but you put the part on V Block, means base is considering as a datum... if the base that has been placed on V block is not parallel to top surface then how will we check starightness? according to me the side which straighness is to be checked should be place on V block and in the groove area we should take puppy dial gauge and check the deviation.

Parallelism is a whole Surface Function and this parameter requires a datum reference against which Parallelism is measured. While in Straightness no datum is required and it is only a line function (in a straight line path) like profile of a line so it is a independent parameter. Thanks

Straightness is a one dimensional feature which is only measured over a length but Flatness is the feature of a whole plane and runout work for circular part mostly for solid part whereas cylindricity measured for only clylindrical form. And cylindricity is a 3 Dimensional feature which is a combined result of circularity, cincentricity and taper
