Hey! Love the dissection of this goon's behavior. Just wanted to mention that what Dr. Balestrieri says at 12:55 about "the whole alpha concept" being proven wrong is a total pop sci factoid, repeated ad nauseum on Twitter and Reddit by people who are not zoologists and have no business making these claims. The existance of alpha males (and females) and their various, species-specific behavioral trends is a virtually bulletproof consensus going back decades among hundreds of mammalian species, probably most well-documented in our closest relatives, chimpanzees. Remember Jane Goodall? Most of her field work was composed of incredibly detailed and persistent behavioral documentation the Kasekala troop in Gombe national park, and in particular of an alpha male she called Frodo, who had secured control of Kasekela after deposing his older brother, Freud. Alpha males in chimpanzee troops are defined by things like reproductive monopoly, food privilege, very high ratios of being groomed vs. grooming others, the almost total absence of routine physical harassment, the allegiance of lower-ranking males, etc. However, not all alpha male chimpanzees are the same! Frodo was particularly brutish and hostile, and though he maintained control of Kasekala for about 5 years due to being much larger than the other males in the troop, he was quickly and violently deposed being weakened by a parasitic infection. Alpha males dominate a social hierarchy, that's the start and end of it. They aren't defined by being smarter, stronger, longer-living, more reproductive, etc, though some of those traits naturally will correlate with control of a social group. So the invocation of the term as some arbitrary definition of sexual competence in (almost entirely monogamous) human social groups and morality is nonsense on its face. Humans social groups do not exhibit reproductive monolopy except in the most unusual and niche examples like elite nobility. We are much more cooperative, we have inherited very weak evolutionary signals of adaptation towards sperm competition and polygamy, etc. We have very low sexual dimorphism. Etc. Lots of stuff to unpack and lots of great resources from primatologists and zoologists here on RUclips! I'd encourage Dr. Balestrieri to check them out because the sexual behavior of primates is incredibly complex and interesting, and might even give her a new appreciation for the human version that is her subject of expertise!
The fact that cringe, insecure manosphere dilettantes want to invoke their anti-social behavior as "alpha male" does NOT mean that you can pretend that Jane Goodall's work doesn't exist or is debunked! Please do not throw the baby out with the bathwater!

Thank you both. Scott, this and your videos on Sinclair were great. I stopped following health podcasters who deny taking steroids or using other youth, strength and beauty enhancers or surgery. (If you know what to look steroid use is obvious.) These podcasters are profiting by saying 'just follow me and do this to look good like me ' all the while they are getting extra help. As far as what happened to the women who apparently were lied to... there will always be a problem when the money/power is unbalanced in a relationship. If you trade youth and beauty to be with someone with a lot more wealth and power you'll be open to exploitation.

These two people are coming from a very textbook point of view. I did watch a video of him sharing how effed up he was in his early adult years. A lot of these social media influencers have superior feelings about themselves. The stories about the exploits, for example, of rock stars, politicians, world leaders, athletes, CEOs, etc. are numerous. So what do we do with this information? Do we dismiss all of the information he shares? The guy has changed lives with the knowledge he shares. Making a decision on how you want to support someones works is highly individual. From the music I listen to, the movie's I watch, the books I read, who I vote for... lord knows what people do with their personal lives. I'd rather just stay out of that part of their lives. Because if I overthink it I'd never turn the raido on, I'd never buy another book, I'd stop voting and I for sure would never seek out the assistance from a therapist! A lot of what I hear seems to come from a quite strong belief in "the status quo" / "social / cultural values" / the capitalist system as being some sort of absolute truth. As if there is only one way a human being functions / should be able to function. A sort of gatekeeping of normativity.
Being an autistic this sometimes leaves me with the feeling of an ingroup / outgroup mechanism at a large scale. Not really appearing as inclusive and at times abelistic.

woah , that thing about women having to meet Huberman at the door and kiss his feet , and wear a dog collar when he eats -- just wow , that stuff is legit scary , finally details that make me understand why he is supposedly so scandalous , and therefore i disagree with the Dr. -- Huberman is a bad guy !
i get that he has a lot of trauma and probably takes his supressed anger/rage from dysfunctional relationship with his mom (?) and takes it out as a form of revenge on these women , but damn , after a certain age , and especially if you prop yourself up as the ultimate Internet health guru , then please , no excuses for the guy !
was also a bit confused , on the one hand she sort of "tolerates" affairs in couples therapy , because clients are too comfortable in their living arrangement and don't want to change that and ultimately pay her to not upset them , then later on she is way more clear about negative sides of infidelity.
ultimately a good talk , have to say though , the older i get , the more online personas i come across , the less i trust.
i find this lady very articulate and intelligent , but my "off radar" is tingling because she looks a bit like she got surgery on the lips , also i dislike her wardrobe choice for this , but thats just me i guess , something more professional would have been nicer.
hope nothing happens to her though , remember a case on Todd Grande (another super sus guy btw) where some therapist woman got offed by her former BF / client / stalker.
it wasn't exactly clear , but in that case it looked like she was working as a model/scort on the side.
i just distrust many therapists , because they go into the field because of their personal trauma , and most never really overcome it , and it severely hinders/affects any potential therapy prospect for patients.
last but not least thank you for doing this Mr. Carney -- i recently left a comment on a video of Anna Runkle (YT channel 'Crappy Childhood Fairy') where she was listing effective therapy methods other than talk therapy , and talking about Wim Hof , thanks to you , I put a warning in there to not do it in water , because plenty of people have died , and so on.
Keep doing what your doing. 👍 (maybe streamline your thumbnails though , choose an outline color or mabye even two outline colors , a distinct typeface and a specific color for that , if you look at channels like Huberman's or Not Just Bikes -- the repetitiveness / corporate identity of the thumbnail is super important -- after you have done that , retroactively change every video thumbnail to the new design format -- if you like the idea and have the time of course , just my unsolicited internet stranger input 🙈).
I initially only clicked this thumbnail because i wanted to tell you , that the thumbnail is one very clickbaity , and two lacks YOU in it.
    all the best from Germany

Oh my goodness. I'm stuck on the title of this post. I've been listening to Huberman here and there for a couple years. I reserve a bit of skepticism for most things. In fact, when I first heard of cold plunging from Huberman, my first thought was 'that sounds like a bad idea.' What of those with unrecognized underlying health conditions? Who wd jump into this? hmmmmm. No pun intended. It's also not a good idea to pursue a duplicitous and kinky sex life as a public figure. People will be exposed. Perhaps all of us are easily victimized at times. hmmmmm

“All this hate,” the totally unthinking response you’re experiencing, is so reflexively adolescent or even much younger. If Huberman’s commendable professional, adult presentation of his material is (at least to me) a true part of his appeal, this ugly, blind ugliness is a tremendous disappointment. I have no idea how Huberman would discuss the dubious personal issues being addressed, but I can’t see him responding in these tantrum-like ways. I’m disappointed by how thoughtless and belligerent his listeners have been.

@@pierrex3226Exactly. The most powerful and respectable men I've met didn't belittle others, on the contrary, they created an environment for people to grow. People didn't think that was their weakness but respected them even more. When you're truly a strong person, you don't need to feed on humiliation of others. Weak people do that, because they're terrified of being seen for who they really are.

@@sgcarney sure… but if you’re a player in the game that’s just how that goes. Don’t complain about it later on. I’ve dated lots of guys in my time and I’ve heard of so many requests that were made. To some I said yes and many I said NO! I’ve also made requests and again some said no and some said yes. Consent is consent no matter which way you turn it. If someone is asking you to wear a dog collar and wash and lick their 🦶 and you do it… she must have been under some kind of weird hypnotic trance… a spell of some sort. I’ve done a ton of research on this and I’ve even broken some of my own spells. Somewhere in that women’s life someone in her past or childhood asked her to do something similar. I’m sure you know this is seen in cults. She has to ask herself why she kept going back and why she let herself be subjected to this behavior? It’s probably because somewhere deep in her subconscious she wanted this. I know it sounds crazy but if it was not in her programming she would have never done it. So either the guy slowly “groomed “ her…. Very much like a guru or cult leader to where she was put under some type of “spell” which made her comply. Seems like he knew how to do this since he was very good friends with the director of pediatric psychiatry at Stanford.

    • @Solistastyle
      @Solistastyle 5 месяцев назад +7

You have no concept of a power differential relationship. Google David Parker Ray - a serial killer who forced women into these situations and killed them.
Agreed Huberman didn't use physical force. But emotional force is often even more compelling. Look up the pictures of elephants being held captive with small ankle chains. That's the principle.
Power comes with responsibility. If you are using your power to degrade women to feel empowered, it simply means you have no leadership capacity.

    • @JJ.gandalfthegrey
