- Video on how to check a capacitor easily. Find the right setting on your meter and know what to look for as it is very easy to do. This applies to all kinds of capacitors as well. If you're looking for a good meter, I highly recommend the Klein tools CL 700. It is a great meter and durable. Remember to be careful when checking capacitors as they hold a charge.

I have the 600. I love it. It blows my mind how many people have no interest in this. I went all in 8 years ago and I do quite well. I encourage anyone who is watching this to learn as much as you can. Ditch your $18 an hour job, go make $500 a day.
$500 a day? My dude. People are paying $500 a visit. They don't know anything about capacitors or hvac repair.
Every time I hire an electrician or HVAC person, they often just do the job good enough to leave as fast as they can and collect $$$. I've learned much about fixing appliances and replacing components around the house and saved thousands in the process. Great video.
This should be taught in High School to everyone!
👍Agreed!
Lots of other subjects need to be in high school just the same....one of them is common sense.
@@Garth2011 sorry but, I agree lots of other subjects but, if you truly understand Compounding an the Power it has with age you’ll agree it should be!
With it out savings rate would increase dramatically!
Thanks for explantions. Very clear and too the point. New subscriber!
Thanks for doing this video. Well presented. I hope Klein Tools will sponsor you in the future.
Appreciate your kind words 🙏.
Sticker on capacitor also gives the plus/minus range, which on this one appears to be 5%. So the range is 52.5 to 57.5
Appreciate you pointing that out.
Very detailed instruction. Thanks.
Best explained Thank you sir
Great video man thanks a lot!
No problem at all
Yes, I love all my Klein meters!
Makes 2 of us Mark.
Interesting video, thanks
Your welcome
Thank you!
Your welcome Paul, thank you as well.
Excellent knowledgeable video 👍 I subscribed your channel. Thank you Sir
Appreciate your kind words. Thank you for taking the time to watch it.
THANK you
Thank you as well
Good job man
Thank you Mark
That capacitor barely squeaks by on the compressor side. I would replace it.
Very true however, if your capacitor is reading below the rated mfd but within the tolerance of 10%, I would replace it. If the meter reading is 2 or 3 mfd below, I'd keep it but any more than that simply suggests it is on its way out and since they are not all that expensive to replace, its much better on the electric motors and compressors to run caps that are fresh. The worst idea in replacing capacitors is to source less expensive brands in the $15 or less category for a dual run type because they are likely China products that many folks in the industry call Chinesium. They will not last long, maybe 2 years or so. Buy the good brand that are made in the USA such as AMRAD, MARS etc. since you are doing the same amount of work and most of us would rather not do it over in just 2 years or so due to a cheap cap from Red China.
Good point, appreciate you pointing that out. 👍
Why does the clamp meter read (.04) before you take any reading? Shouldn't it read (.00)?
Hi can you assist me on how to use an Controleur cda 770 omegah meter.
Clamp meters are easy to hang on stuff so you can read them and test lead clamp connectors or clips are well worth the money.
Good point, clamp leads are easier it seems in certain situations.
@@jdtools6038 They make good connections and free-up your hands.
Will check them out, thank you. They would have been good for the video too. Just didn't think about them at the time.
@@jdtools6038 Only been doing this for about fifty years and I still buy new ones in different sizes and you need enough of them so you don't always have to look for them. I have a Fluke 373.
👍
There should be just one round capacitor on the outside compressor? Correct?
Sometimes there might be 2 capacitors that are linked with a jumper wire. Even on blower motors. Also, there might be a jump starter kit for compressor that looks like a capacitor too and wired into it as well. But should be black. But for the most part yes only one.
My compressor is 38.78 (C+ herm) with 4.78( c+ fan) is mine still good? (Product is 40uf + 5uf)
Yes, I think you mean capacitor. But, it's still good.
Discharge the capacitor before taking off not after taking it off.
Where do you recommend I buy this klein tools meter?
I would personally go through Amazon. But up to you. There should be a link in description box below video that will take you straight to Amazon.
@@jdtools6038 an affiliate Link for you?
Yes
i could be wrong. I learned "Herm" was short for hermetically (as is in sealed). Not sure, but that's what I learned.
Hermetic compressor

I have the same m the 700 is a deal,,👍
Glad to here that!
The proper way to discharge a capacitor, it to put your meter on DC and it will drain the capacitor properly. Doing it his way is very very dangerous.
"The multimeter isn't used directly to discharge the stored energy of a capacitor. Instead, people use it to measure the voltage and power of the capacitor to know whether it is fully released or not."
The proper way is a 1000ohm resistor, the Industrial course teaches to discharge with a screwdriver while de-energized and still wired before you touch it. Ive discharged thousands of Cap's this way over the last 36yrs without issue.
@matt123231 Put your meter on DC and touch two leads of a capacitor and watch what happens, then come back and comment.

HE WAS CORRECT SHOWING YOU HOW TO CHECK TO SEE IF IT GOOD OR BAD ( “”” BUT”””) HE DIDN’T INFORM YOU THAT ITS A DAMN GOOD IDEA TO SHORT THE TERMINALS ON THE CAPACITOR W/ A SCREWDRIVER SO YOU DON’T SHOCK THE SHIT OUT OF ( YO) SELF, CAPACITORS TIN TO HOLD A ELECTRICAL CHARGE. ⚡️⚡️💥☄️zoom
