That's how I spent my Summer vacations as a grade schooler, watching game shows. My favorite was (and still is) Family Feud, Steve Harvey is thebest I wish Ray Combs episodes still aired.
Of course, some of the game shows in this video were, at one time, actually hosted by hosts that did other game shows also seen in the video. For instance, Scrabble was hosted by Chuck Woolery, who was also the original host of Wheel of Fortune when it debuted. Jim Perry, who hosted Sale of the Century, was also the original (and I think the best) host of Card Sharks (which ironically is seen in the video right after Sale of the Century, so the two game shows Perry's most identified with are seen back-to-back).
oh monopoly did last past pilot. it went on for about a year, while Super Jeopardy was on, It was partnered with SJ. But i think that was in 1990, not 1989
However it wasn't the best idea for hosting. Merv should have told the guy...no, let Peter Tomarken do it as planned...ws Tomarken was wanting something else besides the Whammies.
I've been saying for a long time that the 80's was the best time for game shows. Kinda weird that you highlight 1989 though as that saw the cancelations of Sale of the Century, Super Password and Card Sharks. No other decade is gonna top the 80's as that was before the cringy talk show craze of the 90's. All you really could watch in the 90's was Wheel, Jeopardy or Price is Right. That variety was just gone by then. At least we also had this craze of million dollar game shows at the turn of the century, which was must see stuff with Millionaire, Greed and Twenty One.
Chuck Woolery was great at hosting Scrabble, but many people forget that he was the original host of Wheel of Fortune.
I enjoyed Lingo too. Chuck was my favorite host.

I remember watching The Price is Right, and I was fascinated by the big wheel. 😄
Sadly, I still am…

Perry was also commuting back and forth to Canada to host the longtime north of the border favorite “Definition.”

Correct. Monopoly aired Saturday nights on ABC during the summer of 1990, from June to September.

I'm going to get shot for this, JEAPORDY!??!?

Why limit it to 1989? There were lots of memorable game shows all throughout the decade!
Alice liddell madness returns
It’s “puzzle”.
Yeah, that video is a mess
