church halls are separate from the Church and are generally used for community activities, also I do think you should realise this is not a documentary it is pure entertainment. Just enjoy the best English comedy ever written and accept there may be quirks and artistic license withing the plots and scripts. Happy new year for 2023.

I too am working my way through all episodes even though I have seen all TV episodes when they were originally screened in the 70s.
They wanted a Bible to swear on, they hadn't got one , they were in a church hall? 😊
