    Nie Lub?
    czy mały lub duży?
nie sposóbu, tamta jest nowy pomysł się uczyę.
Tamta jest pierwszy raz kiedy widzę "czy" wśród słów, a nie przed.
These lessons are great. Filling holes and weaknesses I am finding in my fundamentals.

      Compare:
CZY mówisz po polsku? - Do you speak Polish?
Mówisz po polsku CZY po angielsku? - Do you speak Polish or English? (one answer needs to be selected)
Mówisz po polsku LUB po angielsku? - Do you speak Polish or English? (or both? or any other language?)
"CZY" can be used in questions at the beginning of the sentence or between words. "Czy" at the beginning of the sentence asks the person to decide if it is true or false. "Czy" between words asks to decide about one choice.
(Czy) chcesz kawę? - Do you want coffee? (The person needs to decide "yes" or "no", "Czy" here can be omitted)
Chcę wiedzieć, czy chcesz kawę. - I want to know if you want coffee. (here "czy" has a similar function to "if" in English)
Chcesz kawę czy herbatę? - Do you want coffee or tea? (The person needs to decide which option they want: coffee or tea, only one from these, no other choice)
"LUB" has a different function. It can be used both in statements and in questions. It shows that there is more than one alternative possible, but no one is required to select only one from these. It has a wide and vague meaning (combines the meaning of "albo" and "i")
Chcesz kawę lub herbatę? - Do you want coffee or tea? (the person is not required to make a decision between coffee or tea. They can select one of these, both, none or something else).
Napiję się kawy lub herbaty. - I will drink coffee or tea. (The person saying this is not convinced what they will drink).
There is also "ALBO" which is used mainly in statements, less in questions. It is used to show that one of the presented options is selected. In questions is often used to ask if the proposal is ok or not. Has a very similar meaning to "lub", oftentimes "albo" and "lub" are interchangeable.
Napiję się kawy albo herbaty. - I will drink coffee or tea. (only one of these options is possible).
Może napijemy się kawy albo herbaty? - Maybe we will drink coffee or tea? (here the person is asking about the idea of drinking something, it is not so important what we drink).

The lessons are simple and clearly understood which is great. It would be nice to have everyday vocab, used in everyday conversations, for example, these shoes are too big, this sweater is too small, this coat is too tight/big, hi, how are you?, colours, temperature, kinds of food, parts of the body (I have a headache, my arm hurts), is there a doctor a pharmacie nearby?, a hairdresser/stylist, a grocery store, where do I catch the bus? etc.,

Can I equate "ale" with however as I feel I would equate "a" more with but?

    • @PolishwithMonika
      @PolishwithMonika  Год назад +2

"Ale" and "a" are words that are not so easy to translate.
"Ale" could be translated as "but" or "however". It is often used to add a comment that negates the first statement. Another purpose is to express surprise in an emotional way. Examples:
Smutne, ale prawdziwe. - Sad but true.
Ale o co ci chodzi? - But what do you mean?
"A" could be translated as "and" or "but". It is often used to add additional information. Examples:
Najpierw pójdziemy na lody, a potem na kawę. - First we will go to have some ice-cream, and then get some coffee.
To jest moje, a tamto jest twoje. - This is mine, and/but that is yours.
