I can't BELIEVE these guys are going! I remember visiting New York in 2010, twice in 2017 and in 2021. I saw these buses on the streets everywhere in the city. I can't BELIEVE these buses are no more after 13 years. Where does the time go???😭
I have said the same exact thing! It's so strange saying that these are all gone from service, especially after seeing them brand new in service. Time went by way too fast.
Half the drivers at NICE liked these along with the Orion V CNGs, it feels very weird not seeing these on the roads of Nassau, parts of Suffolk and Queens anymore. However 1797 is being used as a training bus and it was spotted in New Hyde Park not too long ago, it was spotted around where the Q46 operates at
I still remember the very first #1700. Couldn't believe Long Island was getting low floor buses. The turning white LED lights were also cool especially in the night.
Man my favorite fleet of Orion VII CNG NGs from NICE Bus. These were hated by many transit fanners. Mostly because of their seats and them being Next Gens in general. I honestly don't care for the Gillig BRTs so NICE been very dull ever since the retirement of these NGs.
Are they really that petty? CTA Kept their Nova LFS 2’s in service for 20! Hear me out! 20 years!? Well, sure they d40’s with foreheads didn’t last long.. but again, mechanically it was a good decision.
It's not about being petty. CNG buses have different requirements over diesels. CNGs(depending on the tanks) can run for 12, 15 or 20 years as per federal requirements. These had 15-year tanks, however, they also reached more than 500,000 miles in service, which is also a federal requirement as to when buses are forced to be retired from service. Diesels can run for many years as long as they don't hit the 500k miles mark.
I don’t hate them but I didn’t like them either I would’ve always prefer the good ol Orion V CNGs, specially unit 1755 was my biggest nightmare especially always running on the N4 line
These buses sound great

hated by so many, but some of my personal favorites
People hated them for the seats, but they were great for recordings, especially on the N20.

Those Orion’s are fun to drive I personally like even more than giligs
ilove mta bus
Why were these retired
CNG Tank expired
@@TransitIslandExtras so does that mean the mta version will be retired too?
mta what? NG’s?
@@TransitIslandExtras yeah the Orion’s
Answer: No. They are still alive. (edit: hybrids don't expire)
What about the Orion 5 CNGs
I Love this picture
So where they retired due to mileage laws or the tanks expiring it seems the tanks probably would’ve had another 2-3 years
Mileage. They were over 500k miles at the point of retirement.
ilove mta bus

@@ShaneAkACaitSith810 mmm, so your saying by law they had to be retired
@@ShaneAkACaitSith810 but WHY do they need to be retired as soon as they hit 500K miles
Federal law. Simple. I already said that. Especially since these were purchased with federal funds.
