I grew up near there. I'm glad they were able to preserve the history.

It is comforting to see a love of history in one so young. Thank you for sharing your trips to so many Virginia historical sites.

Chris - thank you for this video. It is my first time seeing it. I have been to Oatlands twice - in the 1990's. I have a 4x6 photo of the mansion on the vanity in my bathroom. Those were the days when we had cameras that used 35mm film that we developed at the drug store. Stilson Hutchins, founder of the Washington Post newspaper, purchased the property from the Carters in 1897. The Eustice daughters donated the property to the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Daughter Margaret's husband, David Finley, was the found of the NTHP.

Joan beauregard Williams lived at little oatlands. Joan was the great granddaughter of Pierre beauregard, civil war general. Her sister, Suzanne beauregard taught me to ride and was a life long friend of my mothers. Joan died in 2014.
