Last month I had someone sit down next to me on an airplane and start working on music on his laptop... He told me his name was Darren, and he was in a band called mutemath.
I'm a Lovely but I actually discovered this song a few years ago thanks to NHL 18. Still, it's pretty cool to know that Dan loves this song as much as I do.
Yep! Been listening to this since 2017! One of my favourite songs from Mutemath! Though their Odd Soul album will always be their best imo. Especially their song Allies
Hello Fire department?.. Yeah its Mutemath again.. Yeah they just released a new single.. Well you know the usual.. sexy drum grooves, ripping baselines, mind blowing synths and screaming guitar riffs.
What I'm used to listening to: Prince, Soul, R&B, hip-hop, rap, disco, house, dance, pop, martini lounge, rock and a little of everything else. I absolutely fucking LOVE this song! Honestly, I can't get enough of it!
I'd never heard MuteMath before today and this song randomly came on while I was letting my streaming app play DJ. I'd heard good things but never got around to listening. I was driving my car when this came on and I was just just like WHAT IS THIS!
Warms my heart to hear this incredible band from New Orleans venture deep into prog, with a sound and structure closer to classic Yes music than anything I've ever heard..
i recognize the motive of the song from the guitar center drum off they did. glad that groove finally became a song :) I want "Steal my thoughts" by Paul Meany to become a song as well
Heard this on Bill Burr's Thursday afternoon before Monday's morning podcast. This song is the shit. Awesome. Thought it was some 80's band. Checking these dudes out.
Love this song so much. I grew up playing NHL 18, and I immediately fell in love with it and so did my dad. Funny story, when he was listening to this song, and the song said "tie your self to me" he thought it said " Todd Yoseph to me". I laughed so hard
When it comes to Mute Math, I can't say one album is better than the other. Every album has a unique sound and always allows for a new experience. For me, it's more about which album is my favorite. Mine is the Self Titled album. That's the one I first heard and fell in love with immediately. Armistice, Odd Soul, Vitals, Changes, the live albums and now Play Dead are some of the greatest albums I've ever heard. No one comes close for me.
Bro I absolutely adored this band in elementary school and loved this song in Fifth grade. I listened to it when I played fortnite on its release in fifth grade and halo as well. It’s like when I listen to this song I’m brought back to 2017 in my easy elementary school life. No worries or anything. I still love this song and band. It’s honestly incredible how they weren’t recognized more. I don’t even know how they weren’t more popular. Too bad they broke up tho. They were truly incredible.
Odd Soul meets Vitals is all I've ever wanted in my ENTIRE LIFE. See you at the Crystal in October, MUTEMATH! Portland, don't let me down this time and DANCE WITH ME!
c'mon.. you guys must be huge right now. mutemath is such an underrated band. i hope u can be bigger than ever with the new coming album. love from Indonesia! :) hope u guys make a concert in here
I'm freaking heartbroken. I just now learned that Mutemath put this album out today and I loved their return to form after being slightly disappointed by the lack of percussion and groove in Vitals. And then I learned immediately afterward that Darren King had left back in August. Because this album was produced over a period of 5 years, this album is the final love letter to fans from the Mutemath that we all love - Paul, Roy and Darren. I fear it just won't be the same going forward.
I heard it and my mind was saying "I'veheardthisI'veheardthisI'veheardthisI'veheardthis" school down, there's my answer. Thank you. Now I have to watch the drum off again.
i want to put massive speakers on the tallest building in Seattle and play this song on repeat for the next week. So goddamn good!! Thank you, Guitar Center, for inviting the guys to play half a decade ago.
Tell me something, tell me anything, is there one thing, that could mean everything... gives me chills every time. Also gives me sort of a Supertramp vibe
*DANIEL, OF THE BANGSEX FAMILY HATH SENT ME HITHER.*
Dan from GameGrumps brought me here!

Who’s all here in 2024?! 🎉🎉🎉 For years, this has been such a good album, and will be for many more!
Yep! Been listening to this since 2017! One of my favourite songs from Mutemath! Though their Odd Soul album will always be their best imo. Especially their song Allies

Don't make us send someone out with the hose again!
You sir deserve a medal.
Late fan but I'm slowly learning Mutemath is incredible 😭 here thanks to Dan Avidan
Cheerio maria this ended up being my favorite out of the three he recommended. Clovers was a hard competitor though.
same.
Most underrated band of all time. “Play Dead” will always be their best album. Never gets old for me. Always share them with others! Lol.
Cheerio maria when did dan mention mutemath?
polygon head man it was on his IG on June 28th! he shouted out bands he was listening to
thanks danny
love that so many of the lovelies are in the comments because dan recommend it, and it is a damn good song
The bass drop followed by the synth at 0:57 is absolutely amazing. It's impossible to play this song without blasting it
Thank you Danny!
Dan always knows how to pick 'em!
Paul's vocals man.. each album his voice goes to new places i had no idea he could reach. SO GOOD.
What I'm used to listening to: Prince, Soul, R&B, hip-hop, rap, disco, house, dance, pop, martini lounge, rock and a little of everything else.
I absolutely fucking LOVE this song! Honestly, I can't get enough of it!
*starring off into space and drooling while partaking in this musical feast*
These guys are so consistent.
I've been listening to MuteMath for like.. 12 years and they've never made a bad song.. and don't get me started about their live performances.. :O
Jessie Perkins :]
@@jraybay👍
Jesus. Heard this on Bill Burrs podcast and I'm now in love with this band
This beat is from the drum off DK played in several years ago!!! So sweet to hear it come up again! Instant chills.
I was wondering if anyone else would recognise it, glad to hear it again.
This song rocks so hard. It's our summer jam, got my 8 yr. old in the backseat yelling "stuffed animals, I NEED IT!" :-)
Always great to hear a new Mutemath song.
Chris Marshall praise
WHAT?!? Don't you guys ever stop? Isn't Vitals still SUPER FRESH? WOW. I'm impressed
I'd never heard MuteMath before today and this song randomly came on while I was letting my streaming app play DJ. I'd heard good things but never got around to listening.
I was driving my car when this came on and I was just just like WHAT IS THIS!
Dan was right, this is an excellent song.
Warms my heart to hear this incredible band from New Orleans venture deep into prog, with a sound and structure closer to classic Yes music than anything I've ever heard..
Damn it mutemath. You've done it again. Replay button, let's go for a ride.
What's up Grumps!
The best song Mutemath has ever released, and that's saying a lot.
Richie Worrell noticed.
This and Stratosphere is neck and neck for me.
I just discovered this band from NHL 18 (this song) and I’m disappointed that I haven’t found another song like this one. Just love the riffiness.
Dude, I heard this on NHL 18, like I’m sure a ton of y’all did, and immediately had to go find this song. I could literally listen to this for days.
i recognize the motive of the song from the guitar center drum off they did. glad that groove finally became a song :) I want "Steal my thoughts" by Paul Meany to become a song as well
I swear I thought Paul was singing about cinnamon rolls for a second...... Thank goodness for the lyrics.
never clicked so fast. Nice use of that drum off solo from Darren
Best NHL 18 song
1:37 "STUFFED ANIMALS I NEED IT"
3:08 "Cinnamon roll!! ..i want it!" :)
OUTSTANDING. Just when you think MM can't get any better. Superb work!!!
Instant love ! and the artttt is so gooddd. The drums, amazing. Just, yes. A thousand times yes.

Top song NHL18 TOP TOP TOP👍👍👍👍👍

Danny Sexbang Says he approves of this ;)
Holy crap. I can't get enough of mutemath. Pure genius
This song is a beautiful fusion of techniques from as old as glam rock / hair metal to modern EDM production.
I was hooked in a single song.
Mutemath never gets old. The play dead album is a masterpiece. Don’t leave me sober!

Holy shit this is amazing, thanks Danny! (Dan avidan)
Who else didn't see 0:58 coming!? SHEEESH!
Far Shores I get so pumped every time anticipating it!
That part is great! It's a really solid song leading up, and then that part just takes it up a level.
This song is so good i feel the emotion not just in the vocals but in every note and chord. The care and talent in this is fucking amaizing.
this song has this rush sorta vibe don't you think? Love mutemath! they're innovatively awesome!
Absolutely fantastic -- can't wait for the rest of the new album!

Gah, this makes me so happy as a person who has watched the Guitar Center videos half a million times. And also glad to hear Darren again.

Thank you Ol' Billy No Fun!

Does this sound like Yes to anyone else? And very GOOD Yes, at that. Thank you, Bill Burr, you drummin' fool.
peabody nobis Omg....glad somebody else heard it.….I was afraid to say it.....
2 years after discovering this song on NHL 18 and it still kicks ass
True
I can not explain the incredible level to which this song amazes me.
This album is gonna rock. I'm so ready.
This song is definitely one of my favorites now. Amazing song. :)
S/O to the those who recognize the guitar center drum off groove.
I've been waiting for this for so long!
I was so hoping this would become a song of theirs! I LOVE that groove, so...Mutemath.
I heard it and my mind was saying "I'veheardthisI'veheardthisI'veheardthisI'veheardthis" school down, there's my answer. Thank you. Now I have to watch the drum off again.
Been waiting for this song to come out ever since.
Oh yeah!!
I'm just happy they're finally breaking their spell of releasing an album every 4ish years
i want to put massive speakers on the tallest building in Seattle and play this song on repeat for the next week. So goddamn good!! Thank you, Guitar Center, for inviting the guys to play half a decade ago.

Tell me something, tell me anything, is there one thing, that could mean everything... gives me chills every time. Also gives me sort of a Supertramp vibe
I didn't know Danny was a Mutemath fan. I am a HUGE fan of Mutemath and a big fan of Game Grumps. Never saw where Dan recommended them.
So glad I let my kid play NHL 18! The music is amazing!
I wish I had known about Mutemath years ago. Fantastic.
They really nailed it with this song!! I love it really sounds like a good mix of their first 4 albums with some Yes influences thrown in!
Following 10+ yrs. Agreed. Odd Soul and Vitals had a Bass Baby! My new summer jam. Can't wait for the full album! Love you guys. Never stop. Brother.
responsible for at least 100 of these plays. thank you mutemath for the jams, you guys are incredible to me
I remember seeing these guys back in 2011 right after Odd Soul came out. One of the best shows I've ever been to.
I don't think they're capable of making a bad song
I've always really wanted access to everything they've ever created for this reason.
I totally agree with that. Evan
i think their worst song is electrified but even that is still a pretty good song
For me it's "Safe if we don't look down". All the others are great. It's just my opinion. ;)
Evan Millett yes they do now drummer has left the band
I love Mutemath!! I need them to come to Mexico!
Darren showing off as usual on this track. Especially the breakdown. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Gets better every time I hear it... ammiright?
I've loved mutemath since I first heard their song on my blackberry haha
From Saint-Petersburg with love! Great song, thank you!
3:02 Darren King, ladies and gentlemen. The King of ghost notes.
Man, I really like the maturity in this noise!
