Should respect be earned or given and why? Bonus question: in your own opinion, whose responsibility is it to teach kids about respecting others: the kids themselves, parents, or teachers?
I'd rather give myself respect, because lately I've been mentally beating myself up because of my past and mistakes. So me respecting myself should come before anything else.

Another tip for getting respect that works for me: make sure people know that if they betray you, you’ll never talk to them again. But only if it’s something unforgivable. If it’s a little mistake, let them know that you don’t like it and forgive them. Just don’t give too many second chances or you’ll get taken advantage of.
Other points I can think of: - try to always treat others like you would want to be treated - reflect and think about people more than on the surface, show actual interest and genuinely give the benefit of the doubt - don't speak louder to make yourself heared. If possible show it with actions, or step away from the situation at first. Speak more silent and thoughtful instead of loud and emotionally. - admit to being imperfect and take responsability for mistakes - voice your opinion clearly: Don't say "you always...." but "I feel x when...". Do not exaggregate, use sarkasm or jokes or shift the blame to get your point across. There are subtle passive-aggressive strategies I've heared people use eg. "but if you have a better idea, then say it" / "but I'm just me" from people without bad intention. Just say "that's the best idea I have, please feel free to discuss, disagree or give your input", or simply "what do you think about that?".
These are really good points. In my opinion, I feel like you need to respect yourself because others do. Because it can give you a confidence boost and treat others like how you want them to to treat you.
I want to add the point, to stay humble. Like, in the last point at 05:15 the guy said'it was nothing.' Staying humble makes oneself more relatable and down to earth. If the guy responded with something like 'you owe me' the energy would have shifted to a more arrogant representation. with being humble the people see the actions oneself makes is easy for them and belongs to their personality. This way, people respect your being and the actions you have taken.
For real, this video actually included something which I relate to my character a lot, and that's number 6: "I got your back". I'm glad you mentioned it in the video! Thank you! :D
I got a couple things that got me respect in middle school and will still help me in the future, I think it could help some men so here are some things that made me respectable: 1. Know how to fight 2. Always be calm, no matter what (Even if someone is threatening to jump you) 3. Learn to communicate and have a deep voice 4. Be mistyrious (Im not joking) 5. Have friends. 6. Have a masculine body language 7. Dress good, no logos, no designs (preferably) 8. Fix your posture 9. Show you arent afraid of anything (I almost got jumped once and I showed I want afraid, they just gave up) 10. So sports, any one you like 11. be social 12. Hunter eyes 13. Be relaxed 14. Work on yourself, improve, workout, make money (if you can and know how) 15. Be yourself, no need to create a false identity just to be popular 16. Talk with girls, the more women talk to you, the more you seem attractive (This one can help you boost your confidence and make females more attracted to you) 17. Be confident. 18. The more handsome you are, the better 19. Be as peaceful as you can, avoid conflict Theres more and you can search if you want, but thats some things that made people respect me. Everything said in this video is valid ngl tho. Edit: Please ignore the spelling errors, english isnt my native language.
Call people out if you notice disrespect. Many people are getting into the trap of being too polite. You can be kind, polite and immediately call people out if they cross boundaries. Let’s try to make this a better world ❤
Step 1: I naturally do. Step 2: I take this to a dangerous level. Step 3: I do this constantly, I always monitor my physical language. Step 4: I never care if I'm wrong, I'm fine messing up, I can improve. Step 5: I prefer to be quiet but when I talk, I'm very clear, loud but a tad fast. Step 6: I always share my thoughts and always stand for what I believe in. I still don't feel respected.
Some people will never respect you. Sometimes you're so beaten down by society that you learn not to care what others think. It takes a while but you can learn this power.
So let's assume either one of these is true: 1) you messed up, and people don't tell you but treat you bad as a consequence. 2) They are for whatever reason shitty people who will not show respect. Maybe there's a third where you don't feel respected, but people don't intentionally meant to disrespect you. If that's possible I would try and ask someone who might give you a helpful, calm and reflected answer. Either someone who you feel doesn't respect you, or somebody who knows the situation and people well enough. So I would ask them if they think you've wronged someone, and if they think their behaviour is fair. Another option is to straight up go and say "I don't feel respected, can we talk about that please". Depending on the people, they might have trouble being confronted like that. But it can be the best way to solve this. Either way try to really understand their perspective, calmly ask questions about how they see things. Thank the person and let it sit for at least over night, reflect afterwards the next day with a calm mind. Hopefully you'll have some insight after that.
@@ann18o96What if it's in a work environment...? I left a job because of physical stuff concerning several employees and employer exposing himself in public place.
I've been demanding more respect from my peers. I hold people to their word, and if they disrespect me, it's hard for me to respect them from then on. It's difficult to feel encouraged when I do this, but am literally the only one who is going against this new norm everyone seems to be stuck in.
#4. My bad. I always try to admit my mistakes because my dad literally doesn't and keeps blaming everything but himself. But I sometimes fall into the same trap because I come from him. So I basically try not to be Dad, and instead try to be someone who's more deserving of respect. It's still a bit of a struggle with my communication skills...
Persistance is another thing i would say. If you always change ur persona and personality, it will lead other people around you confused on their image which they have of you (even though they dont wanna say it) - maybe ur personality is to be inconsistent and variable. then so be it. but always stay true to yourself and do what YOU want. Thats one from me :)
The Bad thing would be, that some people can not relate to people beeing inconsistent. They just are who they are and they feel fine that way. But a few of us tend to be very volatile when it comes to personality. I mean i dont know either, since im a very uncommon, adaptable and understanding person for others but... i guess unempathic people see it like that? yeah :)@@ellakramar1931
You should respect everyone until they give you a reason not to. Everybody wants to and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, hurt people hurt people so if those kids were bullying that kid in the beginning you grow up to understand that they were most likely getting it even worse else where and since they cant take it out on their abuser they take it out on somebody less smaller than them and so they cycle continues. Evil people arent born. They are made.

"My bad" is totally deja vu while arguing with someone. Statistically you can't be wrong in all cases of arguing with someone, but saying "My bad" even you're 100% right it will create an image in their heads that they are ALWAYS right. And you're definitely not paid for boosting their ego

Flex every muscle in your body while simultaneously telling someone you're forklift certified.
