No, Japanese can be used without pronouns like "he" or "she" so Roberu doesn't actually refer to Kaoru with pronouns in the original Japanese other than to say "damn, this guest totally looks like a girl." English unfortunately doesn't really have that luxury, so the TLer just put in whatever pronouns they wanted.

i think the nice thing about kaoru, despite being misgendered, is that they are more readily self identified. THere's no question, at least if you listen, about them being trans, or atleast less than kira. Their voice, for example. There is a possibility that the person behind kira's voice was actually born female, BUT NOT SO WITH KAORU. Kira also has a sort of knowing-not-telling-ness, for example in their ringfit livestream, where they chose not to identify their gender.
