1 engine has no consequences on the other.

    Silver and Big Head carp. Nastiest fish that swims. NOLA tried to market it as white fish in restaurants several years ago.
    No go. Nasty.
    Then cat food. Cats said Big Nope.
    I'm a certified river rat, Midstreamer. I'll eat river oysters before I take a bite of that thing.
    Bottom suckers and of course invasive

    Is your 55 gallon above the fuel filler neck on your boat? Siphon line will fill the 55 gallons in about 5 minutes! Why won't any one use any common sense any more???

    • @ImonVacation
      @ImonVacation  4 месяца назад

      I thought you said you were going to stop watching the videos? Just kidding, glad you stuck with us. Siphoning the fuel was the original plan, but we knew we were going to eventually have to pump it in once we got further down river, so we figured we would go ahead and put something together.

    • @jhaedtler
      @jhaedtler 4 месяца назад

      @@ImonVacation I'm surprised you read my comment.I figured you were a democrat. There may be hope for you kids! the trick to siphoning. Push the entire hose into the fuel barrel. Cover the tube to trap the fuel in the hose. Pull the hose to the fuel filler neck and stick it in and within no time the barrel will drain out! I have fuelled airplanes in Mexico this way and it has never failed me!
