- Farai Mubaiwa, 2017 Queen's Young Leader for South Africa, is an intersectional African feminist, the founder of the Africa Matters Initiative and a change-maker. She talks about youth empowerment and motivates us to make an impact. If we are the ones we've been waiting for - are you still waiting? Farai Mubaiwa is an intersectional African feminist, the founder of the Africa Matters Initiative, a change-maker and an MSc Masters Student at King's College London. Africa Matters is a youth led organization that is dedicated to creating spaces for African expression and robust dialogue for Africa to matter to Africans.
Prior to pursuing her Masters in the Political Economy of Emerging Markets, Farai was an analyst for Deloitte South Africa Strategy and Operations Consulting.
She is passionate about youth development and woman empowerment. Farai is a 2017 Queen's Young Leader for South Africa and a South African ambassador for the One Young World Youth Summit. what i was trying to say is, a lot of Africans are starting to see the lies which robs our value which creats a feeling "they are better than us".
They created the lie to keep robbing what Africa has to offer.
Now we say enough is enough.

Amazing! Your future is so bright it burns the eyes... I am incredibly inspired after returning from a recent trip to Ghana & reconnecting with the land of my ancestors. I too am involved in empowerment on the continent & globally. I truly believe we need to start telling our own stories as Africans. With young people like you leading the charge to empowerment of our youth, Africa's future is very bright!

Don't limit change to just "young" folk. You need us "old" folk as well to create and sustain a movement. Africans cannot afford division of any kind if we want to get to our great future.

One person doesnt change a continent, and words help but are just not enough. In truth the country has to be moulded and will not happen over night more like 2 generations. Every body is looking for a quick fix. There isnt one
True there is no quick fix. For now though the talking and the freeing of the mind is a necessary thing to happen, it is part of the 2 or 3 generations long transformation. It starts here and it does start with us. We who see the value of Africa have a duty to help those who do not see it yet to also see it, because we need everyone to know where we are going so that we can move forward. So don't undermine the importance and relevance of any conversation you can have with anyone you can talk to to ensure they know that they are the ones to take Africa forward
From now on I will no longer call myself African American. I am an African.

What about your Nationality? Nationality, not continent affiliation, is of utmost importance regarding human rights worldwide. Check out the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Nakiso Madzivire, my question is related to Hello321’s comment. However, Nationality is paramount regarding International Law, and I’m finding out it’s deeper and more complicated than an individual’s country or nation state of birth. Consanguinity plays a major role.

UK US and other blacks from around the world need to return to our ancestral homes even if it cannot be traced to tribe we know the continent. Those dollars from Europe will build Africa as a whole, Africa possesses the worlds resources and agricultural needs.. if blacks from all over world came back to Africa using their dollar, built the continent and cut out every country they’d literally be left in the dark and starving, it’s actually what they fear so they paint a famine ridden poor picture to discourage it, when really those things happen in America.

This young woman is telling the truth, but , If your president is xyz has sign an agreement with xyz investors for the next 300 years, your ideas will just remain that, an idea . How are u going to implement it if you do not have access to the top? Look what is happening today in Zambia. Zambian mine workers are held for one month under horrible conditions , they are prohibited to go home in Zambia. Check the YT channel of Lily Mutamz. The youth in Africa should deal with their geronto leadership especially in sub Sahara Africa. So far Africa has enough educated people to make a positive start in the right direction. Look at the AU, they are conducting their work in a building built by the Chinese. Recently, it come to light that the building is infested with Chinese spyware. Instead of suggesting moving to another location, they are saying it (the spyware ) has been removed.
You can learn all you want, as long as the youth does not participate in the government and policy making for their future, nothing good can come out of it. They, African leaders, with an exception of Tanzania, Rwanda, Botswana, Mauritius, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Ghana and Namibia, are propagating the so-called agenda 2063 . Majority of them won't be there. Why not give the youth a chance to rule?

Poet June Jordan (junejordan.net) presented "Poem for South African women" at the United Nations on August 9, 1978. It was in commemoration of the 40,000 women and children who, on August 9, 1956, presented themselves in bodily protest against the 'dompas' in the capital of apartheid. The final line of her poem is: "we are the ones we have been waiting for" -- BUT -- it was italicized, so it may be much older than 1978. See also, Hopi Elder Thomas Banyacya Sr (1909-1999), his statement that begins, "You have been telling the people..."

This young lady is trapped in her own prejudices, believing in false data and blaming others. Maybe she is just too young to understand the truth and complexity of the world...

@@JabsMajozi well I am the son of an Indian immigrant who always believed in himself and the chances the world has offered, be it in India or Germany or UK. Now younger people often play the victim games instead of appreciating opportunities.
Sorry but you Sir, need to get your mind liberated. Shr is much wiser than you seem to be. If you dig deep a little into history, Colonisation history, slavery history, monarchy history, etc, u just might broaden your perspectives a little and grow up a little bit more to be wise like this woman. The thing is she knows better than you. You believe that older people know better than youngsters, well that ain't true, people who know more know better. Even in Christianity, knowledge doesn't always correlate with age, it correlates with one's honest relationship with God (as an example)
