great experiment. you should redo and incrementally add pressure and see how much pressure before it goes critical. then put like 75 percent before the critical point and see how long the plastic will last.
Detroiter here. I thought you were Canadian when I saw the Calamata Juice bottle. Then I heard you talk, and thought, "oh yeah, this guys got to be a leaf!"
Would a metal hose clamp around the cap and maybe some epoxy 2 part glue on the threads help eliminate the cap giving up before you get a true test of some of these amazingly strong bottles? Great video by the way!
Awesome!! Would you try this again with bottles that have been shrunken down using hot water? (I poured boiling water into a 2L and it shrunk down, increasing wall thickness and strength for carbonating beverages)
Cool experiment! Where did you get the red cap on the test stand? That is a good idea to avoid having to drill each cap and installing a valve stem each time. It kind of looks like a liquor bottle cap - heavy duty.
It is very safe with water. It makes a sploosh sound with not much excitement. But with straight air it's another story! It is incredibly loud and scares the daylights out of you!! I see you commented on that video too. Thanks.
@@chrisnotap I'm going to use plastic bottles as fireworks this year for December 31st. Since my air compressor only goes to 150 PSI I will have to design a trigger to make them POP at a certain pressure, since I will be a distance away from the bottles.
Very good video. Although amateur work, it has some scientific value. Would be useful to know the water temperature and other factors like climate in order to put those numbers in a context. Temperature definitely affects pressure.
That's exactly why he filled it with water because it makes the testing much safer and quieter. That's why I hydraulics are much safer over compressed air systems.
have you ever tried a thick walled bottle like 1,5l from coca-cola? was wondering if a couple of them would make a great tank for my tankless airbrush compressor (rated at 60psi)
What would happen if they were full of air and they burst near my face? I'm thinking about making an air pressure tennis ball cannon, and what would happen if things went awry?
I've wondered, what happens if you wrap duct tape around it? Will it make it stronger? Also, a bit of thick tape around the cap might help seal it better and prevent the cap from popping off. But it will be harder to screw on.
Interesting indeed. I'm curious though about the "Smart Water" style bottles since they're symmetrical in design. Have you found a particular cap that holds up to the pressure better than others? If so, what's it from? Be interesting test combining the best bottle with the best cap. also, did you find they could hold more pressure if filled at a certain rate? Thanks for sharing your experiment. - chase -
I'm making another video now and should be up in a few days. I tested 2L bottles with "air only" until they explode and did numerous ones to get a good average fail pressure. Subscribe if you want and you'll get it automatically. I can tell you that when they let go, it is one hell of a loud blast!
Subbed & liked, I often wondered what psi OLD plastic bottles can withstand, as I reuse it making soda, could you make a comparison of new and old ones? Thanks
Sorry i don't know its name but you should put a 'metal ring which you can make smaller with a screw' around the cap. When the caps can't go off anymore, the pressure might be much higher.
1. Interesting and probably useful for me, so thanks for making and posting this. 2. Where did you get the valve stems, and are they a particular kind to seal well to plastic bottle caps? Thanks, --Larry
If your a mechanic do this sometimes. Fill up the bottle with air to the point where it's about to burst then put it under a car lift and put the lift the down and it'll make the big explosion. My friend literally shit himself in the bathroom
I want to keep my job, so I won't do that!! Lol!! I did a bunch of explosions with just compressed air, check it out ruclips.net/video/SDTvjJZlnR8/видео.html
Cool video, very informative for me. Do you think you could come up with something doing this with air instead of water? They would make a "little" noise.Sorry, I didn't read first. Now I really like you. :))) Blow'em up!!!!!!!!!
I did this in my garage, and I put my phone recording in the living room which about 20-25 feet away from the garage and the garage door was open, anyway I had a smaller 500ml bottle that somehow managed to get to 85psi before it exploded and when it exploded, when I say that thing sounded like a 12 gauge going off, it did. Thankfully I used ear protection and also when it went off every thing that was hanging on the walls fell down and when I checked the camera footage in my living room, the phone shook when it went off. Dangerous dangerous stuff man.

Que tal fazer o mesmo teste com cilindros de extintores de incendio, daqueles pequenos
usados em carros de passeio?

1:41 I like the shape the bottle is taking, shame
you couldn't blow one up to that size and save it
long enough till it takes that shape.
how long would a large soda bottle last if filled to 4 bar/58psi constantly being filled and emptied?
How did you make this, would you mind putting a part list in the description
3:50 THE OPTION TO SHUT DOWN THE REACTOR CORE HAS NOW EXPIRED

Detroiter here.
I thought you were Canadian when I saw the Calamata Juice bottle.
Then I heard you talk, and thought, "oh yeah, this guys got to be a leaf!"
You are correct! I am a Leaf! Yes, Clamato juice is very popular here for our Bloody Caesars. Hello from the North!
I wonder how big it would get if the water was hot ?
I was looking for this video. Thanks.
Would a metal hose clamp around the cap and maybe some epoxy 2 part glue on the threads help eliminate the cap giving up before you get a true test of some of these amazingly strong bottles? Great video by the way!
try taping around the cap of the 2ltr and also add more rubber to prevent leakage
Would love to see this done to a sangria senorial and a square aloe vera bottle. Enjoyed the vids, keep it up 👍🏻
Awesome!! Would you try this again with bottles that have been shrunken down using hot water? (I poured boiling water into a 2L and it shrunk down, increasing wall thickness and strength for carbonating beverages)
Need metal hose clamp on caps... then redo and find out which is the most pressure durable plastic bottle...
Good solution, I was thinking about
tape or something, hose clamps would
deff work..
1:48 OMG THE ANTICIPATION!!
This is a valuable knowledge thank you that means the aerosol can must be able to hold more than 70 psi...
Cool experiment! Where did you get the red cap on the test stand? That is a good idea to avoid having to drill each cap and installing a valve stem each time. It kind of looks like a liquor bottle cap - heavy duty.
How loud is it when it goes?

Cool stuff :D Try to get a high speed camera!
Very good video. Although amateur work, it has some scientific value. Would be useful to know the water temperature and other factors like climate in order to put those numbers in a context. Temperature definitely affects pressure.
If you're just pressure testing them why even bother to put water in them?? Since water isn't compressible it just gets in the way of the test.
easier to show where it leaks
Of course you don't want your neighbors to think there's a bomb and report you to the police! Want to try it sir?
That's exactly why he filled it with water because it makes the testing much safer and quieter. That's why I hydraulics are much safer over compressed air systems.
Cool! Please repeat experiment with hot air. Bottles should expand like baloons.
Thanks for sharing these data.
have you ever tried a thick walled bottle like 1,5l from coca-cola? was wondering if a couple of them would make a great tank for my tankless airbrush compressor (rated at 60psi)
Put a metal hose clamp around the cap to reinforce it.
Would a hose clamp really work? How much extra pressure do you think it would take to blow off the cap if a hose clamp were used for support?
What would happen if they were full of air and they burst near my face? I'm thinking about making an air pressure tennis ball cannon, and what would happen if things went awry?
That orange juice jug was EPIC
very useful i know have no worries about using them in brewing.
Can you test these with air because water isn't very compressible
I've wondered, what happens if you wrap duct tape around it? Will it make it stronger?

Great idea, I'm going to have to make one. Quick question, what was that you used to remove the centre of the 2nd valve with?
+David Watts Its called a valve core remover or tire valve tool.
Interesting indeed.

Aluminum bottle? Glass bottle?
Use air instead if water
I did in another video! Here it is ........ruclips.net/video/vPje04ctUeY/видео.html
Great video, we popped some bottles with dry ice a couple of days ago. My mate reckons that some bottles will hold up to 400 PSI. I subbed.
I did another video in the summer and I used only compressed air this time. Have a watch ruclips.net/video/SDTvjJZlnR8/видео.html
you got to add more rubber under the caps and they will last longer
Subbed & liked, I often wondered what psi OLD plastic bottles can withstand, as I reuse it making soda, could you make a comparison of new and old ones? Thanks
I did another video using only compressed air on a bunch of different size bottles. They really make a bang!! ruclips.net/video/SDTvjJZlnR8/видео.html
nice sprinkler mate haha
Cool now do it with glass
Nice! Can you do it with 1.5 l CocaCola?
+Andy E I did another video with a bunch of bottles here. Thanks for commenting. ruclips.net/video/ltydNdKq8xk/видео.html

+pienkvien Hose clamp.
Amazing experiments
1. Interesting and probably useful for me, so thanks for making and posting this.
2. Where did you get the valve stems, and are they a particular kind to seal well to plastic bottle caps?
Thanks,
--Larry
They are just regular tubeless tire valve stems for a car. Drill a hole in the cap to accommodate the valve
@@chrisnotap Thanks much, I'm going to give this a try. FIngers crossed!
Id like to see what a Powerade and gatorade bottle could hold
what is this experiment called?
It's called an experiment.
Blowing up PET bottles.
Try a sodastream next
Nice experiment.
Thanks for sharing.
It's really surprising the amount of abuse plastic can withstand. I wonder what the burst would look like in high frame slow motion.
Try those .5L coke bottles and smaller!
Have a look. It more tests with a high pressure compressor. ruclips.net/video/SDTvjJZlnR8/видео.html
I didn't just like it , I loved the information
The wall on that small one was good at 175
I guess the neighbors won't appreciate using air this video. That was great with air dangerous tho
you should try bottle preforms they are way stronger
its funny im wincing like its really gonna explode in my face
Find a old 1 lb propane cylinder and do a hydro test for us .
If you had filled those bottles with hot water, it would have expanded and become a balloon.
Good video

1:40 that bulge by why you using water not air
water doesn't compress like air does

that was satisfied.
Now , test with hot water .
Now try with air
Capital work sir
another sprinkler :D
Well know I know why they’re called ”Pop bottles”
is this the rat trap guy?
Not sure it's me. I've made quite a few mouse traps yes. Made one rat trap.
