It was really nice to meet you on this trip. Glad you got the views as it had lagged in by the time me and the dog got to the top. Nice to see what I missed! 😂
Nice to meet you too! It was a great day!
I got to admit the lone mountain surrounded by higher mountains are usually the best ones! And moody cloud like that is better than any blue sky day.
he who dares... nice one!
Nice video :) Glad you made it before the fog! I definitely agree with your visibility rule. We hiked to the top of Beinn Damh in Torridin which the kids now call, "Been Damp," in a total cloud. It cleared a little on the way down...still don't know what the views from the summit looked like ;) Although, I imagine they were gorgeous!
Thank you - it can add some atmosphere, but too much and it is just a waste of time.. Cheers, James
First walked this mountain in May 1972 in perfect weather. You access it via what in my opinion is the most beautiful glan in Scotland Glen Luibeg, and the Luibeg burn, which in summery weather is a great place to picnic just upstream from the bridge. Back then as we made our way up river the burn was crowded with a huge herd of red deer which ran off when we arrived! Must have been several hundred of them! We had pitched our tent all alone on the West side of Derry Lodge, waking up on a pink morning was like waking in paradise, utterly quiet and serene, I will never forget it! Wonderful video really enjoyed it.
Fantastic, totally agree it is one of the most stunning glens in Scotland.. thanks for sharing. Cheers, James
Despite all my younger days trekking in the Cairngorms, I never got to the top of Carn a' Mhaim and its airy connecting ridge. The draw of Ben Macdhui was always too strong, (or the weather was just so dire!!)
I'm so really happy to enjoy your video ascent and the atmospheric glimpses of the Cairngorm 'giants' from the summit.
😊
The weather gods shined on you today, thanks.😊
Always a good day when the weather is better than forecast!
Definitely 😁🏔
Great day - very atmospheric. You are right about the ridge towards Ben Macdui, the Cairngorm's only ridge. A skied it and Macdui on the day the UK had its coldest ever recorded temperature. I have also biked out from Derry Lodge - what a super run, it seems all down but the other way feels fairly flat.
What a difference to Ben Chonzie - smells like spring. Thank you very much, James, beautiful views!
I was hoping spring was close but apparently not - wait until you see my next video 🤣 Cheers, James
Great video mate 👌🏻 well done. Sometimes worth taking the risk with the weather 😂
Nice one James. Did this one a few years ago in July and it tipped it down, although we did get a view at the top all being it very brief.
Great video as usual James. Just shows when the weather forecast looks poor it's not always the case on the hills. Great you got the views 👍🏔
The sun always shines…. Great vid as always
Thank you for onother Munro Journey-worth the risk with the weather. Cheers.
This was my 282 in Aug 19, had done my first munro from the Corrour bothy in Aug 78. Happy memories and great to see them again. The use of mountain bikes in the hills on good tracks is a real bonus. Last year got a flat tyre in the LOD car park after a long hill day thank goodness.
I did the circuit of Derry cairngorm , Macdui and Carn a Mhaim the last time i was up there, you feel like you can stretch across and touch the Devils peak , good vid as usual , cheers from Brechin
What a fantastic view point, great video ❤❤
Great trip out for your. Best wishes out there.
Not a lot of snow on the hills for the time of year! Glad you had views. Thanks for sharing.
I was up Carn Dearg (Corrour) at the weekend, and spend nearly the whole day at least knee deep, sometimes up to my waist ☹
The gamble certainly paid off! 👍. Your photo albums must have some epic pictures in them! 👍
It certainly did 😁 oh it does, I am running out of space to hold all my photos/videos now 🤣 Cheers, James
Great views James, sometimes a little cloud just makes it all the more dramatic.
Absolutely stunning video. I love that beluga lagoon music. I used it for one of my videos a couple of weeks ago. Looking forward to your next one.
Take care
Alan
Thanks Alan, cant beat a bit of Beluga Lagoon 😁 Cheers, James
I got a cracking view on day I done this 1, almost turned back twice as weather on way up was horrendous but by time I got to summit it cleared up and was eerily silent. Great you scored with the cloud lifting.
Well done , another very enjoyable video, much respect hope you make 282 this summer
Thank you, I am on track to finish in August if all goes well 😁 Cheers, James
A very easy Munro.. Naa the hill isn't an eight, but the views are 😂
Surprised you've still got 5 in Cairngorms to do since they are right on your door step 😉
Glad to see you walked along the ridge a bit 👍that's where all the views are , yeah I did it all the way up the Ben MacDui, up the boulder field then onto Beinn Mheadhoin, doubled back to Derry Cairngorm, then down to Derry Lodge for the bike then back to the car..
Did most of the Cairngorms like this, nearly did them all in one summer , two still to do .
Hi James. Absolutely stunning, wow you certainly did get lucky with the weather. I see you found your bike, thank goodness! 🤣
All the best, Dave 😃🥾⛰🏴
Great weather in the end James. Worth the gamble.
Not like me to take the chance, but was well worth it 😁
@@ScottishMunroJourneyAch, sometimes a wee gamble pays dividends.
Cracking video I just come back from the far north of Scotland weather forecast was poor but I went cos I couldn’t change my leave in work and I ended up with fantastic views especially from Ben loyal when forecast was poor visibility so you can get lucky
what is that thing sticking out of you backpack over your left shoulder?
Ice axe - wasnt actually required this time but you never know what you might come across.
