@@AllanTidgwell That's nonsense. They absolutely 1000% knew how to efficiently disable warrior bugs long before Planet P. They would have known even before Klandathu. I mean come on dude, this is the Second Bug War, they have schoolchildren on earth dissecting workers, I think they've studied a few warriors before. It was a reminder, it was just also a part of the reel that was introducing the new information about brainbugs. It just so happens that NPH is now the one in charge of that area, for pretty obvious reasons. The actual point of that scene is just to show how all of the characters we have been following have now been fully indoctrinated and are part of the propaganda reels themselves. They've officially become a part of the machine.
@@AllanTidgwell That's not true. This was after the brain bug (which is the only real "new" information from that battle) capture on P, you think they haven't ever studied a warrior bug before? They've already fought the bugs for years, they definitely knew this information, the commercial was a reminder. The point of that scene was just to show us how our main characters have become a part of the reels themselves now, and NPH was the one involved in that kind of stuff by that point.
When I was in the Army, one of my buddies ALWAYS had perfect hair in the field. It didn't matter if he had been in the woods for two weeks, every time he took off his helmet, perfect hair. So I started calling him Johnny Rico.
That reminds me of when Casper Van Dien told a story that began with him picking up his son from school. He claimed that one of his son's friends literally said "You didn't tell us your Dad was Johnny Rico!" 😄
I’m a movie buff, the one who your friends ask “what was that movie about so and so that this guy was in who was also in X”…and I give the right answer (mostly)… so sometimes I find it amusing when Cassie doesn’t see some of the relationships between movies but I must admit, she’s improving quickly.
It was also used for the human soldiers (I can't remember what they were called by this point) in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy back in 1999. Fox got their money's worth on those costumes.
Those armor pieces are still showing up in some movies TODAY. Cool point number one about the armor is that Sony kept the molds from the movie due to lots of companies wanting quick and cost effective armor pieces, so Disney (yes, this is a Disney movie via Touchstone Pictures) and Sony (TriStar Pictures) had an agreement that Disney would get certain bits of the production for their archives, but Sony would get the actual molds used to make the weapons props and armor. Cool point 2 is that they were made out of a sealed foam that had some rubber impregnation that was extremely resilient against decay, so all you need to do is paint them in the colors and designs of your show, and they look good as new, and each piece, depending on usage, was good for 10 to 15 years. They were also very lightweight, like the helmet and armor together weighed about 20 lbs total, very easy for the average human to wear and not be fatigued. The only downside is that they don't breathe at all, so during the desert scenes (Planet P), you'll notice that for the non combat shots, the shots are very short and there's a lot of jump cuts in the editing, because after 10 minutes they were sweating so much their uniforms would be soaked.
They also got used in Power Rangers Space Force (forget actual series), the live action American made Gundam movie G-Savior. So many were made so they'll always pop up somewhere.
Hard to believe this is the same woman from years ago. She barely flinches anymore lol. (this is an ultra-violence film at that!) Next is her sister who is already starting to turn. One of us! One of us!
They filmed a kiss between Johnny and Carmen for the end of the movie, but test audiences hated it because they thought it was disrespectful to Dizzy. So they took it out. One of my favorite movies, glad you liked it!
@@HDreamer I prefer them being friends after that, with Rico and Carmen finding others "on their level" after realising they belong in completely different parts of the human "machine"
Cassie saying she actually enjoyed the movie and rhyming off Verhoeven's other movies just like that is pretty darn cool. Hat's off, Cassie - you have really grown as a movie viewer.
But the fact she didn't get the fascism thing kill's me. The meteor strike was either by the gov't or a natural occurrence, Zegema beach definitely the gov't (where the rich dissidents vacation). It's obvious from the distance that the bugs couldn't invade. That ship barely dodged the meteor that's going so slow it would have to have been launched 3 million years ago
Dizzy is actually hotter, and more desirable in just about every way. She's a wild one who pursues what she wants and doesn't play games. And boy, what a soldier. The chick was QB of the frickin' futuristic football team and nearly beat up the drill sargeant. What more could you want?
"This guy... has a punchable face" 😅 That's Jake Busey, son of Gary Busey. He's always a lot of fun when he pops up. Try Frighteners, with Michael J Fox, for one of Jake's better roles.
It's pretty obvious that Carmen was flirting with Zander. Notice how she is quite reserved about her relationship status when talking to him, and how her attitude completely switches when Johnny enters the picture, each time. Classic cheating behaviorisms. Also, it doesn't take her long at all to shack up with him after breaking up with Johnny via 90s Facetime. Whilst Dizzy was quite forward (maybe a bit TOO forward at times), I believe she knew that Carmen didn't like him for the right reasons, she clearly didn't love him and wasn't a good fit for him. Whether Dizzy got to be with him or not, she clearly always wanted to look out for him. I believe she did join the M.I. because she was pursuing him, but also because she wanted to help protect him. It's hardly an accident that people tend to prefer Dizzy over Carmen: She tells you the brutal truths you need to hear, she can kick back and have a bit of fun and she seems to actually have a deep emotional understanding and wears her heart on her sleeve. She's overall a more lively, interesting, and relatable human character than Carmen.
"Fresh meat for the Grinder" the recruiter said that to actively discourage people from signing up. In the book, Rico meets the recruiter later with full functional prothesis, living the life. They do everything they can to keep people away from service.
When I arrived in my younger brother's house years ago, he was in the mid of watching this movie. He then asked me to join him and he started the movie from the start because he tought I'd like it as mucn as he did. And I did enjoy it very much. He passed away last year. And you have brought some very sweet memories of him. Thanks, Cassey. ❤
Rue McClanahan (Blanche Devereaux from The Golden Girls) as the blind biology teacher is one of the most bizarrely random casting choices ever. 😂 She’s awesome as usual though.
What brought me here was a diagnoses of stage 4 liver failure a couple of years ago. Sorry, but I do not remember the movie, but it was late at night, and I didn't want to be alone, and your channel popped up and I watch it for comfort.
We used to quote this movie so much on deployment. To the extent that after the pre-patrol OPORD my platoon Sergeant would take a pause and ask….”Would you like to know more?”
The drill sergeant was the secret GOAT of the film. You could tell by his interactions with Rico and other soldiers that he really cared about them. I also love his subtle implication that he has taken his fair share of lashes as well.
@@YodatheHobbitmostly because they're weird unrealistic alien bugs without fur or more believable traits. Good luck trying to create actually animals with this CGI (the animals in jumanji were detailed but very fake looking)
I can't get over Michael Ironsides just dining non-stop on all of the scenery in every shot. Like Michael Caine in the Muppet Christmas Carol, he just played a ridiculous part 100% serious.
He’s so good. Every time he says, “they sucked his brains out” with that face & tone of voice, I always wonder how many takes he had to do to get that line out with a straight face🤣
@@menotyou8369 You're assuming the only possible enemy they will ever fight are the bugs? Replace "hand" with "pincer", etc., and the analogy still works.
The omgosh count was definitely above average for her today, but I think finally she's somewhat desensitized to special effects dealing with violence and gore. If she watched this 2 years ago, I doubt she would've finished it 😂
'97 was an exciting year for action and/or sci-fi films: Starship Troopers, Fifth Element, Face/Off, Con Air, Air Force One, Men in Black, Contact, Gattaca, Conspiracy Theory, Tomorrow Never Dies, etc... It was also the same year that Titanic came out, hence CGI quality by that point was mainly a matter of how long was given to the artists to work on the project.
@@mortenareskjold9006 it is absolutely insane reading all of those classics back to back and then comparing them to anything released in the last 5 years.
She’s come a long way, but I’m still wondering which movie will be her record use of “Oh my Gosh!” Haha.. I thought Deadpool would get it but was wrong.
I've been watching about, maybe, two years. I couldn't tell you which movie brought me in, but I stayed because I found your sweet demeanor and positive attitude refreshing. I spent so much time in the muck arguing and fighting with people online, I almost forgot what it was like to see _nice_ people on here.
Great sci-fi writer, a lot of his books are great reads and very playful. Starship Troopers is a bit of an outlier as other books of his are very much against the idea of a big government. I think Heinlein was a bit confused as to what he wanted! As a left-wing Brit liberal I actually unironically love his books. 'Farmer in the Sky' and 'The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress' are two of my favourites, the first dealing with a family being early pioneer colonists on one of Jupiter's moons, the second a novel about a lunar colony fighting a war of independence from Earth - helped by a friendly AI!
@@PeterEvansPeteTakesPictures His first book I remember reading was "Door Into Summer" . Some people credit him with coming up with the idea of computer aided crafting of CAD when he mentioned Drafting Dan.
@@StanleyKubick1 Lmao, no it's not. This was the 90's, kid. It was just a fun movie about killing bugs in the future. Believe it or not there was a time when entertainment and politics were separated.
“High school? I thought they were in college; they look /so/ old.” Welcome to 90s movies and shows where 30 y/o’s were cast as high schoolers in movies and shows 😂 (I know, I know it wasn’t just then)
There are so many extra laws involved when working with minors (not for any gross reasons, more hings like mandatory extra rest periods etc) that casting directors would get people wildly over age just to be safe. Sometimes if your actors were very fresh-faced it worked, but you can usually tell.
They still are. My daughter made me watch her favorite show, The Vampire Diaries. I always pointed out when “high school students” had wrinkles. Drove her crazy! 😂
Cassie has turned to the dark side, we just need Carly to watch more of these less wholesome movies. She seemed to enjoy Deadpool despite being shocked by it so there's some hope. 😈😆
32:18: "...when they were...ee-er ee-er." OH GAWD, that was funny, Cassie! I know you weren't trying to be funny, but that was about as wholesome as one could put it. I love this channel.
Almost four years ago, I was looking online for some video clips of "1917" when I came across your reaction to it. I thought to myself, "Watching someone watch a movie is weird." After a couple of hours of watching clips of my favorite movie scenes, I came back to your reaction and decided to give it a chance. Since then, I've been hooked on watching reactors watch movies, because it feels like I'm watching them with someone who shares my tastes in film, plus it's a lot of fun to see how people react to movies for the first time.
The movie that brought me here was "The Hunt for Red October." I wanted to watch the film, but I realized I didn't have enough time before I had to leave the house. So I thought, "Oh. I'll just watch a condensed version." None of my regular reactors had covered that particular film, so I went looking. And my search lead me to you. And I have since binged almost all of the Star Trek content. (Which was a lot of fun!)
"How long have you been watching?" A couple months. "What was the movie that brought you here?" I honestly don't remember. After watching that first video, I binged. " What made you stay?" You. You're fun to watch movies with. 😊
I love how Denise Richard’s character had a 14 inch spike through shoulder blade almost near the heart but is able to walk with her arms around Doogie and Casper shoulders.
In the 80s and 90s, shoulder injuries were like paper cuts. Whether it was John McClane getting shot in Die Hard or Princess Leia getting shot in Return of the Jedi, it only affected them for that one scene and then they had full range of movement for the rest of the movie. In modern movies it's now characters like John Wick or Thor being stabbed in the gut and still having no problem fighting enemies later.
Everybody in this movie is either killed outright, or virtually invincible. They take horrendous injuries in the same way that most people bang their elbow on a door.
The scene where the girl shoots the other recruit in the head? Those two first met on this movie set and got married after, they're still together. "Kids, let me tell you how I met your mother, she shot me in the head and it was love at first sight"
Cassie, thanks for watching this one. With Alien(s), Predator, The Thing, Robocop, Total Recall and Starship Troopers under your belt, you are definitely one of us now. Fun facts: All of Paul Verhoeven's movies had to be edited for violence in order to receive an "R" rating. The reason that the CGI looks so good for the spaceship scenes is because most of them are REAL models. They made an 18 foot long model of the Rodger Young along with similarly scaled drop ships and fighters.
The Roger Young hero model has 5 R2-D2 figures on its exterior. There's a fun short documentary showcasing the miniatures and models for the movie. The detail in the ship cut in half is unbelievable. They put in serious work on it. Even the asteroid that hits them was a model.
12:06 Yeah, Rico's math grades were very poor. Consistent with Heinlein's novel, where Rico actually gets math tutoring from the CO of the ship herself when she decides he has officer potential. In the novel Rico's dad survived Buenos Aires and enlisted himself, and actuslly replaces Johnny in his unit when Johnny leaves it to go to Officer School.
20:15 TRIVIA NOTE, The LT telling the troopers to "kill anything with more than two legs, YOU GET ME!?" is Stephen Ford. Mr Ford was also the 4 star USAF general who called for the A-10 "Strike Package Bravo" response during the desert attack in the first TRANSFORMERS movie. He also had a small part in CONTACT as one of the candidates who decided to drop out of the consideration for the Machine Seat. Stephen Ford is the youngest son of 38th US President Gerald R. Ford.
"The effects look really good for 1997!" They actually used to show this (or parts of this) in electronics stores to show off DVD players and big screen TVs. The Rodger Young launch got a lot of play. The Fifth Element did as well, actually.
I've been watching sci-fi (good and lots of bad) for decades - the destruction of the Rodger Young is still gorgeous special effects eye candy, even 27 years later.
The CGI in Starship Troopers looks so good for its time because it is mostly used for in tandem with, and for enhancing actual physical models, much like they did in Jurassic Park. Rodger Young had an entire model built for it. Even some of the scenes ships burning were made with actual pyrotechnics. Closeup shots of the bugs are done with animatronics, and so on.
Saw it in theater first and the detail on the split ship was great with bodies falling into space and the fire hugging the decks as the remaining air would be there.
Yeah, that scene was so much better than other shows, even today, showing a ship getting blown apart. Usually you just get a bright flash and suddenly there is nothing left but a few small chunks.
Hi Cassie, I've been following your channel for roughly 7 months. The first reaction I can remember watching is "Rocky" and the reason why I subscribed and keep watching your reactions is because, in my opinion, you're the best, most authentic, nicest and most empathetic reactor of movies. It's that simple ;)
@@axelfoley133 I mean, as kids we said the same thing about 40's and 50's movies. The 90's are as far away from now as the 50s were when I was a kid. Or, put another way, if you were born in 1990, you were closer to the moon landing than to today....by 13 years. My birthday was closer to WW2 than to today and I don't even have kids.
Fun fact: The shower scene where they were all naked, the actors didn't feel comfortable about doing that scene. They said they would only do it if the director of that scene was also naked. So, the director of that particular scene was naked too. Oh, and How did you not recognize Denise Richards? 😆
I read the story in Premiere magazine many decades ago which was slightly different. At first none of the actors wanted to strip and Verhoven got so upset with them that he stripped off his pants and underwear, completely exposing himself to everyone, and basically just said "if I can do it, so can you". Then everyone finally got undressed.
The uniforms that the soldiers wear in this movie are the same ones that the Aliance use in Firefly. They just painted them purple for Firefly. "Come on you apes you want to live forever?" Is taken from an American Marine Dan Daly, one of only two Marines to win the Medal of Honor twice. In World War 1 he led a charge against the Germans. He walked out in between the American and German lines, looked over to the German side, then looked back at his men and yelled, "Come on you sons of b*tches! Do you want to live forever?" And then started running straight at the Germans. His men followed quickly after catching the Germans completely off guard. It was due to the hyper aggression showed by the US Marines during that battle that the Germans started to refer to them as the "teuful hunden" which translates to "The Devil Dogs." The nickname has stuck with the Marine Corps.
In the german version he asks "you dogs" if they want to live forever. "Hunde wollt ihr ewig leben" (Do you dogs want to live forever) is a pretty old phrase in german, its roots are traced to Frederick the Great in 1757, but I am sure some variant has been used since Humans started doing war. And as an aside, there is no evidence that the germans ever called the Marines that, it's not even proper german and sounds more like someone found a german dictionary and tried to literally translate "Devil Dogs" from english to german. If that's not enough "Teufelshund" (Devil dog) isn't a commonly used word to begin with, instead a german would have more likely used "Höllenhund" (hell hound) or "Teufelskerl" (roughly equivalent to hotshot/mad man/daredevil). So likely a Propaganda story the Marines invented to boost recruitment.
In the books, the line "Come on you apes you want to live forever?" is also used, and in the same context. Rico says that the story goes that the line is attributed to soldier (possibly from Dan Daly, as you mentioned, I don't remember), but that he, Rico, thinks that this saying is probably much older. He adds that he imagines a Roman Centurion shouting it at legionaires as they attack some enemy.
I've been watching over 3 years, right from near the start. Saving Private Ryan was your first video I watched, just because I was trying to watch some clips from it and your video came up. I hate reactions videos and normally avoid them, but you just have a warmth and authenticity that's just utterly endearing. Even if several years of brutal movies have hardened you to the horrors xD, you're still the same and I can't stop coming back. Thank you for being you, and not trying to be something else
- Myself, I am also a big Popcorn in Bed fan, but I don't hate reaction channels. Agreed that there are a LOT of bad, annoying or just uninteresting reaction channels, many of them do not do a good job, but there are a few I really like, Cassie is one who does a great job. If you are open to another reaction channel that is done very well, and always enjoyable to watch, I recommend you check out Alex Hefner's TV & Movie Vault - he is a genuine pleasure to watch, always enjoyable.
So, this came out when I was a freshman in highschool. Parents went out of town, my grandma said if i completed my homework on the computer on Friday since they didnt have one she'd take me to see this. I don't think she ever really forgave me. Loved your reaction throughout the movie
I've been watching the channel for maybe a year now. I discovered you through LotR Reactions. I stayed because I like having a place where someone just experiences media without being cynical.
Cassie: *"It looks like all the private parts all rolled into one. Is that on purpose???"* - I waited an hour to hear how she'd describe it. Did NOT disappoint 😂😂😂
I have been watching from the jump. What movie, all of them. I am a lifelong movie fan and enjoy vicariously viewing these classics for the first time through you. I think I speak for everyone in that you make us stay. Positive, upbeat, honest and genuine. It’s refreshing.
When I see the name of John Rico on the casualty list, it reminds me of a buddy in the Army who I thought had died in Iraq. Some people have similar names, but I heard from him later. Every name has a story and a family behind it, whether I knew them or not.
Actually, it didn't do very well at the box office. Grossing only $54.8 million domestically and $66.4 million internationally. Among 1997 releases, it reportedly ranked 35th in North America (including its 1998 grosses) even below Spawn. Many say that this is partly due to bad worth-of-mouth b/c most critics & audiences didn't recognize the film's satirical elements.
Yeah, this movie was special and I was very enthusiastic/excited about it too. A lot of action and special moments. It made you somehow wanting to be a trooper yourself however the chance of being slashed and ripped to pieces by a giant bug was very very high, lol.
All good satire works on a couple levels. It has to be a solid story on a standalone level. And this is a solid action scifi film. And it has to use that story to make the point of the other layer. Which is why satire is so frequently extremely in your face obvious and over the top. It gets taken to such an extreme that you can't ignore how bad the thing actually is.
I’m floored by how few times you flinch or get shocked now. It’s like you are anticipating what’s going to happen now and you know it’s not real, but it’s there for you to get an idea of what they’re trying to get across.
I've been following your channel for 3 years Cassie. It was Band of Brothers that got me hooked. The reason is you! You are just a lovely person and a pleasure to watch stuff with. And your amazing level of tact and respect when watching Band of Brothers was very touching. I also love how you go outside of your comfort zone. Keep up the great work! And Carly of course!
"This is no joke." If you recall, earlier in the film, Rico's dad said something like "I'd rather get 10 lashes in the public square than..." This now suggests that he may have been speaking literally.
He meant it literally, i.e., he knows that ten lashes in the public square is an actual dispensed punishment. I think he was still being figurative in his claim that he'd rather endure it than violate some principle.
Rue McClanahan from Golden Girls fame playing a blind science teacher has to be the most WTF casting decision ever. I wasn't crazy about Dizz at first. She tried to get with Johnny while he was with Carmen and then she transferred to his training facility. But she proved herself and should have been squad leader the first time and after Johnny was relieved. Her death broke me.
The thing that brought me to this channel is that the two of you are very wholesome, and innocent, and willing to step outside your comfort zone. This movie is BRUTAL!!!!! Enjoy :)
I remember watching this at the cinema when I was 15. Just me and 2 other friends. It had been out for one week and there was only about 7 or 8 other people in the cinema watching this. Its a very unique movie and always knew even back then people will still be watching this move 30 years later. Some think this is a dumb movie when infact its actually a very clever movie. A lot of underline themes and satire which make sense in today's world.
Did you get the proper book themes or Verhoevens misconstrued views on the story? Verhoeven thought it was about fascism but it's more anti-comunists/anti-fascism in nature. For one, fascism is an authoritarian state but the federation is actually a Republic because while it does have a restrictive voting system, it does allow people to vote who gets into power and is actually based on ancient democracies of the past like the Romans and the Greeks and this was what the true writer wanted to spread in his story, this style of governance over our current and socialist styles. It was about individualism vs collectivism and the bugs were communists.
It's not really a clever movie, you only really come away thinking "this movie is against fascism" if you know that Verhoeven intended to make an anti-fascist film. If you take it prima facie everyone is heroic (outside of the general), the bugs are an existential threat, the federation is both parts effective and self regulating, so it's very difficult to see where fascism is wrong. A lot of the apparent nuances that people assert (trials are unfair, the federation triggered the bug attacks, the federation let the asteroids through) have no indication in the movie and are pure conjecture by people trying to justify Verhoeven;s inadequacies. The movie makes it clear that the fascist state didn't strike first, the fascist state doesn't compel by force to serve in the military, the fascist chief commander stepped down voluntarily, the fascist state is inclusive and progressive in race and gender, the fascist state acknowledges that it made mistakes in the war. In fact it comes across that the federation isn't really fascist. It is a really fun film, and it is very well made, but it's not particularly clever.
A masterclass in world building without excess exposition. Everything informs you about the world without beating you over the head with it. The casual phrase "I'd rather take 10 lashes in the public square" tells you all you need to know about this society
Yeah, his son's station is so good that he feels federal service would waste his son's life and ruin his business legacy. In his father's mind, it's better to take ten lashes in public than volunteer for service. The rich business elite have it so good they don't want to roll in the muck with the rest of us.
Ive been watching your reactions for a while but I watch a lot of different reaction channels. The reason why yours is the best is that you know how to edit. I can watch you react to movies ive never seen before and I can follow what is happening in the movie. Some reaction channels only show the parts of the movie they react to and I have no idea what the movie is about. I also like when reactors give their brief insights and perspectives and when commentary helps fill in the gaps of parts that are not shown. And the more emotion the better. Sometimes I watch several different reaction channels watch my favourite movies just to see if their genuine reactions are the same as how I felt in particular scenes. If there is a match I tend to like them more. Some channels laugh and talk too much and the volume of their voices are way higher than the movie. Those are the worst especially if they have annoying laughs. Yours are just right 😊
“It’s a Wonderful Life” brought me here! I was alone for the holidays and your channel has meant so much to me! I’ve gone back and watched them all. Thank you for being you and everything you do! ❤️🍿
Fun Fact: The "helmet-off" cadet who got killed during training and the female cadet who accidentally shot him are married in real life. They met on set and have been together for 25 years. Also, the satire in this movie was so on point that some people actually thought it was a fascist film.
The revisionism about this movie is crazy. I was there when it came out. The only noteworthy thing about this movie when it came out was that it had really good CGI for the time, and otherwise was an intentionally cheesy action movie.
@@JWar-people who didn’t get it thought it was a cheesy action movie. I was in high school, I did as well. It’s a brilliant satire of fascism. No one asks “why did the bugs attack?” DER because we attacked them first and invaded THEIR worlds.

To answer your questions: "How long have you been watching the channel?": I think I discovered your channel in about May of this year 2024 "What movie did you first watch with me?": Mad Max: Fury Road. "What made you stay?": Great question. I've always kind of liked reaction videos to sci fi pop culture moments, and I couldn't quite put my finger on why till now: There's something intensely satisfying about experiencing a movie of a genre I like from the lens of someone who appears so wholesome with such a positive affect. It really feels like watching a movie with a friend, who I genuinely hope enjoys or is affected emotionally to a powerful piece of fiction in the same way I am. And your general positivity is simply so relaxing and refreshing in a world that seems increasingly opposite. I'm a popcorn kernal for life, I guess!

I don't remember which review was my first, but I think it's been over a year. What keeps me coming back is your reactions. As others have pointed out, the film is a satire; the book has the same basic plot but was very different.
The 90s are farther from now than the moon landing was from the 90s. If you thought 1969 was a long time ago, then those under 30 should be shocked the 90's look good.
@@MrBrock314 - Compare any period in the past century to 25 years earlier and the technological jumps over a quarter century have always been phenomenal. But it's only in the past 20 years or so that the youngest adults have collectively been so contemptuous of previous technology. @@CYB3R2K I disagree. I love the made movie but the book has too many good ideas and scenes not to be exposed to a modern film audience. The book breaks so many of the current movie tropes and if you just renamed it "The Forever War" it could be a far more interesting serious drama movie rather than the existing action movie.
Hi there from Germany! Great reaction video, as always! To answer your questions, I've been returning to your channel for a couple of weeks now. I had discovered it just recently and the reason why I keep watching is that nobody around me reacts to movies in the way you do, which makes watching movies with others way less entertaining. Fun fact: the armor used for the soldiers got re-purposed into the uniforms of the Alliance soldiers in Firefly.
It was also used for the human soldiers (I can't remember what they were called by this point) in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy back in 1999. Fox got their money's worth on those costumes.
Firefly ❤
Y’all remember them in Tim Burton’s planet of the apes?

A world full of Carmens? Now that's a movie I'd definitely watch, for science of course.
She's overall a more lively, interesting, and relatable human character than Carmen.

the original story was written by a graduate of the US Naval Academy. Robert Heinlein, one of the writers of the golden age of science fiction.
The Amiga Toaster is strong in the movie
Those old school visual effects are truly masterpieces.
Certainty and time. The VFX guys knew what was wanted and had time to get it right. That's why it holds up.

Most overused props in Science Fiction
In the Highlander movie they use the music from Queen "Who Wants To Live Forever", so I'm always hear Freddie singing it if someone uses this quote.
Power Rangers Lost Galaxy also uses the soldiers' armor/uniforms.
More or less what I've just posted - BEFORE I saw your comment. 👌
"Who is that girl?!"
Carmen is played by Denise Richards, who is a Bond girl in World Is Not Enough (one of the Brosnans you skipped)
Charlie Sheen's ex-wife.
She was also in Wild Things, co-starring Kevin Bacon.
And also White She Devil in "Undercover Brother".
She was in Tammy and The T-Rex. A classic.
@@w1975b Wild Things was a very special time in my youth. I've never seen the movie, but I have very fond memories of it. lol
This movie holds up so well and contains yet another amazing score by Basil Poledouris RIP
Is that on purpose???"*
- I waited an hour to hear how she'd describe it. Did NOT disappoint 😂😂😂
hahahha
I have been watching from the jump. What movie, all of them. I am a lifelong movie fan and enjoy vicariously viewing these classics for the first time through you. I think I speak for everyone in that you make us stay. Positive, upbeat, honest and genuine. It’s refreshing.
11:14 Editor missed one, Cassie. 😆
Or two 😁
@@Daveyboy100880 lawwwlz
Maybe he *didn't* miss it at all...
I wouldn't say I've been "missing it" Bob.....
When I see the name of John Rico on the casualty list, it reminds me of a buddy in the Army who I thought had died in Iraq. Some people have similar names, but I heard from him later.
Every name has a story and a family behind it, whether I knew them or not.
The juxtaposition of Mazzy Star ("Fade Into You") playing during the barfight always gets me. Brilliant music choice.
In 1997 this movie was the cultural zeitgeist for a moment. I swear everyone was talking about it. Certainly a deeper movie than one would expect.
@@mycroft16 Apparently, it wasn't so obvious to many critics and audiences because a lot of people thought that this film wasn't a satire at all.
@vacion610 I know. Same thing happened with An Indecent Proposal. Satire has a tendency to sail right over a lot of people's heads.
We used to call this Starship Troopers 90210.
That...THAT...is not entirely inaccurate. I can see that.
I’m floored by how few times you flinch or get shocked now. It’s like you are anticipating what’s going to happen now and you know it’s not real, but it’s there for you to get an idea of what they’re trying to get across.
Probably because she knew what she was going into. "Blind" reactions aren't really blind. Just saying.^^
“It looks like all the private parts rolled into one. Is that on purpose?” 🤣🤣🤣
For years I have been watching this channel, I found you because Rocky, that movie keeps given and given beatiful things in my life
"Make it 20 minutes". EPIC AND LEGENDARY.
The thing that brought me to this channel is that the two of you are very wholesome, and innocent, and willing to step outside your comfort zone. This movie is BRUTAL!!!!! Enjoy :)
Simp.
No way!!! FR?
Most guys just see it as an awesome action movie.
The revisionism about this movie is crazy. I was there when it came out. The only noteworthy thing about this movie when it came out was that it had really good CGI for the time, and otherwise was an intentionally cheesy action movie.
Speaking of helmets, they were reused for Firefly.
@@JWar-people who didn’t get it thought it was a cheesy action movie. I was in high school, I did as well. It’s a brilliant satire of fascism. No one asks “why did the bugs attack?” DER because we attacked them first and invaded THEIR worlds.
"This seems better than infantry." That's why I served 20 years in the Air Force. The DOD pay scale is the same for all branches but the quality of life is way different.
I met the editor on this movie, held the model ships they are flying around in. They were just stuck in their bedroom closet in a box back in the day.
My older sister recorded Starship Troopers off the telly when I was a lad in the early 2000s, she almost didn't let me watch it but glad she did lol
Forever Diz. Love this movie. Its nothing like the book but very enjoyable.
To answer your questions:
"How long have you been watching the channel?": I think I discovered your channel in about May of this year 2024
"What movie did you first watch with me?": Mad Max: Fury Road.
"What made you stay?": Great question. I've always kind of liked reaction videos to sci fi pop culture moments, and I couldn't quite put my finger on why till now:
There's something intensely satisfying about experiencing a movie of a genre I like from the lens of someone who appears so wholesome with such a positive affect.
Great Reaction! Starship Troopers is one of the coolest movies i've ever seen. I've been watching your channel since almost three years. The movie that bring me here was "Jaws" and i think i like how you put yourself in some movie situations while you're watching them, that's why i'm staying here. Regards from Chile 🇨🇱
I don't remember which review was my first, but I think it's been over a year. What keeps me coming back is your reactions.
As others have pointed out, the film is a satire; the book has the same basic plot but was very different.
I always get a kick when reactors are astonished that a movie could look good "way back in the 90s!" like it was the Middle Ages.
some CGI from late 90s looks better than CGI from a few years ago
The 90s are farther from now than the moon landing was from the 90s. If you thought 1969 was a long time ago, then those under 30 should be shocked the 90's look good.
@@MrBrock314 - Compare any period in the past century to 25 years earlier and the technological jumps over a quarter century have always been phenomenal. But it's only in the past 20 years or so that the youngest adults have collectively been so contemptuous of previous technology. Interesting you should bring up the moon landings, something the past two generations have been unable to do.
This is a powerful movie. It did not follow the book. But it’s very relevant even today. It has a great young cast. Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Brenda Strong and other incredible actors. I found this channel in my algorithm because I watch another channel that does first watch reactions. Then I checked the content, and I saw so many great sports movies and now I am a dedicated subscriber. I binge watched a lot of your videos during July.
The book was so good. The best part in the book IMO was the Court-marital. Pity there wasn't a remake a version that did follow the book which most of it is about the training rather than the fighting of solders.
The book is amazing also the precursor to the 40k space marine.
@@TheEvilJadeBelieve me, this was the right call. Also if they did a movie more "book accurate" it would be lambasted for not being like the now iconic Verhoeven movie.
I found the book a slog, and the straight-faced libertarianism was pretty silly…
You, in turn, seem so open-minded, authentic and receptive when watching.
Please keep putting out these movie reactions, they are so fun! Also, please never let any negative comments get to you. I think you are doing great and so do 416k subs, we can't all be wrong!
Greetings to Canada, until next time!
