Why did it take me a over a year to find this video. Every video i find is for music or singing. This one is great, concise and to the point. Thank you!
Previously, if someone asked me "What is EQ?" I wouldn't know how to respond. No one has ever laid this information out clearly...until now. The VO Tech Guru's course is a game changer!
I’m just listening to this video while driving for now, but the info is so clear and and concise, I will definitely be saving this to use later on to tune my stuff at home
If anyone’s undecided on taking the full course, I highly recommend that you do, especially for voice over work. This course has taken my audio quality from average to stellar! I lacked confidence in audio editing and even questioned my own hearing. After taking this course I have cut my audio editing time tremendously. Whereas before when it would take an hour to edit, it now only takes 10 minutes (with confidence) and we all know that less time editing means more time recording, which equals more income. This course pays for itself over & over again. Jump on this before the price goes up, seriously!
I learned more about EQ from this 11 minute video than all the other non-informative videos on youtube that just gave me the run around. Thank you Sir.
Thank you for watching and your kind comments! If you’d like to dive deeper, please check out my course link in the description. And thanks again for watching!
This is one of the best explanatory videos regarding not just EQ, but a topic in general. The way you presented everything was so easy to follow, and the changes in each frequency range were well illustrated. Awesome vid.
This video needs more views, it's such a clear example of EQ! Absolutely love how you "built" the 5 range EQ from a single volume knob, brilliant teaching. Gonna share this with some friends.
The best most thorough pleasant sounding explanation of EQ period. The importance of sound quality in audio when teaching about audio from the start. I am not sure why so many videos teaching about audio don't sound right. Thank you for this. This tutorial is par excellence. Thank you for this and the fantastic audio analogies and graphics. Wonderfully and masterfully done. You made learning this a pleasure.
Thanks, DJ! If you’d like to dive deeper there’s a link to my course that this video is part of. It’s actually the very first lesson. You should find the link somewhere in the description. Thanks for watching and for your comments!

I've just listened to this for the second time. This particular video gives a great introduction to basic terminology used with EQ plus explains the five general EQ ranges. It really simplifies parts of acoustics that I never understood (even on my radio). And for someone who wants to use EQ on my audio it is a good introduction to lead to the next step of actually applying EQ.
Thank you and thanks for watching! If you're interested in learning. more, here's the full course: votechguru.thinkific.com/courses/audition-ready-audio-course

Awesome video! I never knew what the frequencies on The Venue’s soundboard meant! Now I can start to learn how to run the soundboard for future concerts!
You’re very welcome and thanks for watching! If you’d like to dive even deeper, there’s a link in the description to the full class that this video is a part of. Thanks again!
I would say this video is EQ all the way. Excellent Quality. ;-) Extremely helpful. It does make the subject less intimidating for people doing VO work.
These are the details that I'm looking for as a newbie and basic video editor. The muddy and Sses is making me crazy! Subbed to your channel. Thank you sir :)
This was quite informative. You really cleared out the air with what you displayed.. had a trouble with eq for my Shure mic and I was completely out of place. Gonna make a sample and post it hear.. great illustration once again..
Tim Tippets will demystify your audio editing. Learn from a top Audio & VO Pro in this well-designed & comprehensive course (especially if you're a Voice Over talent) This course is the most solid info out there: Highly recommended!
Yep, as I point out in the entire course that the video comes from, you just want to “kiss it” with all of the effects. Compression, downward expansion and so on. Emulating a better room with a small cut at 500 Hz is a good example. Too many folks are learning on RUclips (from people who mean well, but don’t actually know what they’re talking about) and crushing their audio. Since I cast as well as voice for the usual suspects, I can tell you that at least 80% of auditions go right into the trash due to over processing. Especially with limiting which is the worst advice in the world. The idea is to make everything sound better than it otherwise would. Having the proper setup gives my 1,000+ students a massive edge.
It’s the native EQ in Adobe Audition. If you’re interested in learning more, here you go. BTW, the course applies to any EQ or DAW, compressor, downward expander, etc. And thanks for watching! votechguru.thinkific.com/courses/audition-ready-audio-course
Thank you much!! Weird question but I only get sexy books (I'm an audiobook narrator) because my voice is super girly and sultry when I read, even when I try to not sound that way. I'm trying to do more serious books. I wanna make people think not just get off. You should do a video on female EQ and use my voice as an example 😉 make me sound at the front of the speaker (as in, more present)? And make me sound more grown-up and manlier if that makes sense... 😁💖
Thanks for watching! Funny you should mention that. I teach it all right here if interested. votechguru.thinkific.com/courses/audition-ready-audio-course
This tutorial is great I've been looking for something like this. I have a question, I know you did a tutorial on Vo panels, But do you have a method for making a portable vo booth, due to not having a closet or no real space?.
Score Moore Here’s one vocal-booth-to-go has a video on. I’ve arranged a 5% discount with them on their blankets and the coupon code is votechguru-5 Here’s the video: ruclips.net/video/IjZo0eVzKSE/видео.html
Love all these tutorials always sound fine before anything is even applied. The one i'm working on is so overpowering in mid lows I can't seem to fix it to sound good. Not sure why that's happening.
Your method is great to get a nice clean professional look, but I must mention one thing that should be different. You need a tighter woven fabric on the backside to stop those nasty tiny rockwool fibers from floating around your house forever and dicing up your lungs and eyes. Window screen has far too big of hole to keep the fibers out of your lungs and eyes.
Thanks for watching. I have no idea why this rumor persists. Maybe I’ll make a video on it someday. You can check the website MSDS sheets on their website and this video might help you gain a better understanding of the truth. I appreciate your comments on the fit and finished, though. Thanks. ruclips.net/video/LOWQym4RCfI/видео.html

My conclusion: Boosting = bad. Cutting = bad :)
No offense, but that’s no different than saying lifting or dropping your blacks or contrast etc while color grading log footage = bad.
