I agree as for me. The solution that I came up with is this ,1 master volume and 1 master tone. I eliminated the volume knob position, utilize the lower two knobs and made them the master vol and tone. The switch I replaced with a heavy spring 5 way which takes a little effort to move. If you don’t know how too soldier you should learn it’s fun!
Same here. I love my SGs, and they are so 'easy' to play. I just got a strat and I like it a lot but worried it may not work out. I may commit to it and do the mod to replace the middle tone knob with the volume knob and hope it becomes more playable.
The solution is to get rid of the second tone knob, and move the other two down one... so master vol + master tone. Fill the unused top hole with a hole plug from any hardware store, or get a custom pickguard from warmoth for $30. The slide switch I actually think is ok, but I changed the 5-way on my Strat to a 3-way, which is less finicky and easy to accidentally change. I don't like positions 2 and 4.
I totally agree. I get rid of the volume in personally I just use one volume knob at the bottom with some capacitors wired into the system to kinda knock off some of the high-end I don’t even see the point of having having a volume there unless you’re doing the volume swells, which frankly I think are kind of old-fashioned and tired I don’t, but I don’t bother with that. Use the pedal if I really wanted to be doing that because I don’t know I don’t like the knob. I saw steve howe do this years ago so i knew it wasn’t uncool but i had never thought of it before i saw him do it. It’s really not necessary. I just wish everybody would customize a knob layout to what they want and not worry so much about their precious Stratocaster of which there’s at least 50 million of them out there.
One strat i have, i buried the pots below the pickguard, and altered the knobs, 2 others i buried just the volume pots , you just make a sub plate and use spacers to drop the shafts level with the pick guard

Agreed. It's what you learned on. Being a Les Paul player. I've never gotten over that knob placement on the Strat.
Same, I just decided to delete that volume pot and rewired it for a master volume and tone on the bottom two pots
I am a SG player, and I absolutely hate the way Fender put the knobs on the guitar.

Man that's so true that volumen knob it's so bad
What i do, Is that i get rid of that volumen knob and use instead a máster volumen and máster tone
