I always wondered why metal benders don’t use the metal surrounding their opponents against themselves. I mean, Kuvira for example is full of metal around her clothes...
Over and over in both series it has been shown and stated multiple time, that Benders are aware of elements around them and continually manipulate them, there is a greater chance that obviously they can counter them bending their suits for metal bender or blood for blood benders
I heard somewhere that it was tophs ancestors who trained avatar kuruk in earth bending,so she natural had a strong bending line in her blood but she really took it to another level.....did aang every metal bending cause if not I’d find it funny if she was like nope only I’m that good
But let's be honest Toph is OP. She is like the best Earth bender and she's b l i n d. Plus, the fact that she learned metal bending just cuz she didn't want to be in a box..O.O. It's true-

My guess it works like when Amon used his Bloodbending to be immune to Councilman Tarlaqq’s Bloodbending.
I think it has to do with that maybe the other bender still has a hold onto it so they would have to fight over bending it which would just waste time
