The cross on the wall of the execution chamber was not their at her request but at the request of Styllou Christofi. She was hanged in 1954. The 2nd last woman executed. After her execution the cross was left in place. ( Source: Executioner Pierrepoint )
Very sad story and one that should not have ended that way imo. Too complex to explain fully but her background suggests to me that she should have been treated with more care and consideration, and allowed to live. 😢
This century, most civilised countries have decided killing (even) murderers is an evil thing to do. Britain had some unfortunate experiences when people who weren’t actually guilty were hanged, as in the case of Timothy Evans in the Rillington Place murders. These days, with her sad history, Ruth Ellis would probably have been paroled after ten years or so.
Sad but an abusive childhood doesn't give anyone the right to kill .
Thank you for remembering Ruth's story, a tragic tale.
So very sad

She was treated so badly by people her whole life, that's the real crime.
There are many victims in this tragic story.
Disgusting.
A Very sad storry. With just one Good Man in her life, things could have turned out much better!
