A lot of other covers kind of have this wide vocal range and people belt out the lyrics making it sound really happy and overly cinematic. This cover is timid and brimming with emotion, much like the vulnerability we feel when we fall in love with someone.
I totally agree with your assessment. Then again, there is the cover by Millie Tizzard, which is a bit more "musical", but still displays that vulnerability you mentioned, and does not overdo the performance.
