I was a big fan of the Divergent movies, and he played Will, opposite Zoe Kravitz. Will was a good, sweet character and he really impressed me, though it took me a minute to make the connection when I first saw him ❤️ He's done lots of theatre, but he's never been a leading man in a show with this kind of audience and of this calibre as far as I know. He's gaining fans who will follow him anywhere, and I feel like the sky is the limit for someone with his talent.
@@susanfirth9883 I did learn after initially seeing him in Sanditon that he was in Divergent but I’ve never watched that series. His look there is much more boyish than as Colbourne so not sure I would have recognized him anyway like you said. 🙂 I just want him to always play Austen-esque heroes from now on though. 😂 If he gets a big boost of fame from this, he supremely deserves it.
Am I the only one that wishes Regency wear would come back in style? I do not know who is in the costume department but they have excelled in dressing these actors. Thank you, Susan, for another beautiful video 😉.

Skilfully and beautifully done, Susan. The casting and individual acting performances in Sanditon are top notch and the storylines so well crafted especially in Season 2. Every aspect of production is of the highest standard.
So beautiful! I just love it!❤️ ‘Stay’ is one of my favourite songs. The lyrics encompass perfectly the dynamic between A & C. Their relationship is going in circles at the moment, but hopefully their love for each other will be enough to endure the obstacles ahead. Thanks for sharing! ☺️🌹

Exceptional! Your entire channel is great. We all really appreciate your Charlotte and Alexander playlists. It'll help me get through the Sanditon void for the next year. 🙂
Thank you so much! And I'm so glad everyone is enjoying and using the playlists. I swear by them. There's something about seeing the whole story play out without distractions, and we so seldom get that in ensemble shows and movies ❤️
First they need stop from getting in their way before irreparable damage is done ..everything up his point can be fixed...we hope 🙏 I cannot wait until season. 3....this is the worst🥶😢😀
Thank you, this is beautifully done. I think JA would be very pleased with how the producers have respected her inimitable style! I know they have finished filming season 3 so I hope they haven’t closed the door on further seasons! I haven’t been this besotted with a series since BBCs Pride and Prejudice. I love all the nods to her previous works in the script. Not sure how I will fill the void until Season 3!
So beautifully done!!! I am new to Sanditon, but have always been a fan of jane austen works... I was wondering if someone can make a music with the dynasty song.. Although I really hope S3 we will have them together!!
I’m on my 3rd watch through in 3 weeks and this time my husband (the rare man who actually likes Jane Austen) is watching with me. We got to the end of episode 2 and he says “He keeps lecturing her and she keeps sassing him but he’s not going to fire her because he LiKES it.” 😂😂😂
Lol yess also think he is so lonely that he wants her attention/affections and he can see immediately that she's a kind person and likes her, that he is accepting of her different perspectives/opinions, /hence of HER as a person, friend/lady/potential romantic partner! Bc that's all.he wants I think, love/friendship (like anyone!?), and knows that's what you must do to develop a 2 way relationship. She kind of sass talks but it also sounds like just having a convo/talking equally which he likes/respects ;) and she's saying her thoughts/opinion to try to level a man whose opinions might be too uppity/ conformist to society (prob from his past w/lucy :/) . But she's also nice/kind the other times when she talks so he knows she's not rude really but good/kind person, then in turn he softens and caved and does what she says, bc he knows she's right lol or just loves her 😉😊😍.
If you have one of the rare husbands who likes Jane Austen, I think you've got a keeper. I have a friend at church, and we like to talk Sanditon. One Sunday her husband popped out with "I like Mr. Darcy."
@@lisatea5779 I am definitely very thankful! It’s funny to get the insight of guys. That’s so funny about your friend’s husband! I think a lot of guys would find Darcy cool!
Susan, I am a new subscriber, been watching your many videos after bingewatching Sanditon 2 last weekend, as it is now on ITV channel in the UK to stream! Sooooo glad they found a way to bring the series back after it was cancelled. I have soooo much to comment on the nuances of the relationship developing between Charlotte and Mr Colbourne! But I might save those for a further post! 😂😂 Mainly, I wanted to suggest a fantastic song for one of your future videos of them perhaps, I think it is absolutely beautiful for them, you may know of it, 'YOUR SOUL' by Rhodes. It so matches their lingering gazes. Interactions and longing for one another. Another fab tune for them is by Tom Odell 'ANOTHER LOVE'.. It perfectly speaks of their apprehension of giving their hearts to each other following previous heartbreak. the piano chords are amazing! Loving your work Susan (and so many fab comments from many on here!)
I could get used to it and get weak in the knees at the same time! Ben has the swagger, vulnerability, ice and heat so perfectly. I would gladly step in as Rose Williams stunt double for the kissing scenes ☺️
No lie, when Charlotte said she and Ralph are getting married I was like “oh hell no, I rebuke this in the name of Jesus!” 😂😂😂. Xander, come get your girl back !!! He better open up and let her in or I will throw hands! Not to mention, it’s almost cruel to deprive her of his extremely wonderful kissing?!!? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 . I can’t believe we have to endure another year before we get Heybourne back! 😭😭😭
I love this song and the lyrics "Well, funny you're the broken one. But I'm the only one who needed saving" seem especially apt for Mr. Colbourne and Charlotte Heywood. I'm terrified that S3 might not give us what we all want. After being twice burned, I'm more than twice shy. Can these male writers adapt a Jane Austen novel without Jane's clever plotting as a guide? They've got her witty repartee down pat, but do they understand a Jane-Ite's soul? Jane would tease at keeping the lovers apart but would never have written an ending like S1 or S2.
I believe his pinky ring is called a signet ring which is always worn on the pinky finger. It's usually gold with an emblem, family crest, initials etched or carved in to it. Most often it is worn by males. Sometimes its passed down in families but often it is one that was made for them. I don't believe it has anything to do with Lucy but it may be his father's so perhaps that's why he fiddles with it sometimes. I remember seeing people with wearing this style ring many, many years ago when I was young. I haven't noticed one being worn in a long while though.
I think actors love having something they can use as an indicator of nervousness or really any emotion that can be conveyed wordlessly. Ben uses that ring so well. In the Garden Party scene, and then again as he's telling Charlotte his story with Lucy. I'm sure we'll see it again. To me it shows Xander's vulnerability ❤️
@@susanfirth9883 I agree. It's his stress release. Something he uses to self sooth and probably doesn't realize that he does it (Colbourne not Ben). You know that the actor has drawn you into the story when all these little details are noticed by the audience. Lol!
@@susanfirth9883 I was thinking that it might have been Lucy's ring, but guess I'm wrong. It does look like the Signet ring that was in Sydney"s returned belongings that Tom put on his finger, so it must be a family heirloom as you and others have stated.
Round and round. Up and down. Cold and hot. Back and forth! Ugh, I’m still sad and upset! It could have been nice to end it as Charlotte spent the past 2 months with Ralph and realized, after 2 bad experiences (where she probably knew Sidney and Xander for a shorter amount of time) that the best guy for her is the guy that has been around her her whole entire life, and now more than ever she appreciates and love him. That’s the Hallmarkie side of me talking. Thanks Susan for the Charlotte and Xander memories!
Interesting point I'm conflicted because Ralph seems like a sweetheart but the audience barely knows him...and just because you grow up with someone doesn't necessarily make them the safer bet if you will...but it does seem like he is adorable. The problem is there I'd no passion like with Alexander. I am worried though because Xander is a man of integrity BUT Charlottle is now officially engaged and I'm wondering how he's now going to react. He will have to break his own rules if he wants Charlottle!

Fantasy Sanditon S3: What does season 3 hold for Sanditon? I share with you here my Future History of Sanditon. It is 1821: Big-hearted TOM goes nearly bankrupt by taking a large business risk with yet another person whose character he judges based solely on assumptions, but a new partner, recognizing Mary’s natural but untapped business acumen, saves him with the insertion of Mary into management and financial decisions. Tom continues further work on spine development. ESTHER flourishes at home with Clara’s baby and Babington’s quirky humor and unwavering support. They are no-nonsense folks who enjoy life. We see more of this new Esther, but future Emmy-awarded Spencer’s master class in the roll of the eye and that perfection of a facial expression as the garden party guests return their undesired dessert dishes have come to an end, and we miss the old Esther greatly. GEORGIANA’s self-assurance grows after she unloaded the con artist and discovers her life’s purpose. She purchases a nearby estate, and runs the Antigua Center as a retreat and salon for writing and poetry, theatre and the arts, architecture and building crafts. Young Stringer runs the latter group. Sparks? The buildings and gardens are full of performances and sculpture and art classes. A century later, Georgiana’s descendants will donate the property with endowments to the National Trust, and it remains an international center for the arts to this day. THE TWO COMEDIANS find a small property near Sanditon, where Alison has some success in publishing her poems and she teaches at Georgiana’s salon. Declan trains in veterinary practices and travels near and far to tend to sick animals. The romance is strong with these two. Her old flame William visits, but Alison has never questioned that she made the right decision. Throughout their lives, Alison and Fraser will often steal away from the children for a kiss or more. The house is full of laughter and music and much singing and dancing, and the children inherit Declan’s dry wit and grow to excel as equestrians. SAMUEL COLBOURNE has been released from prison and his return to the area causes great trouble for his brother’s family. RICHARD HEYWOOD, the third oldest of the siblings, comes to live with the Parkers and works assisting Arthur with his royal theatre and sometimes at the Antigua Center. He’s a bit enchanted by Augusta... CHARLOTTE marries and, I’d like to say that after reading Wollstonecraft, she decides to keep her surname, except it’s probably not feasible since through marriage, she actually becomes her husband’s property in the eyes of the law. Some legal historian can have a go at that idea. She has her own office in Heyrick Park now as she is business partner with Tom and Mary. It collects the clutter of family activities, insect collections, butterfly chrysalises behind netting, sheet music, books, dogs. Her first project is a library for the town and she works closely on it with Arthur and Stringer. They all butt heads on some of the architectural decisions. One day in season 5, she and AC unexpectedly leave their offices at the same time, and they bless us with the Eighteenth Kiss scene. ALEXANDER, her husband, continues the work he had been doing (quill-penning BLH BLH?), and agrees to sell to the butcher shop, strengthening ties with Sanditon. Surrounded by his loving family, he heals and matures, discovering an ability to give and receive boundless love. He pours himself into his attention and care for his wife and makes up for so much lost time with his daughters. Together they dance, make music, play games, laugh. He delights in the lessons from CH on being a Better Father, and ignores the local gossip that such attention to children is beneath a man and such an independent and capable wife is a threat to his manhood. He cannot help himself. He is more spellbound by his love for Charlotte each passing day, and he is never bereft again. Babies? AUGUSTA thrives in her family, as she too is in need of healing from the upheaval of her life. She loves to read and dance and sing, and she conquers her bitterness. She loves their family dinners when they create stories together, each person adding the next chapter. Much frivolity ensues, and guests delight in joining in. She visits with the two comedians or Georgiana or the Parkers. AC surprises her with a gift of her own Cleveland Bay, and teaches her to ride and care for the horse. They become close, and he is a Better Father to her. They talk. They laugh. They write silly little poems together. One day, out on the grounds with poetry books in hand, AC picks her some cornflowers and apologizes to her for how poorly he had treated her in the past. Her self-assurance grows. Sometimes, she rides Clarabelle to nearby towns with Declan to assist him on difficult cases. She discovers a competence in herself she had not known before. One day, AM is riding Clarabelle and sees smoke in the woods on the edge of the property. She goes closer to see and encounters a man in a small camp. He has stolen and butchered some of their pigs. He lunges at her with a knife and they struggle, but she remains on her horse and gets away. Declan treats Clarabelle’s wounds and Mrs. Wheatley treats hers. AM tells AC that she has never seen this man before. AC rides to the camp and finds his brother there. He also returns home injured and Nurse Wheatley cares for his wounds too. I’m exhausted. Can we just have the gendarmes haul Samuel away? LENNOX had watched from the tent in the army camp near Sanditon the emotional hug that AC gave his daughter, and he stored that away in his memory. Upon his return from India in 1824, Lennox sues AC in the court in London for custody of LC, not out of interest in fatherhood, but rather, with malicious and vindictive intent. When the suit is filed, the courts remove LC from her home and put her into interim “care” in a child’s prison. AC is paralyzed by grief and terror and anger and fear for his daughter. When Lennox realizes he will not be winning his lawsuit, he secretly uses army connections to gain entrance to the prison and hires nefarious parties (see Leo below) to abduct Leo. Although she has seen Lennox before and could identify him, he fully expects she will never see the light of day in England again. I feel sick just writing this. Major General Lennox dies in captivity in Formosa during the Opium War in about 1839. LEO COLBOURNE is such a powerful presence, she deserves a storyline all her own, played by the same magnificent actor as she grows. In 1824, she is abducted (see Lennox above) to be sold into servitude in Philadelphia. She brings a good price because she’s physically strong, well-educated for a girl and a good hunter. She uses her natural observational skills as she takes small actions to get herself back home. She lays traps, she listens, she gets a message to her father, and leaves the bread crumbs he needs to find her with the small band of Seneca camped at the confluence of Turtle Creek and the Monongahela River in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. She flashes a mirror from the edge of the forest and is buried in a tearful endless hug from her Better Father. 30 days later they depart Philadelphia on the packet ship Constitution, and will be at the Waterloo Docks in Liverpool by the next month. This world-weary child does not leave her Better Father’s side until they arrive back home at Heyrick Park, but this is driven by wisdom, not by fear. She will become an archetype of feminine intellect and power, a pioneer, not in a sit-at-the-desk field, but in a dirt-under-the-fingernails field. She is the World Mother of Nellie Bly and Mary Kingsley and Amelia Earhart. She was born in about 1812. What could that field be? Mountaineering? Exploration? TBD. Justin, what say you? MRS. WHEATLEY remains the bedrock of the family, and we delightfully get to see more of her. She is their strong and quiet guardian, gently helping AC in emotional course adjustment when self-recrimination sneaks back in and when further stories of his abusive childhood arise. THE THREE WHO ARE BONDED IN SISTERHOOD and their families often gather on Sunday afternoons for picnics and games like bocce and cricket, laughing and storytelling; babies in baskets in the shade of the ash trees, kids running with the dogs, exploring in the woods and climbing trees and catching bugs and playing in the muck. Lady Susan and her family travel to visit them when they can. She brings her son, Francis, who is home from the Sorbonne for a visit. Time for some French practice - he is Augusta’s age… MISS HANKINS opens a fabric and notions shop next to the dressmaker. The front room hosts meetings of the Sanditon Book Club and the darning circle meets in the back room where it quietly tends to all manner of women’s health.
Where to begin? I want all of this ❤️ I would tweak here and there, and Leonora’s story would change slightly (although it would make for great drama of the “darkly grim Jane Eyre” variety) but I can only hope Justin Young reads RUclips comments 🥰 Thank you! ❤️
@Elizabeth Kennedy Alexander and Samuel’s father was a drunk, and he beat and abused his sons. AC is a teetotaler; recall that he refuses the offer of some champagne from a servant as he enters Lady D’s garden party, and remember his comment to Lady D. at the party, “I am nothing like my father.” SC, on the other hand, has taken after their father and then some. He is a drunkard, and his rap sheet has almost the full history of Regency era crime in it: public drunkenness; thievery; breaking and entering; assault and battery; running prostitution rings; pickpocketing. But his last and longest prison sentence was for an assault in the St. Giles rookery in London, where he otherwise could usually be found, scraping by on his schemes and deception.
Oh Mary why can't I see your reply and update to Samuel and the Murder in the Rookery. He sounded such a scoundrel and still laughing at the thought Alexander has a degenerate brother.
To Susan, a little P.S. clarification here, with my apologies (sometimes I write too fast !) -- Re: what I stated: "In my opinion, re: modern day composer-lyricists, Jason Robert Brown is the best of the best in America." Yes, to me, Jason Robert Brown IS the best of the best composer-lyricists ON BROADWAY. And thank YOU for enlightening me on Pop Music songs -- I fear I only know old ones -- but you're getting me up to speed, here -- THANK YOU !!!!!!! Red Heart emoji !!! Wink emoji !!!
I understood what you were saying, but thank you for the clarification ❤️ I listened to the song, and I am a great lover of Broadway shows (in fact, in December I went to NY to see a friend and we saw 8 shows in 10 days! Heaven!). I love the song. What I've discovered in making these videos is that there is a balance that needs to happen between the dramatic feel of the song, the story I'm trying to tell and the video that brings it together. Broadway songs are generally BIG and this one is no exception -- I feel at this point it might overwhelm Xander and Charlotte's story, which is very fragile right now. But the song is definitely going on my list, and I hope you'll keep bringing them to me if they feel right ❤️
@@susanfirth9883 Hi Susan, What a total treat to read your message. Ummmm: seeing 8 Broadway shows in 10 days??? THAT IS SO PHENOMENALLY AMAZING !!! TOTALLY LOVE IT !!!! What I really appreciate is you describing your creative process when putting together the music videos; in your words, that balance between the dramatic feel of the song, the story you are trying to tell, and the video that brings it together. That is beautifully expressed and gives such insight into your artistry. Because as we have said before, your music videos are Works of Art to watch, to listen to, to reflect on, to admire, and to adore -- OF COURSE I understand that “All the Wasted Time” might not lend itself to a music video; that makes a lot of sense to me. But the fact that you love the song makes me so happy -- WINK EMOJI. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL, AND I AM WELL AWARE THAT GETTING THROUGH THIS YEAR AHEAD IN ANTICIPATION OF THE CHARLOTTE / XANDER STORY IS THANKS TO YOU AND THE BEST YOU TUBE CHANNEL IN THE UNIVERSE !!! P.S. Computer emojis: where are you when I need you ???? RED HEART EMOJI !!!

Thank you for creating these videos - especially this one. This is one of my favorite songs. Have you listened to the Thirty Seconds To Mars version? It seems more intense with a male voice.
I would love to see them work things out relatively quickly. We know they see each other at the party or Ball in the teaser, and we know they meet on the cliffs and have an emotional conversation from the BTS photos. We know from interviews that their HEA is strongly favored and that Ralph is not Charlotte's forever love. I believe that Lady Susan and Georgiana will be instrumental with advice/matchmaking. My possible scenario is for Ralph to actually be in love with one of Charlotte's younger sisters and that he is acting out of duty as well. I would love to hear that conversation when they both finally are honest with each other. That would give a HEA for everyone, and wouldn't compromise Charlotte's values by having her break Ralph's heart to secure her own happiness. My hope is that we get to see some Heybourne family life with the girls, but the Jane Austen norm is a wedding at the end of the season. We've had Esther/Babington in S1, and Alison/Fraser in S2. I think we'll probably get a Char/Xander wedding at the end of S3. For Georgiana's story, I think finding her mother will be primary, and she may end up a single, independent woman. Justin Young, the head writer, has confirmed that Arthur is gay, so although many would like to see them married, they will be be the best and closest of friends. Arthur has been a wonderful, steadfast compass for Georgiana. A twist that might be very interesting is finding out that Mrs. Wheatley is a freed slave and that she is actually Georgiana's mother, but that might be a little too out there. But I think we'll learn more about Xander's upbringing, and we know from costume tags BTS, that we will meet his brother, Samuel. Another thing to keep in mind is that no one has ruled out more seasons. If we get S4 or S5, it could be that there are long-term plans for showing their blended family and perhaps a love story/arc for Augusta, and (please!) a child of their own, since Xander doesn't actually have any children. Sorry, that's a lot, but you asked! 😂 ❤️
The Sanditon sleuths on Twitter are amazing. A costumer posted a BTS photo of a rack of costumes, and they zoomed into the handwritten tags pinned to the costumes. One of them said "Samuel Colbourne," and Xander mentioned in Charlotte's interview that he had a brother. ❤️
I am enjoying your videos. I love heybourne’s second kiss almost as much as their first, but didn’t he just kiss his dog right before? Makes me think of the Peanuts comic strip.
@@susanfirth9883 Good points! I legitimately cannot make up my mind! I LOVE kiss under the tree! It’s so emotional and passionate (surprises himself, I think). BUT the couch kiss choreo just pushes all my feelsy buttons! I read a quote from BLH saying that that scene got delayed so he had extra time to figure out just how it should go. And boy does it show. 😍 I watch them both on the daily so no need to actually choose one or the other I suppose but I just like knowing how others think. This group gives me life!
Both are important Couch, because it is the First Kiss and alexander opens up, the comment he makes about being afraid of what charlotte would think is just heatmelting. Under the tree kiss is important because charlette in reverse opens up and in return and gives alexander green light. I wish we had little more insight as what happened that night after the kiss,, but whatever transpired, it made the "under the tree" kiss natural conclusion. If i need to pick one, definitely the Couch kiss because both, charlotte and alexander take a chance of a lifetime. That kiss set the course for the the next chapters of their forever intertwined lives.
Dear Susan, I love all your music videos. They are all brilliant & extraordinary and I love watching / listening to them often. I have an idea for a song that I treasure, but I’m honestly not sure it would be workable for a music video. First of all, the premise in the song is that the romantic couple is sharing a moment together, and we know that will not happen for our dear Charlotte & Xander for a long time…like in 2023 !!! The song is called “All the Wasted Time” by Jason Robert Brown from the profoundly moving musical “Parade” of 1999. The Broadway show was directed by Hal Prince. In my opinion, re: modern day composer-lyricists, Jason Robert Brown is the best of the best in America. I hope the you tube link to “All the Wasted Time” will work. The performances by Brent Carver and Carolee Carmello are superb, in my view. ruclips.net/video/z9wGU0r6yso/видео.html And again, I totally understand if this song (4:41) would not be appropriate for a music video for a variety of reasons. I’m just so glad to share the song with you and others. Thank you ! Emoji red heart !

I’m on my 3rd watch through in 3 weeks and this time my husband (the rare man who actually likes Jane Austen) is watching with me. We got to the end of episode 2 and he says “He keeps lecturing her and she keeps sassing him but he’s not going to fire her because he LiKES it.” 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
@@aprilrose6630 Yes, the word “sass” was used by my husband, not me. Haha! I was a bit more nuanced in my interpretation. 😄

Considering S3 episode 3....I think you need to do another video with this song 😉
Can't wait to see if Xander is still wearing the pinky ring in Season 3!!! What say you Susan?
Yes, I think that was probably from his father or maybe a beloved grandfather. It’s like a touchstone for him. I doubt he’ll ever take it off ❤️
I believe his pinky ring is called a signet ring which is always worn on the pinky finger.

It is 1821:
Big-hearted TOM goes nearly bankrupt by taking a large business risk with yet another person whose character he judges based solely on assumptions, but a new partner, recognizing Mary’s natural but untapped business acumen, saves him with the insertion of Mary into management and financial decisions.
Time for some French practice - he is Augusta’s age…
MISS HANKINS opens a fabric and notions shop next to the dressmaker.
Phew!!!! I would watch😀

To Susan, a little P.S. clarification here, with my apologies (sometimes I write too fast !) -- Re: what I stated: "In my opinion, re: modern day composer-lyricists, Jason Robert Brown is the best of the best in America." I understood what you were saying, but thank you for the clarification ❤️ I listened to the song, and I am a great lover of Broadway shows (in fact, in December I went to NY to see a friend and we saw 8 shows in 10 days!

That is beautifully expressed and gives such insight into your artistry. Because as we have said before, your music videos are Works of Art to watch, to listen to, to reflect on, to admire, and to adore --

Thank you for creating these videos - especially this one. This is one of my favorite songs. Have you listened to the Thirty Seconds To Mars version? It seems more intense with a male voice.
I will check that out! ❤️ Thank you.
What exactly do YOU want to see in the new season, Susan, as far as plot points/timeline? 🙂
@@susanfirth9883 Love your scenario!
@@susanfirth9883 where are you finding this BTS stuff? Like the bit about Xander's brother--I haven't seen anything about that

Charlotte grew up on a farm. I’m sure she’s kissed plenty of animals all on her own. 🤪
Hat tip to the casting director exquisite taste in men Just saying!
POLL TIME!
Which kiss is better and WHY:
1. Kiss on couch
2. Kiss under tree
Kiss under tree 🥰 He’s rightly tentative in the first kiss because he needs to wait and see if she’s willing. The second time he just GOES for it 🔥🔥 🥰
@@susanfirth9883 Good points!
Both are important
Couch, because it is the First Kiss and alexander opens up, the comment he makes about being afraid of what charlotte would think is just heatmelting.
There are no wrong answers 😂 ❤️
@@susanfirth9883 No indeed. Haha! I’m sorry for my overactive commenting. 😁 I’m just really excited and have no one to gush with. 🤪
