- In this narrowboat vlog, I reveal some of the work that needs to be done to our narrowboat. We take a gorgeous cruise on the Coventry Canal and discover a wonderful story about a villager who once lived in Whittington. Sit back, relax and enjoy the vlog! Take care.

What a lovely thing to say, Catherine!😊 That means such a lot to me, thank you. Take care🌻🦋
Delight as ever, you are truly gifted. Guy
Hi Guy, I hope you and Jill are ok? Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
Such beauty in your videos Vanessa. We love all the wildlife you feature, the views and flowers along the way
I’m so pleased that you are enjoying them. Have a super rest of the week. Take care 🦋🌻
I do not always like poetry but the poem in this video is really good , really thought provoking , thank you . God bless you both.
Stephen.
I am so pleased that you enjoyed this poem; I think the subject of nurses pulls at all of our heart strings. I wrote this during the Pandemic when we were all reminded of the pure heroism of our key workers. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super week, take care🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat thanks Vanessa, I agree about nurses. Please keep writing poetry, I may get to like it more by reading yours !.
Did you get your window fixed yet? .
God bless from Stephen
Thanks so much for the time and care that you take to bring us such vivid images of the wildlife and wildflowers! Not only does it involve keeping an eye peeled on your walks and getting down, dirty, and up close with a camera ( 9:15 ) but the time and energy at the laptop to weave a captivating video story! Lastly (I'll stand down after this, promise) my vote for new artwork would be a Vanessa-drawn portrait of Zephyr!
Brewster, thank you so much for such a kind comment. It is an absolute privilege to put a video together for viewers like yourself and I am so grateful to have such lovely subscribers. Your idea for a Zephyr portrait is such a good one but I’m not sure my art skills are up to something that big. Thank you once again! 😊Take care🌻🦋
I out of words cant get enough of zepher thanks for highlighting the wild life looking forward for next friday take care
Thank you!😊 Zephyr is delighted that you appreciate her content🐾🐾 She’ll be asking for a pay rise at this rate!😂 Take care🌻🦋
Another beautiful, peaceful vlog, I love them. Thought some of your lovely nature drawings would be more suitable than the monkey. Thanks again for showing us all the scenes, knowledge and nature on your journeys. Trish (Vince`s Mum)
Thank you so much Trish, for such a lovely comment and suggestion.😊 I am so pleased that you are enjoying the vlogs. Have a super rest of the week and weekend!🌻🦋
Sorry I haven’t watched for so long, but it turns out your still beautiful and calming as ever
Hello NB Blue Phoenix! I hope you are all well. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🦋🌻
Hooray for all nurses (esp throughout Covid) 🙌 great poem 🇨🇦❤️
Hip Hip hooray for our amazing nurses!🙌 Thank you so much, Yvonne. Take care🦋🌻
Thank you for another lovely video Vanessa great weather too, you really hit the spot for helping us to relax again. We really do need nature don't we.
Christine, nature is such a powerful mood lifter, especially if you walk really slowly through it and pay attention to the details. Thank you so much for your lovely comment! Take care🌻🦋
What a cheerful and happy vlog as always. Love the birdsong.
Thank you so much, Vanessa! The birdsong is magical at the moment. Take care🦋🌻🎶🎶🎶
Replace the monkey with Zephyr or a kingfisher. Lovely vlog.
That is a great idea! I’m so pleased you liked the vlog, nurse Diane! Take care🌻🦋
You were asking what should replace the monkey?, I like to watch you but don't say to much, so how about a nice picture of a garden or a pot full of flowers you really like! Hope this helps! Thanks for your Vlog, we like it and wish we could do the boat life you live. I am in Midland Ontario, Canada, so I hope to watch more! Thanks again! :-)
Thank you so much, Michael for your suggestions and for watching the vlogs. I think flowers are a lovely idea. Have a wonderful weekend and week ahead. Take care🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat Thanks for the nice comment, I will try to keep up and say Hello now and then.
Wow you are truly amazing.
That is such a kind thing to say! Thank you so much..😊Take care🌻🦋
Just another marvellous vlog
Maybe a lotus flower or a swan instead of the monkey transfer?
Peter, thank you for your kindness and for your great suggestions. A lotus flower or a swan would look so much prettier than our current transfer! Have a wonderful weekend and week ahead. Take care🦋🌻
Very relaxing Vlog with all the nature and bird song! It looks like you have a few boat projects. I look forward to seeing how they come out. Mark in Colorado.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Mark. I have to start tending to my boat’s paint, wood and window work soon. I think the next couple of weeks are going to be Project Alice Grace, all I need is dry weather and to stop putting it off!😂 Take care🦋🌻
Thankyou for sharing that interesting vlog. How lovely to remember the midwife by naming a street after her. Love your poetry,
When I discovered the story of Nurse Darby it warmed my heart, especially when the villagers were all sharing their memories of her. Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Sheila. Take care🌻🦋
What a gorgeous place! I’d love to live next to the water ❤️ How about a heron for the boat - seems apt! I saw my first comma butterfly the other day and was so excited that I painted it - they have such an unusual shape don’t they? As always, lovely words and photography 🌈
A heron is a great idea and much better than the current transfer. I agree with you about the beautiful comma butterfly. I'll check out your Etsy shop to find your painting. I find butterflies so tricky to draw accurately. It's lovely to hear from you. Take care🦋🌻
Vanessa, I've often wondered about that monkey. I understand why you may wish to change it. Although you've solicited suggestions for replacement ideas, I'll pass. For me, it would be like Fred Flintstone floating ideas to Claude Monet. I trust that whatever you do will be the best thing. I can only offer food for thought about your privacy. Ostentatious displays may attract unwanted attention.
Thank you for sharing Doris May Darby with us all. That was a wonderful tribute poem. Additionally, who here will ever forget Zephyr's Great Darby Avenue Scratch?🤣 Have a wonderful week.
Hi John, you are right about keeping the boat artwork low-key. A picture of Zephyr is proving to be a popular choice. 🐾🐾
I’m glad you liked the story of nurse Darby. It really warmed my heart when I talked to the locals about her. Typical Zephyr, having the world’s longest scratch at such a poignant moment!😂.
Take care🦋🌻
Lovely vlog as usual. I think I went through Hopwas. Can't remember I'm always moving. Alice grace is a well loved boat. it's pointless having mint paintwork it just doesn't last. As you know. Have a lovely weekend Mrs Mindful.
Hi Will! I agree with you that being too precious about the paintwork when you continuously cruise is not worth it but it would be nice to have her looking a bit less battered. My window is the biggest issue at the moment though so I’ve put that as job number 1. There’s always something that needs doing on a boat though!😃 Thank you for your comment. Happy cruising Mr Narrowboat Will!🦋🌻
Love watching you and Zephyr ❤ Dogs make the best people, don't they?! Haha 😁 Wish I could post a picture of my much loved doggie, Marley!
Hi Heather, I agree with you about dogs! You can email me a picture of Marley if you want : themindfulnarrowboat@gmail.com Thank you for your comment. Take care🌻🦋
Thanks for a beautiful video with your wonderful poems and wildlife art. What about a picture of Zephyr instead of the monkey. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Hi Stevie, a picture of Zephyr is a lovely idea! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and for your kind words. Take care🌻🦋🐾🐾
I love watching the bird life in your vlogs and your puppy Zephyr, he's a cool dude 'ey. Thank you Vanessa for a lovely vlog. Cheers
Zephyr loves the title of ‘cool dude’ Greg! 🐾🐾Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care 🦋🌻
"Bobby" love the trivia!
Thank you for your lovely comment. Happy New Year! 🥳🦋🌻
Beautiful, magical vlog, adore your poems and illustrations, thank you for sharing x
Thank you so much, Simon for such a lovely comment.😊 That’s so kind of you. Take care🦋🌻
Just beautiful Vanessa, the local midwife and district nurse were much loved in the village when I was growing up. Thank you and take care.
It must be so special to have a nurse like that in your village who knows your family, has delivered the children who live there and is someone to turn to in need. When the villagers spoke about Nurse Darby and shared their stories, it was quite magical to stand and listen to them. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care, Christine 🌻🦋
Excellent thankyou Vanessa 🙏
You are so welcome 🤗🦋🌻
Lovely video, thanks for posting. Kind regards Mike. Norfolk.
You are so welcome, Mike from beautiful Norfolk, home to the swallowtails! Take care🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat thank you, I live in South Norfolk, and I've got swallowsin my garden most years. Stay safe, regards Mike. 🙏
What a sweet vlog
Thank you, Nanci!😊 Enjoy the rest of your week, take care🦋🌻
Beautiful vlog Vanessa. There was some lovely canal scenery and spring blooms, delightful birdsong to accompany it all too. Thanks so much, have a good week
The canals this time of year are beautiful to film. Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Paul. Have a good week too.
Thank you so much for a very relaxing vlog; it was just what I needed this morning after spending some time catching up on the news. One of my lecturers had a knack of spotting wild life when we were on field trips, to the extent we joked he was putting them in place before we went out. The number of things in nature you filmed reminded me of this guy.
Well, I’m honoured that I reminded you of your lecturer. What were you studying? The news is so distressing at the moment and I have had to limit myself when listening and reading it. Look after yourself, Orchid House. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat I was at a CofE teachers training college studying biology in the 60s. I could recognise many plants from a cross section of a stem or leaf under the microscope more easily than in the wild. Last year there were far fewer butterflies than the previous year. Have you noticed any difference?
Your studies sound so exciting. So far this year, I have only seen 1 brimstone and then the butterflies that I filmed this week. Normally, I would expect to see more brimstones in early spring but I will keep looking. I know that the small tortoiseshell is in decline though. Let’s hope they make a comeback like the Comma!🦋🦋🦋🦋
Hello Vanessa - greetings from Poland.
The blackbird, and his songs, was beautiful. That and the lovel daffodils on your forecastle, showed that spring is in the air.
1400 miles since you bought Alice Grace. That's a long way. Time for a refit, tidy up or repaint? As for what to replace the monkey with, I'm too late I guess. If it were to be my choice, I'd use Alice as my theme and have the March Hare.
"The March Hare will be much the most interesting, and perhaps as this is May it won't be raving mad - at least not so mad as it was in March" - so Alice said.
Another wonderful video. Thank you so much
The March hare is such a wonderful idea and I wish I had thought about that before, but I have started my new design already; so clever to think about Alice in Wonderland and my boat! I'm going to have to read that book again now. Have a great Friday!🌻🦋
So wonderful to see enjoy your vlog a second time.
That is so lovely to hear, Nanci! You are a star.🤩 Have a wonderful week 🦋🌻
So happy I found your vlog. We've added you to our list of narrow boat bloggers to watch regularly. Watching you journal the nature you see is lighting a spark and making me want to take out my art supplies and give it a go. Are you self taught or did you go to art school? Either way you have an artists eye. Well done. Carol in New Jersey USA
Welcome to the channel, Carol! It’s lovely to have you aboard. I think that it’s a super idea that you get out those art supplies of yours and I’d love to hear how it’s going once you do. Thank you so much for your kind words about my sketches; when I moved onto my boat, I promised myself that I would learn some new skills such as drawing, crochet, baking etc… I read John Muir Laws on how to sketch wildlife and it was such a great help. I am absolutely useless with a paintbrush, but I am improving with pencil and ink, slowly!😂 What I can tell you, is sitting down and studying the small details of an animal, plant, or fungi, is an incredible way to switch off. Happy creating! 🦋🌻🎨🖌
lovely places, adorable youtuber and marvellous dog. Now my favorite youtube channel. Thank you.
Thank you so much, Giampaolo for such a lovely comment and Zephyr and I are honoured to be your favourite!🤩🐾🐾 Take care🦋🌻
good evening Vanessa, your vlogs are always exciting and relaxing, have a good week
Thank you so much, Jean-Louis!😊 I’m so pleased that you find the vlogs relaxing and exciting. Have a good week too, take care🦋🌻
Beautiful video. Loved the history of the nurse midwife. Thank you.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, Christine. Take care🌻🦋
Hi Vanessa brilliant vlog again. Have had covid for two weeks so the vlogs off narrow boats I follow have been a life safer. Your is so good the diary is brilliant along with the drawings so entertaining. X
Oh no, Sandy! Two weeks of Covid sounds horrible. I hope you’re on the mend and feeling better now. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
Vanessa, I give up. At Whittington in your latest video, at 7:23 you pull up with the towpath on your right. But if you are headed towards Fradley the towpath should be on your left! Did you turn around? Fascinating fact: the Coventry Canal towpath is always on the same side.
Hi Andrew, well spotted( unfortunately no prizes for this though). I went to King’s Orchard Marina to get water and pumpout the toilet, then turned back to Whittington. I like to keep the vlogs under 15 minutes and split the video half on journey and the rest on a story related to the mooring place with the nature that I’ve spotted. Hope this explains it. Well done though! Take care🌻🦋
As for replacing 'the Monkey' ~ I can see a pot or small garden of your favorite flowers growing. With beautiful, colorful flowers you would have Springtime all year round.🥀🌻🪴🌼🌷🌱🌺🐞
That sounds so much prettier than the monkey transfer. I love the ‘Little Robin Cottage’ title on your handle. Adorable 🥰 Thank you for your comment. Take care 🌻🦋
The shots of the blackbird in full voice as amazing. You will have to feature a bird of the week ,like Robbie Cumming features pub of the week (but oddly not in his TV episodes!).You got the right weather this time.In contrast it has just started snowing here again! Perhaps a collage of the nature paintings/drawings in your journal to replace the monkey. Possibly a little tricky to paint but try it on paper first.
Hi Chris, thank you so much for your lovely comment. I think your idea of Bird of the Week is inspired and I sang it to Robbie’s musical hook which made me chuckle! Not sure Robbie would be very pleased though!😂 Thank you for the suggestion of artwork for the boat. I’m definitely not skilled enough to take on a portrait but I will try sketching ideas on paper though. Have a great weekend and week ahead. Take care🦋🌻
Once again a very enjoyable vlog, thank you. Apart from zephyr and nature we find the old buildings and history fascinating. Things are so different to our island which is 50% parks and reserves. If you have time to watch you may be interested in a RUclips channel which a local adventurer puts up, let me know. Kind regards Bet and Ken.
Hi Ken and Bet, I would love to know the name of the RUclips channel that you mentioned. Would you please be able to send me the name; I would really appreciate it? Thank you for your lovely comment. Look after yourselves. 🌻🦋
Hi Vanessa. The adventurer is a retired school teacher Jeff Jennings who taught at the local school here in Scottsdale my home town. He kayaks, bush-walks and performs historical research mainly in the old mining areas of the state. Some of his work may not be of interest to you but in particular you might enjoy his recent sea eagle videos, Fun in the sun at Bridport and Tasmania winter trip 2013. Hope you enjoy
Hi Ken, I have watched some of Jeff’s videos and they are really interesting. The photography is amazing, particularly the sea eagles and flying albatross! Thank you so much for the link!😊
@@themindfulnarrowboat I’m so glad you found the channel interesting. As I said there are some things that won’t be of interest but there’s are some great videos as well. Take Care
Hi Vanessa a great vlog again. Loved all off it. Sooo relaxing the diary is lovely and the pictures are brilliant. Have great week. 👍
I’m so glad that you enjoyed it! Thank you so much. Have a great week too!🌻🦋👍
Love your channel, sitting having lunch on Saturday after working in the morning and now just unwinding with your vlog. Thanks =-)
That is so lovely to hear Lorraine! I’m so glad you chose my vlog to unwind after work. Thank you so much! Take care 🌻🦋
The wildflowers and wildlife are amazing to see . Lovely vlog as always Vanessa. Love from Helen & Tony. Have a fabulous week xx
Thank you so much, Tony and Helen! It’s the wildlife for me! 😃Take care🦋🌻
Another brilliant video ❤. Many thanks from Chris and Jane 🎉
Thank you so much, Chris and Jane! Have a lovely boaty day in the sunshine!🌞🌻🦋
A suggestion...replace the monkey with a butterfly or two on your favorite flower or two. Enjoyed the video! Cheers...
Butterflies and flowers would be so much prettier on the side of our boat! Thank you so much for your suggestions. Take care🌻🦋
You should paint an open journal of course as a replacement 📖 ..or pick an entry you’re particularly attached to or proud of and recreate that image xo
That is such a lovely idea, Zoe! I’d have to do several practices I think to get that right. Thank you so much for your suggestion. Take care🦋🌻
Just found your channel. You are a treasure. Much love and respect from Denver Colorado.
Welcome to the channel, Francis! Thank you for such a lovely comment too.😊 Take care🦋🌻
What a great vlog Vanessa😀 it made me feel as if l was on the boat with u . Such a beautiful cruise showing the lovely scenery has u gently floated past it, with early spring flowers blossoming and the tweets of the birds. Nice story of the midwife who delivered so many babies and still remembered by so many, fancy going to school by a canal so close to nature not like schools of today.
I personally think the monkey should be replaced with one of ur diary pictures of a bird maybe a heron or swan, but l think it will make Alice Grace unique 🎨.
Have a wonderful weekend and coming week 👍🦆🦢💜🙂
Hi Simon, I thought how lovely it must be to go to school by the canal too! The birdsong on that stretch was amazing, so what a special place that must be to learn in. I’m so glad that you enjoyed the story about Nurse Darby; I love reading about real people like that. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🦋🌻🐾🐾
Top vlog as always and great to see you passing on such a sunny day. Rob and Lucy nb Jasmine
Hello Rob and Lucy! Yea it certainly was a gorgeous cruising day. Let’s hope we have plenty more🌞 Thank you for your comment. Take care🌻🦋
superb vlog! and the drawings at the end were incredible
Thank you so much, Indi! 😊That is such a kind thing to say. Take care🦋🌻
I think you should replace the monkey with one of your own favourite piece of artwork. Safe travels.
Thank you so much for your suggestion and for taking time to comment. 😊Take care🦋🌻
I'm chilling out watching your eagerly awaited vlog, having to self isolate after testing positive. Still, it gives me more time to watch your other vlogs. Wish I had at least some of the knowledge you have about about the wildlife and flowers etc. Ahhhh. Best wishes and keep them coming. ps. as for the monkey, how about a composite picture of some of the birds, plants etc you come across.
Oh no, Russell, I hope you are not too poorly with Covid! Thank you so much for your idea about the picture on the boat and for your kindness about the vlog. Look after yourself, keep hydrated and top up on the vitamin C. Take care🦋🌻
Or a 4 leaf clover where you can make a wish when you are a little down
These are lovely ideas! Thank you so much, Chris👍🌻🦋
i love your vlogs so much watching make me feel so relax looking forward to next one peace blessings davey fellow boater
I am so pleased to hear that you find the vlogs relaxing, davey 😊 It means a lot to get feedback like that. Take care🦋🌻
💜Why not transfer one of your beautiful drawings of birds or favourite flower instead of the monkey. Take care🌸

Maybe a buttercup to partner your lovely daisy?
I won’t spoil what I decided to choose by telling you. I’ll let you find it in the vlog. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care🦋🌻
I think zephyr should replace the monkey😎😎😎
That would definitely be an improvement. Thank you for your suggestion. Take care🦋🌻
How about a cartoon picture of Alice in Wonderland the Disney version with flowers and stuff Just a thought :(
That is such a lovely idea, Steve but I have now painted something. Thank you so much for your suggestion though; it would have been perfect. I hope that you are enjoying your week. Take care🌻🦋
Poor Alice Grace.
How about a flower painting.
I like the idea of a flower very much. Thank you for making a suggestion, Vanessa 🦋🌻
Another daisy or something like your doggie
Needs our protection- from ourselves.!!
Absolutely! Thank you for watching. Take care🦋🌻
Put Location in Title
Buttercup to go with daisy
That is a lovely idea, but I have selected what the other side is going to be now and as soon as the weather improves, I'll start the artwork. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a wonderful rest of the week, take care🦋🌻
Somebody keeps popping up in some videos, who is this I ask myself?
It is certainly a mystery, Mike! 😃🕵️♂️ Thank you so much for watching. Take care🦋🌻
One word Vanessa "MAGICAL" 👍
