  • Turbulent flight, hail shower, Force 9 @ 230 degrees. Great flight as usual. Well done Aurigny. After 40 years the Aurigny Jersey/Guernsey route is being gifted away to Blueislands. Blueislands are notorious for delays and cancellations.

Used to really enjoy the flight between Jersey & Guernsey in the 90's. Was like jumping in a taxi that flew! Thank you for this as it brought back memories of a time of my life that only seemed like yesterday.

As a breton neighbour I've always enjoyed these wonderful flights from Dinard to Guernsey or from st -brieuc to Jersey !

I had the pleasure of flying several times as a passenger in both the Trislander and Islander when I lived and worked in the then New Hebrides in the mid 1970s in the South West Pacific. There were only two asphalt runways in the group of Islands, one at Bauerfield on the main island of Efate and one on the island of Espiritu Santo in the north. All the rest on other islands were grass or compacted coral or compacted earth. One strip ran right along the edge of the Pacific Ocean just a few metres from the sea and only about 2 metres above sea level. Other strips were cut out of the bush. The aircraft were not equipped with digital instruments, just analogue. The only navigational aids were DME and VOR at Bauerfield , the international airport. Flights to outer islands were all VFR. It was an adventure every time I flew.

Yes, I landed on the grass runway in Alderney a few times in the Tris bumpy and right up to the cliff edge.
Must have been great times out there.
Dorniers St the moment but due to be replaced with ATRs when the runway is extended or not

I did that flight back in 2003, the pilot was great, he turned round and chatted to us all. There was quite a crosswind when we landed and he explained what he was doing. I really enjoyed it.

I went to Duxford yesterday and I saw that Aurigny have donated one of their Trislanders to the museum.

Yes, the Tris's were depreciated many many times over so no loss to Aurigny. Pity one couldn't be maintained in a flyable condition like the Vulcan. I understand the more expensive components were removed, like the GPS.

Flew on one of these from Guernsey to Alderny then, obviously ,back again.Talk about seat of the pants flying. The turn he made coming back into Guernsey made me wonder if he'd been in the Luftwaffe during WW2.Good fun

Its now 2016 and you couldn't have been more right about the Blue Islands comments. The Guernsey-Jersey service is now an utter disgrace! And with totally the wrong type of aircraft! At least Aurigny knew what they were doing.

"Acoustic Lift Technology" The joke in the aviation industry was Islanders and Trislanders generate lift by pulverising the air molecules with intense noise... :) I've actually flown a Trislander - interesting machine with really heavy aileron controls! Trislander Pilots will end up looking like Popeye...

***** Put on enormous amonuts of power and vibrate into the air.I use to build them, and fly in them.
