How do you quit smoking? The Match Game gang can tell you!
Joey Bishop, Brett Somers, Charles Nelson Reilly, Janice Lynde, Richard Dawson, and Patti Deutsch
I'm glad that Joey Bishop finally realized that the audience's booing or cheering is based on whether they like his answers, not on whether they like him. And he seems a little less surly this week than he did during his first week on Match Game. He also seems to be better about showing his card at the same time that he says his answer, rather than saying his answer first and then showing the card later.
He did MUCH better this week, and once in a while you see a genuine smile break through angry comic persona. (Which people DON'T seem to understand any more. )
The rarest of all episodes, Patti matching SEVERAL times
I was just thinking the same thing!
H/H match update:
...
Today's action:
Well, not much action, at least not in the H/H department. The game went to a tie-breaker and they couldn't even finish that in the time allotted, so no Super Match today! Note, it was a 6 to 6 tie after the second round of the regular game, so that means that every celeb matched both contestants! People joke about Patti's wacky and weird answers, but she matched them both! More surprisingly to me, Joey did too!
*For fun, let's look back at the leader board from way back in episode 116!!!*
Here are all the celebs (only 5) to have scored 3 or more matches so far, with their % accuracy so far:
Charles - 62.5% (5 wins in 8 attempts).
Betty - 42.9% (6 wins in 14 attempts).
Bert - 33.3% (4 wins in 12 attempts).
Brett - 28.6% (4 wins in 14 attempts).
Richard - 24% (6 wins in 25 attempts).
*And this was the leader board for episode 501!*
Orson Bean - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts).
Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts).
TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
Fannie - 50% (9 wins in 18 attempts).
Betty - 48.4% (15 wins in 31 attempts).
Charles - 45.9% (17 wins in 37 attempts).
Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts).
Richard - 37.2% (99 wins in 266 attempts).
Brett - 36.6% (15 wins in 41 attempts).
Bert - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts).
*Finally, here's the current leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy:*
(Note, for tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.)
Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts).
Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts).
TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
TIE: Betty - 50% (17 wins in 34 attempts).
TIE: Fannie - 50% (10 wins in 20 attempts).
Charles - 47.7% (21 wins in 44 attempts).
Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts).
Brett - 41.4% (24 wins in 58 attempts).
Richard - 40.5% (164 wins in 405 attempts).
Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts).
*These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 697, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
Thanks for posting!!❤❤❤
When the pilot walked down the aisle of the airplane he made all the passengers nervous because he was wearing a dress
Love Janice Lynde's laugh and facial expressions...
😁
Patti matched again.. ;0)
On this date in 1991, Evening Shade Tv Series episode Rear Window with Charles Nelson Reilly as the director of the episode aired.
15:58 Patti smokes! You can see the smoke wafting above her nameplate.
That's probably Richard's smoke
I think it was indeed her smokes, not Richard's. You can see the way it wafts up that it's coming from her desk.
Oh my god, deport her in chains !!!
Janice Lynn uh good to see you too LMAO
wasn't tar one of the ingredients in cigarettes?
Not an ingredient, but a by-product of burning tobacco.
ROFL! Another good episode! Love ya Patti!
They didn't like Sonny Bono.
Fight! Fight! Fight! Get in there Gene. ;0)
Sandy Carlyle was sure pretty.
What should the title of this episode be?
@Rustyfishplate Love it!!!
Dip it in Blank
Raise your hand if you've never made love in a car! I agree with Janice; far from being "bizarre," it's practically a national pastime, at least in high school and college. As for "bar," having worked in one for many years, you might be surprised by how often that occurs, or is at least attempted.
Here’s a “Match Game” way to quit smoking: Before you put a cigarette in your mouth, dip it in Monty Hall’s ear. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Where is Brett's head when the question is read??
HOW IS IT ....PEOPLE CANT SEE THE REALITY OF WHAT SHE DOES... SHE BRIDGES THE TIME FOR STARS TO THINK AND WRITE THEIR ANSWERS
@@billwheeler7243 then why doesn't she ever stop, even when they're done and she just keeps interrupting, Gene can barely even read the questions without shushing her
@@billwheeler7243 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
It's so funny, because every time Brett doesn't ask for a question to be repeated, someone else always does. For example, Joey asks to hear the very first question again. Basically, Gene pretty much had to repeat the question (partly for the home audience too) at least once just to kill some time while the celebs were coming up with an answer. Otherwise it just would have been dead air (or that deadly music) for 20 or 30 seconds, and that would have been boring. So, basically, Brett was just doing her job, and she did it well, judging by the show's ratings and longevity. Also, Brett ended up appearing in more episodes of "Match Game '7x" than anyone else, except for Gene, and she wouldn't have lasted if she weren't popular with the home audience at the time (housewives actually wrote a lot of letters to TV stations and networks back in the day).
7:56 Brett actually has the nerve to say" I've hit him, I've done everything, and he still won't shut up". The MOST annoying, obnoxious, Big mouth on this show actually said that. Now she should know how the others felt about her.

Are Charles and Joey arguing at the beginning?
I don't get why they promote plays. It's not like everyone can head to New York, or Boston, or wherever. Unless it's going on tour, there's a really limited market, I would think.
Hopefully it helped Charles.
Common courtesy. People going to Broadway plays probably aren't watching daytime TV.
8:20 That was awkward.
Dip the cigarette in WATER (probably won't match, but if it is wet you can't smoke it, right? - Oh, wait, this is MG - TINKLE -- Hey, three matches.)
Sonny had his FINGER caught in Cher's navel (Bad, I know, but I couldn't think of anything else that would fit in a navel - a toe? -- one match)
The pilot was wearing a PARACHUTE (perfect 6 matches)
Made love to his wife in his CAR (not very original, but at least it rhymes -- four out of four matches)
Last time with a POLE VAULTING event ( four matches)
They waste a lot of time on this show.
That's not wasting time. That's entertaining!
Has anyone seen the episode that Betty is talking about at the end of the video at 2:50?
