  • Swages are concave tools used to form the outside of the work. The most common swage is half round, although they can also be found in other shapes such as a V swage. Swages are a class of blacksmithing tools referred to as top tools.

    The top swage handles prove you do not use them very much, they have no patina, they look new.

    good video. I found a swage hammer head on our farm. I was trying to find out what it was. It's stamped Y P with an anchor between the letters. I have not found a bottom part yet.

    With the excess vibration from using a striker, is that the reason some smiths essentially "wrap" a metal handle around their top tools?

    • @BlackBearForge
      @BlackBearForge  5 лет назад +1

      I think that is part of it, plus the metal handles are seen as a permanent solution.

    Is there a special reason for the painted (red/white) swage? Always informative. "Tool of the Day" is like taking a daily iron tablet with you vitamins (pun intended). It's good for you.
