At the end of the video a text is mentioned: 'Filmé intégralement en caméra cachée', meaning that the whole video was filmed with a hidden camera. Great song, greetings from Belgium.

It was actually a very smart marketing strategy. The people who were filming him uploaded the videos on the internet with headlines "Stromae drunk on the streets of Bruxelles" and it went viral even before the release of the video. And the video is probably so cheap to film but so effective, And everyone were stunned after they found out he was pretending. He is such a genius.

He even made the news then! I remeber. Everybody thought he was losing it, that fame had gotten into his head. But no, he fooled everone in a creative way.

If you think about it, that kind of adds to the message he tries to convey. The music on it's own portrays someone who's extremely lonely after a breakup and who tries to cope with alcohol. The music video I feel portrays to how society reacts if that person is being a public nuisance. So it's a commentary about society too. Genious shit!!
Also even though he was popular at that point, this is also a commentary about artists having genuine mental issues (the people recording him). And he accomplished it by not writing a script, not having actors, but getting genuine reactions out of people. He is so incredibly powerful as a musician

@@TheTrueAltoClef Yes, this is also true. It's both brilliant marketing idea and a concept to make interesting video. For his song "Hell" he again chose interesting way to promote it. He did an interview for their morning news program where he actually at one point just started singing the song as it was part of the interview staring directly at the camera. Brilliant idea!

I love the way you're assembling every puzzle Stromae is putting in his songs. BTW, even in French the buildup of the whole story corresponds to the confused character state of mind and isn't easy to get at the beginning. His way with lyrics is properly formidable (I couldn't miss this one!) because he always adjusts their construction to suit perfectly to the different subjects of his songs. I really won't be surprised if one day he'll makes a movie with a solid story, killer dialogues and a stellar photography. Actually I'm somewhat impatient to watch it in a proper movie theater, and it's been more than 20 years I didn't go to watch a movie there.
I also appreciate your compassion, and you're right about it being more scarce these days.

Thank you for your intelligent comments. So refreshing. Stromae was actually nervous even the morning he made this. He knew it would cause some controversy but he did it anyway. It took 18 hours with hidden cameras all over the square, even on bikes. Truly amazing!

The fact is that here in Belgium, we leave the known people living without disturb them in the street, even our king was able to do some shopping in regular shops. As you see in this vidéo, the women help him to get of the railways tracks but she doen't take advantage to ask som autograph or something. I was Limo driver, I transported somes stars like M Jager, Fred Dust, Roger moore etc.. I've never seen any croud in front of they hotel or other. I even had to go to the Mcdo with *...* he didn't wants to eat in is hotel lol, only one persone dared to ask if he was *...* I said "no" and it was ok...

Just randomly seeing some RUclips videos and this popped up with me as I play a lot of Stromae's music. I like how lovely you react to him and how much you like him. This video was taped with a hidden camera in Brussels and yes he got reactions from random people in the streets. He was already quite famous at that time. Probably more famous still with the younger generations. This is again upbeat music added to a sad story. He indeed got dumped by his girlfriend in this one. I am Belgian, Dutch speaking but we learn quite some languages here, and French is obligatory already for 10 - 11 year olds as our second official language. I'm probably more into French speaking music than into English speaking in fact. There is a whole concert of him on RUclips from his album Racine Carrée (2013). You will find it easily. His first album is called Cheese (2010). He does a much talked about comeback with his newest single Santé and announced his new album for March 2022 together with the announcement of his new tour in Belgium and France. I love this "maestro" so much. Regards, Nathalie

Good reaction! The song is about him being dumping but the end of the relationship was because he couldn't have kid. There are some lyrics that make sense if you know in the song. It was really hard for him and his couple couldn't survive to that. I love how he speak really personal matter in his songs!

It's actually Verlan, a French slang where syllables are reversed. So Maestro becomes Stromae.

This video was a reaction to how some people came over to him after he had filled his car tank at a gas station and he was then eating or drinking something he had bought at the station in his car, just chilling, and these guys came over to him, recording him and quite frankly bullying him, saying he was a snob, he thought himself superior now that he was a celebrity so he had a nice car now, etc... Stromae remained very calm, polite and composed throughout this whole altercation but he came up with the video idea for Formidable following this incident :)

ahh okay, see i had no clue about this! I love how he takes real life events, that are relatable to so many people and puts them into music!! a lot of artists now a days will put things that they have, never done/gone through/dealt with, in their music, but it just doesn't feel the same bc they cant relate to it! but Since Stromae can relate to everything he does in his music you feel his music differently, i feel!! i hope that makes sense!! but i appreciate the comment and the info!! thank you!! much love!!

I thought you might enjoy this interview with Stromae in Canada when he was on tour with Racine Carrée. He is talking about his next album at one point and mentions being in a tour bus in Bolivia and the rhythm he discovered there. Which you can now hear on Sante, from his new CD "Multitude". Paul Van Haver thinks of Stromae as a project (his alta ego) and Paul Van Haver as himself, a truly humble guy. Anyway, there are many interviews with him in English as well as French and you can't help but love the guy.

The title also says (ceci n'est pas une lesson), this is not a lesson.
You have some very good reaction videos, like your work! Any chance of doing another Belgian band, Triggerfinger with "I follow rivers"? Take the 8 or 12 million view ones, it was the first time they played the song and it was live. The band usually do hard rock, but this was a cover. Obviously, the lyrics aren't as deep as Stromae, but there aren't that many artists who have songs like him.
