The watercolor Lantana in three different ways

- I had so much fun painting these little Lantana's on my Artisto pads, with my MeiLiangs., I hope you will give them a try! I offered three different techniques to paint them here.
📜For PAPER, I’ve used Meeden and Artisto for many years, and you’ll see me use one or the other in most of my tutorials. My Meeden paper suggestion is 100% cotton, has a really great texture and is finer grade. My Artisto paper recommendation is student grade, handles lots of water, (still good for wet on wet) and is a bit less expensive.

Missed your tutorials Debbie . Hope the mini break was all you hoped for . I’ve never seen this flower before , it’s very beautiful , and so is your painting . They grow in central and South America apparent . You are so lucky being in such a wonderful climate with all those amazing flowers .

These are so interesting aren't they, they are quite popular here, and grow wild into huge bushes covered with these little flowers. When I really look around I see so many flowers everywhere, some quite small and so common I tend to take them for granted! Julie, remind me where you live again? Happy painting friend.

@@julieb737 I hear it’s cloudy there a lot. It’s been quite a bit gloomier here believe it or not in sunny Southern California to be honest I’m a little over the June gloom.! lol

What a sweet little flower. I had to look them up because I've not heard of them before and to my surprise, they are related to Verbena, which I love and have in my garden here in England 🙂 X
Yes you are correct~ And so funny isnt it? I have had these around my entire life and they are so prevalent I suppose I just didnt notice them~ Hmmm.... I wonder what else im not seeing?? I *LOVE* Lantana flowers! I am most familiar with the lighter purple ones with orange and yellow.
The tiny bugs looked like sugar ants.
ARent they cute? so tiny, Yes, we have the little purple ones as well and all yellow. I think you may be right, I always shake my flowers as there have been a few times I was in the middle of painting one and a spider crawled out! lol

Oh Debbie, that is sooo pretty. I have a Lantana in a big pot as they would freeze in our cold Northern Nevada winter. I would have had no idea how to paint them so Thank You for that. Mine are not in bloom yet but when it is, I will be trying this..they are such pretty flowers for sure

Nice Debbie! The Lantana using Mei Liang paints is so vibrant and quite striking. I'm still loving that set of pigments and will give this practice a go. I've signed up for your brushes notification and looking forward to the release! 🙂

I love these flowers. I had them in my hangars last summer. My favorite color is orange too. I think they come in all different colors. I got some purple flowers. I wish I could send you some of my flower pics

I was looking closely at those bugs and they are mini ants. They open the little buds of the flowers. They chew a barrier on the bud itself, it's like a seal on the bud , so they chew that off and the fower opens! Isn't nature amazing??? ❤
Wow, Love those fun facts! I am always shaking the flowers I bring in as I have had an unexpected bug visitor on several occassions!
Ooohhhh!! JUST gave me an idea! Working with a limited palette Denise Soden announced for this month: New Gamboge (or other transparent warm yellow), cobalt teal (PG50 or PB28) and Quin Rose/Red (PV19). What shocked ME were the mixes I got! I’m doing a dragon painting with a muted “Misty morning” (PG50 + PV19) background with some teal highlights..and my dragon: yellow-bright orange-quin red dragon. I had one mix I didn’t think fit..the almost sap green the yellow & teal make.
Well, now I have another painting I can do…this flower! The red-orange-yellow flowers…and that sap green for the leaves…maybe I’ll do a muted sky background with the teal, toned down by just a bit of orange or red…🤔😂
My mind works faster than I can paint, unfortunately..😂.
So fun! And I had to chuckle because ive said that often, my mind goes much faster than I can paint! I have constant sticky notes everywhere of things I want to paint and share with you all. Your painting sounds fantastic. It was a lot of fun to use two color's mostly, and let them mix on the paper! Happy painting friend!

Interesting I was going to mention it. I use those white sponges that you clean walls with, and my white tennies too! They are quite handy. Here is a link for them I looked up for you. BTW, I have tried the cheaper version they dont work and fall apart~ I hope this helps

lol, These were little ones, I always shake my picked flowers to make sure, I've had some rather big things crawl out of them in the middle of painting!
