I love the extremely graphic beginning of the book! I previewed it, then instantly bought it on AmazonKindle (on my phone). I read at least 4 pages each night while working and doing schoolwork. Reading it at night time gives you chills! Maybe one day we get this movie OR even a series!! P.S.: The last fight had me on EDGE!! AWESOME DESCRIPTIONS OF THE ACTION!!!
This is one of my favourite horror novels, top5 for sure. It’s graphic and disturbing, the characters are interesting and have great dynamics, they’re competent but never feel like they’re not in danger. The style is captivating keeping you hooked while going through such repulsive subject matter. It’s wonderfully messed up. Just the opening is equal parts horrifying and mesmerising properly setting up how out of their element even the most competent humans are
Hey guys- great review! I bought this book a couple of years back, and even though most of the reviews I had seen were pretty unflattering, I’ve been a fan of Barker’s writing since around 1988, and really wanted to give it a chance. I’m so glad that I did- I never thought that D’Amour and Pinhead would ever cross paths, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. His fleshing out (no pun intended 😉) of Hell and all of the characters’ interaction was a joy to read. I always love little bits of obscure details in stories like this, such as the names of all of the grimoires and their authors that were being gathered up. It’s reminiscent of Lovecraft naming off the various books that his characters seem to be familiar with (“Unausprechlichen Kulten”, “The Book of Eibon”, “The Pnakotic Manuscript”, and of course the “Necronomicon”), that really fills out the idea that these books truly exist in that world. I really enjoyed the book, and have read it a few times- it’s actually on my list of books to be reread (I think it’s #3 or 4 on there). On a mostly unrelated note, when I got this book, I bought another the same day, and since I read one right after the other, I can’t think of one without the other tagging along. The book’s title is “God’s Demon”, by Wayne Barlowe- he’s well known as a visual artist, and I don’t know of any other books he has written- well, actually, there is one, called “Barlowe’s Guide to Extraterrestrials”, which is completely illustrated by him. I don’t know if he wrote the text, but the artwork is phenomenal. He also does concept art for movies and such- I remember that his designs featured in “Hellboy II: The Art of the Movie”. You can see his artwork on his website, specifically the Hell and Demon related stuff, which is just amazing- that’s the world that “God’s Demon” takes place in. The imagery is so cool, and like I said, I can’t see it without thinking about Barker. Sorry to go off on a tangent, but I think you guys would enjoy the book, and definitely the artwork as well. Thanks again for the great video- I hope that you and all of your loved ones are safe and healthy, and that you have a great holiday season. See you next year!
I know I’m really late but it’s an amazing Clive Barker book and it’s in my top five of best ones he did. The plot and characters were outstanding while I was completely entertained with it, and I would want to see this be made into a movie but of course it would be nearly impossible and I actually don’t think it’s gonna happen because it would be so easy to screw up and it would really worry me of how they are gonna get Lucifer’s character right, and if this is somehow made into a movie I only ask for it to be a sequel to just Hellraiser 1&2 completely ignoring all the other films which I know sounds weird but it would make a better Hellraiser 3 than the one we really got. But that aside I loved the characters, Pinhead, the journey through hell, and it was definitely perfect.
The only review we have is my review of the Cabal cut, which I actually ended up LOVING after not enjoying the movie as much the first time I watched it. ruclips.net/video/nMm6WG6cCcM/видео.html btw Seth, look for your Patreon requests on every full moon of each month going forward! It's only appropriate. lol Late Phases is Jan, the Wolves will likely be Feb.
@@TheHorrorShowChannel Nice! I'll have to watch that Nightbreed review later! lol, that's awesome! I forgot to put in a request for last month! Looking forward to these!
You'll get a tad more out of it if you have seen LORD OF ILLUSIONS or read the short it was based on, but I honestly don't think it's ultimately necessary. If you dig HELLRAISER this book is bad ass Dan!
@@JaimeEnFuego thanks, Fuego. Is the short story in one of the Books of Blood? I read volumes 1 - 3 earlier this year and really loved them. It may be easier to just watch the film, though.
@@danielcorey2156 Believe it's in the 6th Volume, but if you've never seen LORD OF ILLUSIONS that would probably be better. Scott Bakula is great in the role.
Fuego, if those were the parts that you found the most interesting, I really recommend the book God’s Demon by Wayne Barlowe. It’s a very imaginative book that takes place in hell. You’ll dig it! Trust me. Also. Google some of his artwork to see his visual style.
Just finished it and I was pleasantly surprised the direction of this book compared to the first. Is cabal worth reading even though I just read this book? Did I spoil something for myself?
i really loved that book dood, there were parts i didn't like --- the first one was the best, i'll stop by later, i'm sure there's another hell book i'm into, the doom series doesn't take place in mars though, it's all "i'm from iraq" totally worth skipping
Thanks for this. Clive Barker's imaginings and prose are amazing and so I'll audiobook The Scarlet Gospels 😮

Thanks for the review guys. I'm all over this. Going to suggest it for a group read! Merry Christmas

love this story ... more than the hell bound hart. It gave me almost 300 more pages of what I wanted.

Have you guys considered taking on the different cuts of Nightbreed and its novel Cabal?

Cabal was more a Nightbreed story than Hellraiser I believe, so you should be ok.
@@TheHorrorShowChannel sorry I meant Lord of Illusions, I was looking at both and got them mixed up. Anyway that was an awesome review of the book.
i'll keep reading

Just read it. The descriptions are awesome but the dialogue sucks.
Well, poop, you probably just cost me money.
It'll be worth it!
1st half of the book was good but the second part was disappointing I felt it was written by 2 different people.
David Harbour would be a great Harry D'Amour
